    Understanding God’s election

I'm not certain about that. Cornelius and his family and friends were "devout and God-fearing" as proselytes who obviously were initially brought into the faith of Judaism under the Old Covenant. It's not clear from the passage that Cornelius was a believer in the coming Jewish Messiah. But...

    Understanding God’s election

That's your conclusion based on what Cam wrote? For your info, God "tasked" himself with election right in the Garden after the Fall. Just sayin'....

    Understanding God’s election

I'm glad you recognize this fact. God uses prayers as a means to accomplish his will. God's saints are his co-workers here in this age and in the age to come for all eternity. However, God is self-sufficient and needs nothing from his clay pots. And that was the big part of your question, as...

    Understanding God’s election

But scripture is infallible. And I only "assert" what is in God's Word. Also, if you truly believe that your personal knowledge of God's Word is fallible, how do you post your version of the gospel with such certainty? I do walk with "absolute certainty" because I implicitly trust God's...

    Understanding God’s election

Today's devotional by Charles Spurgeon is appropriate for this thread: November 8th AM "As ye have received Christ Jesus the Lord." Colossians 2:6 The life of faith is represented as receiving-- an act which implies the very opposite of anything like merit. It is simply the acceptance of a...

    Understanding God’s election

It seems that you don't understand why man was created in the first place. He was created to SERVE God and to glorify him. He was created as God's under lord to rule over His creation, etc. You asked a question about prayer, implying that you're unaware that God commands men to pray...

    Understanding God’s election

It's truly mind-boggling when we stop and think about this. So many professing Christians blaspheme God for freely and sovereignly choosing to rescue many helpless sinners while simultaneously choosing to pass over others and leave them in their sins that they so dearly relish.

    Understanding God’s election

Hah...but someone will complain that you're quoting all those passages out of context. Man is really a pretty good egg.

    Understanding God’s election

Because the life a born again child of God has been transformed. We know we are DIFFERENT. There's been a change made IN us. WE KNOW we have been rescued from the kingdom of darkness and brought into God's marvelous kingdom of light. And we can also know experientially because God's Spirit...

    Understanding God’s election

Of course, LIFE (regeneration) precedes the new birth! Do the physically dead have any ability to do anything physically? And doesn't life exist in a woman's womb before she gives birth? Then why would you just gloss over the metaphors of spiritual "resurrection" or the "new birth"? God must...

    Understanding God’s election

But God has also ordained all the means to accomplish his ends, including prayer.

Other than all the above man is in great spiritual shape.

    What Changed?

I've explained that to you. A "carnal or worldly Christian" is an oxymoron. Under the New Covenant, no true believer will remain in that state for very long. The better question would have been: What is the mark of unbelievers -- those who are OF this world, unlike true believers.

    What Changed?

Yes, Christians can backslide -- sometimes very seriously. But those occasions will be rare, for a true Christians CANNOT live in sin continually or indefinitely. Therefore, the true mark of a Christian cannot be carnal or worldly living. Such living is a mark of unbelievers.

    What Changed?

Oh yes...slaves and prisoners have "lots of freedom" within their very restricted confines. Prisoners are also free to bunk out in their cell when they want. They're also free to pace back 'n' forth in their cell when they want. They're also free lay on the concrete floor to do...

    What Changed?

You're quite wrong. Read the book of Exodus someday. The ancient Jews were totally under Pharaoh's control. Also, sinners in the bible are not only called slaves but are called prisoners. So I guess in your world, prisoners can bust their way out of their prisons at will, right?

    What Changed?

But the difference between the Christian and non-Christians is that Christ will not lose any of the sheep God has given them.. God will reign in his wandering sheep through his Good Shepherd. But Christ doesn't do that for the unregenerate non-elect. Also, the Spirit that Paul talks about in...

    What Changed?

The slaves to sin are BOTH! They act out true to their own evil nature in their rebellion against God.

    What Changed?

Re 1 John -- John addresses his original audience (primarily Jewish believers if you read the epistle carefully) as "dear children" (2:1, 18, 28, etc.) and "dear friends" (2:7), which are terms of endearment. John was clearly writing to fellow believers who had received the anointing from the...

    What Changed?

The Jews who were in bondage to Pharaoh in Egypt were totally under his control -- UNTIL God broke them out of prison! Also, your analogy fails because no one can break out of or change their own nature. We humans have zero power to change our nature in order to become something we are not...
