I work in a school im not a teacher but am the librarian. I know its hard to be a teacher at times but one class the teacher seemd like he was dumping his students on me and going off to play sport.
They were a bit difficult to handle and I didnt know if I did the right thing I felt a bit drained afterward, one boy i had to send out and they started acting up. I read them a story and tried to get them settled. Anyway I told the DP and she said it wasnt right for him To do that and other teachers were like we would not just leave you to take our classes. They might leave to go out for a bit but they always would come back in about five minutes not the whole time.

After he got told off by the management he apolgised and said he would try to be a better teacher. I feel a bit bad for reporting him but, otherwise, he would just take advantage. He seems very dismissive about his class and sometimes I just dont like the way he is quite cynical about them. He had a reliever in the otherday and she asked about a book to recommend to read out loud...I recommended the Paradise Garden which had been meaning to read to this class for a while. I know they cant handle long chapter books their own teacher reads cos they have short attention spans. Well she came back to me and said THEY LOVED IT.

So thank you Lord for showing me that book cos Id been praying what to read them out loud for a while.

Anyway to cut a long story short this class is one of the toughest in the school only because its the most rowdy and senior and most of them may come from broken homes, ive seen a toughness to them even the girls are like I dont care..and their teacher doesnt think they will amount to anything but they are just emotionally immature and maybe havent had the nurture in Their younger years that others take for granted. They only have one or two more years left of primary. So please Lord dont lose these children to Satan I give them to you and equip their teacher to inspire them. Hes only one of two male teachers in the entire school.

Hey Lanolin. Sounds like the teacher has given up and lost interest. No wonder the kids are playing up!
One of my best friends is a support teacher, and she has alot to deal with in a high pressurised environment.
You did the right thing reporting him. It isn't a librarian's job to handle all of those kids. The teacher is also legally responsible for them when they are under his care to. If he had just gone to the loo or something, that would be OK, but he should have kept you informed at least if he was going to be away for a while. Maybe he just went outside to have a cigarette, or just needed a break. Perhaps he's feeling stressed and overwhelmed?
It's true that kids need love - didn't Jesus say love conquers everything? (I'm no Bible expert). But kids also need a wee bit of discipline and structure. It's sad to hear that the teacher probably thinks they are not worth working hard to educate. Kids know alot more than we give them credit for, and pick up on alot of non-verbal cues, as well as stuff that is said to them (even if it's said jokingly); kids can take things the wrong way to.
All kids have their own special gifts. My friend says that it's a teacher's job to bring out those gifts to the fore, and guide pupils in the right direction.
At least the teacher apologised to you - maybe that is what he needed, for someone to start disciplining him!
My prayer:
May our loving, heavenly Father help all those kids who are a bit neglected, lost and who have no-one to take an interest in them, to thrive and learn in a healthy environment. May He inspire the teacher to seek help if he is feeling overwhelmed, and to guide his teaching practices so that the children learn more in a positive & healthy way. Amen.
Maybe the teacher needs a bit of kindness and attention to!
