The following book is a great Bible study tool! Because it's a phrase concordance, not just a single word concordance, of the Bible. It's based upon the NKJV (New King James Version), and upon other key English translations of the Old and New Testaments. See: THE PHRASE CONCORDANCE OF THE BIBLE. Copyright 1986, Thomas Nelson Publishers, Nashville, TN.

Covenant and mercy. Please .... Look up that phrase in the Bible. Use your Strong's concordance or Young's Analytical concordance if that's all you have. Or Cruden's concordance. or Nave's Topical Bible. Or use your Thompson Chain Reference Bible or other Bibles. God bless you.

That would be great, but we must also not just take the men who wrote any book at face value without testing it first.

mercy in the greek,

ἐλεέω, impf. ἠλέουν: f. ήσω: aor. I ἠλέησα: (ἔλεος):—like ἐλεαίρω, to have pity on, shew mercy upon, c. acc., Od., Att.:—Pass. to be pitied, have pity or mercy shewn one, Plat.
2. absol. to feel pity, Ar.

Liddell, H. (1996). A lexicon : Abridged from Liddell and Scott's Greek-English lexicon (249). Oak Harbor, WA: Logos Research Systems, Inc.

Yeah, it should be humbling to think God felt so much pity on those he loved, he sent his son to die for them. You get a deeper understanding of what Grace is.

Of course that is why so many reject grace and either do not believe in Christ, or try to work to earn Gods forgiveness. Because it is against ALL human nature to accept the fact that

1. We are guilty
2. There is nothign we can do to earn forgiveness
3. That God felt pity on us,

That's true. But there's more to it. The Greek word for mercy is similar to the Greek word for oil. So by implication mercy is the oil that God pours on our wounds of sin. I forget the exact reference, but I think maybe these two words in Greek may have some semantic relation. Greek is a nuanced language, and often words that are simple in English are nuanced and have multiple symbolic meanings in Greek. Greek is a philosophical, mystical language, full of symbols. Mercy is more than pity. And God does not pity in the sense of God looking down on people and despising them. No, God's chief attribute is love, not wanting us to be put to shame, but to save us from the shame of our sins. He wants us to love and fear Him. Pity is just a minor semblance of what true mercy is.
We get the best picture of what grace is on Pascha. When Christ conquers death, we learn Who Christ is, and we learn what His mercy does: saves us from death itself. The Cross is only the beginning; His mercy extends beyond the grave to Christ's resurrected glorified Body. His Resurrection is the firstfruits of our first resurrection in Him as believers. He helps us to be born again so we shall participate in the first resurrection, of those He saves by His mercy (Titus 3:5).
What you say is not wrong at all in any way. It's just not the whole story.
It's all about His love, and it's more than mere pity. It's "Everlasting love" according to the Psalms.
Isn't THAT GOOD NEWS (GOSPEL)?
