I moved from there, how I miss it! The trail from the arboretum to the Pittock mansion is like going to the most wonderful Cathedral. I am not Catholic, but what a treat the Grotto off Sandy Blvd is. The food! Curling up by the fireplace on a rainy day! Gathering books at Powells, and looking them over with coffee at their Café. The Pearl District. The symphony. The Rose Garden and the Japanese Garden. What! a city!

Hi Ms raejane; good to see you; God bless His Word to you.

I don't know Portland, but...how come Portland isn't the state capital rather than Salem?

faroukfarouk--Ha ha ha ha!! I don't think anyone knows that answer to that one. :D

Portland is a great place...to fly into on my way home from somewhere else. ;) Most of us Salem-ites like the convenience of some of the city amenities, without the inconvenience of the annoying traffic and higher crime rate.

Shalom from Salem, JRuiz. :)

I just discovered that the Japanese Gardens in Portland website has so many photos it is almost like going there.

Have any of you hiked the wonderful trails in the Columbia Gorge, especially the Eagle Creek trail? Every year we went for breakfast at Multnomah Falls, then hiked the trail to the top of the falls. Beautiful. Two other favorites was the trail to Ramona Falls, especially when the wild rhododendrons are in bloom. Every year we hiked the trail at Silver Falls Trail, the loop is only 8 miles long with ten waterfalls, one you walk under. All these hikes quite near Portland. It is a wonderful place to live.

The Northwest certainly seems like a really great place, scenically, and in terms of wide open spaces.
