This Corona virus pandemic could be the weapon that takes our liberties away , all in the name of saving lives?

I think that by and large the only real variation in Ontario hospitals is due to location...those in large urban centres like Ottawa, Toronto, Hamilton etc...that they're going to be seeing more cases. The funding is all coming from the same place, government, and our hospitals often run at...

The Predicted Coronavirus Catastrophe Hasn’t Arrived In Sweden. What’s Next? -Forbes-

Most of the people dying in Canadian LTC's had health challenges before too....overwhelmingly.

This Corona virus pandemic could be the weapon that takes our liberties away , all in the name of saving lives?

Our hospitals are governement funded....whether someone is diagnosed with a cold/flu/covid it doesn't matter.....the hospital isn't trying to turn a profit.

This Corona virus pandemic could be the weapon that takes our liberties away , all in the name of saving lives?

For the most part I'm trusting Canada's numbers, our health care system is publicly funded so there's no incentive to boost or under report in my opinion. I'm not saying the numbers are perfect, but I'm trusting the reporting for the most part. In the United States the medicare system is...

This Corona virus pandemic could be the weapon that takes our liberties away , all in the name of saving lives?

I did find a source, not for .2 but an equally low .4......Jason Kenny Premier of Alberta is quoted now as saying that the mortality rate for those under 65 is .006 Here's the link to the CDC .4% news, this is from an NBC affiliate...

Do you have a link for that .2% mortality rate? I've been thinking for a while that at most its .5....TIA

    Necessary?

I did not say completely benign, just mostly. Over 99% of those who get it are recovering. It's hard to get an exact handle on it because there are so many people walking around infected who don't even know they have it because its not making them sick. Testing levels are still so low in most...

The Predicted Coronavirus Catastrophe Hasn’t Arrived In Sweden. What’s Next? -Forbes-

While we have numbers for Covid related deaths, such as they are....I have little doubt there is both over and under reporting going on among various jurisdictions, but at least we have some benchmarks. But I don't see any reports on things like domestic abuse or violence, or suicides. On...

The Predicted Coronavirus Catastrophe Hasn’t Arrived In Sweden. What’s Next? -Forbes-

Thanks, I saw it in a new story already. Tengall (I think that's how its spelled) Sweden's top epidemiologist and architect of their response has never said that herd immunity was the goal of their strategy, although he has said that he was hoping it would be a secondary benefit....and at some...

Out of curiosity... from Australia :)

I'm in Canada, so while not really qualified to give an answer....I still think I can answer your question pretty well. Some think he's doing an amazing job, others think he's a disaster and some are in between. I think most here tend to like him (from what I see posted)....and when I say...

    Necessary?

I live in Canada, but its much the same here as it is in most US states. The government has decided which businesses are essential and which are not, and it really bothers me. I've experienced job loss, and it can be devastating. Beyond the obvious economic impact, people lose their identity...

Vitamin D Determines Severity in COVID-19: Researchers Urge Government to Change Advice

This Corona virus pandemic could be the weapon that takes our liberties away , all in the name of saving lives?

I have to keep reminding myself to be kind....there are a lot of people who are genuinely scared and it doesn't help the situation to say the information their fear is based on, that its fake. In point of fact, its not fake....but its not the full picture either. I'm in Canada and we've had...

Vitamin D Determines Severity in COVID-19: Researchers Urge Government to Change Advice

What I'm reading says you'd have to take rather large amounts of supplements to do any harm...here's a good article: https://medshadow.org/vitamin-d-pros-cons/?gclid=Cj0KCQjw-_j1BRDkARIsAJcfmTGCnxnrNTZ-Q3hU3eFbAjV639-9rWJATro9Hh2uQnwMuwwT7_7g4L4aApCqEALw_wcB

Vitamin D Determines Severity in COVID-19: Researchers Urge Government to Change Advice

I don't disagree with that....but ultimately over 99% of people who become infected fight it off. We already know that Covid-19 discriminates against the elderly (its ageist) and the immune compromised (unhealthyist)....I would not be surprised if there's a component that increases the risk in...

Vitamin D Determines Severity in COVID-19: Researchers Urge Government to Change Advice

Looking at this it strikes me that part of the reason for divergently different infection and mortality rates may have less to do with the success of lockdown measures, and more to do with other factors....like this study about how Vitamin D deficiency is shown to increase the severity and...

This Corona virus pandemic could be the weapon that takes our liberties away , all in the name of saving lives?

There is no perfect solution obviously, the only thing that really can be done is to try and minimize the amount of harm being done....in public health the term 'harm reduction' is used. I'm in Canada, and for the most part I believe our social safety is broader and deeper than what exits in...

This Corona virus pandemic could be the weapon that takes our liberties away , all in the name of saving lives?

Excellent point, and this has been my issue with lockdown measures all along, the overwhelming feeling that the measures are completely out of proportion to the level of the threat.....we've never seen anything like this done to protect human life, ever. Take Peanut allergies, a serious and...

This Corona virus pandemic could be the weapon that takes our liberties away , all in the name of saving lives?

I'm with you....but also concerned about what's going on. Yes the Coronavirus is real, and people are dying of Covid-19....but when everything is said and done I believe we're going to find out that mortality rate is somehwere around just 0.2%.....which is worse than the seasonal flu, but not...

This Corona virus pandemic could be the weapon that takes our liberties away , all in the name of saving lives?

Interesting, I had read that in Lousiana that blacks only make up about a third of the state's population, but 75% of the states Covid deaths, and likewise in Sweden there's apparently a sizeable Somali community, and deaths among Somalis has been higher than it should be if Covid-19 was...
