Good morning, day, and night, fellow descendants of Adam and Eve!

 This thread contains a suggestion for a website upgrade: achievement system.

Achievement systems reward collectible medals and icons to people who solve particular problems. On forums such as these, an achievement system can be a solid indicator as to how reliable, informative, and mature members are.

How can achievements be awarded on Christianchat.com?
Administrators and moderators may give out medals to individuals.

Once every month, year, or anniversary of Christianchat.com, members may vote on who gets particular medals in an announcement poll.

Here are some examples of medals:

  • [*=1]Member of the year
    [*=1]Blog of the week
    [*=1]Best post of the day
    [*=1]Best thread of the month
[*=1]Most likely to become a moderator

  • [*=1]Most godly
    [*=1]Clown

    [*=1]Most tolerant of other's beliefs
    [*=1]Clean mouth (Never swears.)
[*=1]Least likely to go on a rampage and kill people if he/she is the pilot of an invincible warplane (This medal might never be awarded to Praus.)

There will be medals that only administrators and moderators may give out.

Where will these achievements be shown?
Each user profile will have a new tab called 'achievements', which features a scroll-able, multiple paged list showcasing the picture of each medal. When the mouse cursor is sent over the picture of a medal, a small pop-up window will appear, telling the viewer what the medal is and how many times this medal was earned by the user.

If a user is proud of medals he/she earned, he/she may have the option of displaying those particular medals underneath to his/her forum avatar. Only three medals may be shown.

Merry Christmas!

Not to sound too harsh, but this just sounds like another high school popularity contest in my opinion. I've seen forums torn apart by these "rewards" because of people playing favoritism, etc. We want all members welcome and feel as if they belong here, but when favoritism leaks into the system, that's when forums go downhill.

I nominate TaylorTG for most godly and least likely to go on a rampage and kill people.

Do you not realize how close I am to stabbing a random person in my neighborhood right now?

Yeah, I'm on the side of good intention, but ends in popularity contest. It could drive away new members. You can vote on threads, in the 'rate this thread' area, but hardly anyone seems to.

Yeah, no matter how well intended these things are, at the end of the day it just ends up being a popularity contest. And i can easily see this being a point of contention among some users. 'Wait, how did THEY get 'most Godly'? they're a blasphemous sinner with wrong doctrine!' and some continuing rant about the unfairness of it all. It would be less about any form of spiritual maturity than it would be garners the most votes. Not because it shows them as being right, but having garnered the most followers or supporters.
If you really want to know these things about people, just read. Because waht if 'most Godly' holds to doctrines that i don't? So i assume they are someone special when i approach them, yet only to find out i think what they have to say is a bunch of bull.
Also this adds problems to the recipient. Because now new people will be flocking to this person with questions.
As well as adding more work for the admins and mods. Just seems like a lot of work with little reward and a lot of potential to go wrong.

  • This is a Christian site. Not a high school. To put others higher is not really something this site should do. Most godly? I know mods have chat powers, but they aren't God, and should never refer to someone as more godly than another.
    This is a terrible idea.

Instead of rewards showing on CC, they could mail us chocolate as prizes. It would be a no tell if you got the chocolate policy.
