Prov. 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

I am not sure how to reconcile the difference between this passage and walking humbly beside God in Micah 6:8.

Prov 1:7 is not talking about a general fear of being near God. It's talking about being afraid to knowingly do something that is hurtful in his presence (because of knowing how God hates evil).

Micah 6:8 is saying (similarly) that God is LOVE and love does no harm to its neighbor...so you should walk humbly with the God of Love.

Does that help?

Prov. 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

I am not sure how to reconcile the difference between this passage and walking humbly beside God in Micah 6:8.
“He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
‭‭Micah‬ ‭6:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Why would you want to distinguish a difference in the two ?

it says the fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom , the other is making a statement about what he requires of the man.

Daniel was one of three men who God said thier own righteousness could deliver them , yet Daniel one of the wisest men ever to exist this is how the lords presence affected him

“Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength. Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground. And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands. And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling. Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.

And when he had spoken such words unto me, I set my face toward the ground, and I became dumb. And, behold, one like the similitude of the sons of men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him that stood before me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have retained no strength. For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me. Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me, And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.”
‭‭Daniel‬ ‭10:8-12, 15-19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

notice men always become sore afraid when he is near , but when they reach that place of terror he always touches them and speaks words of strength almost exclusively he says on some form “ do nOt be afraid “

We talk often of grace but truth and the fear of God accomplishes in grace what is needed

By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭16:6‬ ‭KJV‬

when we have sin present in us that fear is meant to cause is to part from it and that’s wisdom to part from evil and cling to his side knowing his mercy and truth that he is for us

fear of the lord is wise and it is what leads to walking humbly in the spirit it’s all relevant only a matter of order

The fear spoken of in the passage is about respect, not about doing something hurtful in His presence.

What I said IS respect. But I'll forewarn you that I'm currently debating how to handle you. You COULD be answering this because you want to be helpful to me or Katia... or you could simply be giving another negative reply.

If you're truly a kid (child, youth, minor) as your name implies, then some additional mercy may be due. But if you're an adult... maybe you should read Psalm 75 that someone sent in a text as i was typing this. (Especially verses 4-8). Perhaps you'll increase in wisdom and we could talk openly as friends... Or you could go for further mocking, etc. It's up to you. Just don't choose one and think you could pretend the other. God is real and you can't fool him for a second.

I don't agree that what you describe is respect. To do something hurtful in His presence is to do something hurtful at anytime and anywhere because His presence is everywhere at all times. So your explanation leaves something to be desired.

As for your rant, I'll just ignore it. I don't ever try to fool my God.

What i would like to know is why very few christians do not fear God in this:

Every word of God is flawless;
He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.
Do not add to His words,
lest He rebuke you and prove you a liar.
Proverbs 30

I testify to everyone who hears the words of prophecy in this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and the holy city, which are described in this book.

There is no need of reconciling these scriptures. In Pro.1:7, the word for fear is yirah, which in this passage means to awsomely respect or revere the Lord. The word reverence pretty much sums it up.

A prophetic word from the Holy Spirit to you.

The closer you draw near to Me the fewer there will be next to you.
But do not be dismayed for you have chosen to believe what i have said in My word where few follow.
Mockers are everywhere, even amongst your own brethren, for they have not seen what I have shown you.
The day is drawing near where those gems I placed in your heart will be more valuable then gold in this life.
Continue to cherish My Holy Spirit as He will be your Guide and the Truth will be ever more clearer.

I'm not sure that I understand the difference or what is incongruous with these two verses.

Walking prudently or humbly according to what God has said in the scriptures (as said in the immediately preceding line of verse in Micah) is living in fear/respect with God.

I'm not a Biblical linguist. Perhaps here the word fear might be closer to the words In Awe? There are 450 English language translations of which I have used about 6. The way I feel about God, my Heavenly Father, is not the same as the way I felt about my brutal, abusive stepfather.

Sorry to hear about that. God loves you (and me) and He is not abusive.

Here is more of the fear of the Lord:
1.) In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God - John 1:1
2.) For all those things My hand has made, And all those things exist,” Says the LORD. “But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My word.

The fear of the Lord is for our own protection - God gives His approval and protection to those who fear Him.

YES it is awe - but much more than that, for there are many earthly things that hold us in awe.

Without the fear of the Lord the enemy finds his way to deceive us.

Can you think of individuals in Scripture who lacked the fear of the Lord.
First ones who come to my mind is Eve and Adam.

They knew what God had told them.........that was enough for them to reject satan and eat of the Tree of Life in the midst of the Garden.
Had they done so, they would not of died.

The Bible also says...fear God.

We can walk with God without fear. But, understand the words...when we are walking with Him we are obedient. When we are in step with His requirements...we have no fear.
