Is a doctrinal statement or the Scriptures the starting point for your church?

It all hinges on a person's definition of "cult." I use it to mean a group that does not believe in Jesus as God and deny the blood atonement. By this definition the KJV only people I know are not a "cult." Bing though defines cult as "a relatively small group of people having religious...

A translation "preference" is a whole lot different approach than the KJV only teaching.

I would run the other way too! And keep going for awhile. But I would not call them a cult. I have some good very sincere and godly friends in these groups.

Is a doctrinal statement or the Scriptures the starting point for your church?

In fact, just in our area here there are some churches that have KJV only on their signs by the main highway. I don't know that I have directly seen a statement of faith with KJV only in it, but I am quite certain some groups have it in there.

Is The Earth Flat Or Round?

The saddest part is they are not joking . . . believe me . . . I know people who right around me believe this stuff, and nothing or noone or any kind of evidence will change their mind! I fear if they get to heaven and see the round globe of the Earth from there, that they will argue with...

So you are saying you are not a part of any denomination? Do you have no preset doctrinal statement?

Good point, yes, they might see the light with a careful hermeneutical exercise. But not if they are loyal to their denomination first. I wonder if someone could with a careful hermeneutical exercise convince you that the gift of tongues has ceased? LOL!

Is a doctrinal statement or the Scriptures the starting point for your church?

Oh, I think that is great, and I highly respect the Assemblies of God group. But the point on this thread is the issue of denominations having a doctrinal statement that then determines how all within that group must interpret the Bible. And as you say above, the AG does just exactly that...

Is a doctrinal statement or the Scriptures the starting point for your church?

So you assume that verse 18 means all of the previous verses in the chapter? Where does the text say that? The first part of the chapter says a woman should be covered "praying or prophesying" -- as far as I see it does not limit this to "in church"? LOL! But this might be getting a bit...

Because you said, "My solution? Forget these denominations, move on, they're hindering the Spirit. Or is your denomination different than these? Does your denomination not have a doctrinal statement as a starting point?

I think your answer shows some clear practical wisdom: but it is also an admission of the issue . . .

Is a doctrinal statement or the Scriptures the starting point for your church?

But where does the text say "during worship"? How can you document something with a prooftext when the text does not say it directly?

Is a doctrinal statement or the Scriptures the starting point for your church?

I am glad for your experience in seminary and the denominational interaction. Your experience in seminary is obviously quite different from what I have experienced in local pastoring situations. And it is quite different from the entire tenor of my experience in local church interactions and...

Is a doctrinal statement or the Scriptures the starting point for your church?

So what about a doctrinal statement that reads: (1) Every woman that prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head (I Cor. 11:5) Would you agree with that doctrinal statement? ;)

Is a doctrinal statement or the Scriptures the starting point for your church?

Ok, so now I know I understand much more about AG than I did before. So AG is clearly a denomination that begins with a doctrinal statement that both lay members and minsters have to agree to. One of the key doctrinal statements is that healing is provided in the atonement and this should be...

Is The Earth Flat Or Round?

5 flat Earthers already!! What is this world coming to?? LOL! I personally think the issue here is not "common sense", nor is the issue "science, nor is the issue "the Bible". I think the issue is . . . . . . .... -- actually - I think I have no idea what the issue is . . . . . ...
