    Saved by Water

I praise God that He established the purpose of water baptism (remission of sins) before the Holy Ghost was even available.

    Jesus' Command in Matthew 28:19

@SophieT I'll offer this from my viewpoint, as something you can pray about and might benefit from. You've suggested that you want things in a more straightforward manner, so I'll share this in a straightfoward manner: 1. You forgot to "come out from among them" ...spiritually: You...

    Jesus' Command in Matthew 28:19

I try very hard to not agree with a statement (or question) that can be interpreted as saying something I'm not saying. It's part of "be wise as serpents, harmless as doves" (which is also why I would rather give a compliment than a cut-down) Often when you try to get me to agree to something...

    Saved by Water

I'll try to break this down by topic. Please forgive that it means I'll be pulling out one piece before answering the other. Sorry for the length. You are correct that the Holy Ghost / Holy Spirit is a 'Person' and therefore he has a name, not just a title/descriptor. (If someone claims to...

    Saved by Water

Yep. The last part of the verse works with the first. John was sent to establish water baptism (which Jesus continued in his ministry, which also continued after his death & resurrection at his command)... and Jesus established Spirit Baptism (which Jesus ONLY can and does do) Two distinctly...

    Saved by Water

Likewise it is time for me to get some sleep. I know this isn't much of a comfort but I did suggest not getting distracted by that comment about repentance. It would only derail a train of thought if allowed to do so. meanwhile I still genuinely thank you for continuing to discuss. Love...

    Saved by Water

Baptism only works by faith because of the blood of the Lamb. And it is only "for the remission of sins" because scripture says so. It would be of no power if it was only a statement made by man. Love in Jesus, Kelby

    Saved by Water

I will add something before the topic gets brought up directly to me. Water baptism is a part of repentance. Just wanted to have that out there since I see MailmanDan posting some verses along those lines. (please don't get distracted from the main topic by that tangential statement)

    Saved by Water

If a person gets water baptized for a reason other than for the remission of sins then yes, the aspect of remission of sins TRULY will NOT be a part of that baptism. Satan doesn't care how it gets screwed up. He just cares that it's not done right. But that doesn't change the fact that water...

Nope, not a minister... and not in a hurry to become one. Love in Jesus, Kelby

    Saved by Water

Galatians 2:7-8 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter; (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)

    Saved by Water

That's because different people are sent to different tasks. Paul also wasn't sent to the Jews...but I'm guessing you know it was still necessary for the Jews to have someone sent to them. It was just Peter rather than Paul. Love in Jesus, Kelby

    Saved by Water

Receiving the Holy Ghost is a different thing than receiving remission of sins. We need both. We need to be born of water and to be born of the Spirit. Baptized in water (which a man sent of God does) and baptized in the Holy Ghost (which only Jesus does). Love in Jesus, Kelby

    Jesus' Command in Matthew 28:19

The problem with that statement is that it is worded inaccurately. If you had said "there is but one thing that atones for our sins, and that is the shed blood of Christ on the cross" I would have agreed. I think I have always told you that there are 2 major aspects (or pieces) we need for...

    Saved by Water

No, but you do need scripture to ascertain the purpose of water baptism. Fortunately Mark 1:4 and Luke 3:3 directly state that purpose. (no matter how much anyone detests that purpose) "John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins." -...

how can I be assured as a Christian that I am born again ?

Have you received a clear & sufficient answer yet? Are you still looking? Love in Jesus, Kelby

    Saved by Water

My post wasn't intended as a personal attack. It was more along the lines of Galatians 5:7 "Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?" In other areas of doctrine you seem to require scriptural references before believing something to be true. It just surprised me...

    Saved by Water

Although I see a PROMISE being made in Acts 2:38 towards receiving the Holy Ghost, I feel your proposal might have error when it goes so far as to suggest water baptism is a pre-requisite for receiving the Holy Ghost. The biblical examples seem to show otherwise. And that is NOT meant to...
