Today's passage comes from Luke 29-32

29 And while the crowds were thickly gathered together, He began to say, “This is an evil generation. It seeks a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet. 30 For as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so also the Son of Man will be to this generation. 31 The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here. 32 The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.

This passage speaks of the importance of faith. This is not blind faith, as the prophecies concerning the Lord were given that we may recognize him when he came. But, as the people of our Lord's time were, some people want more proof rather than cherishing the proofs they have already been given. Even though the Lord did many signs and wonders, the people still wanted more and more. But to those who required not a sign, they had seen even more and in abundance, because they would remain unshaken even without it. I think that is also a very important point for us to remember, that the Lord is already with us, and that we don't blindly believe but believe according to that which has been given to us by God. Our faith is not merely our own decision, it is a gift from God.

May we never require any more of the Lord than that which he has already given us, but give thanks when he does further bless us with more. Amen
