Handbook on Cults & False Religions

Many Churches and groups claiming to be Christian have differences of opinion over such issues as Church government, the proper mode of Baptism, and when the Rapture of the Church is going to happen. These issues do not define cults because these are considered peripheral doctrines (that is, they are minor doctrines over which people can freely disagree). Other Doctrines of the Christian Faith are so essential that if you deny one or more of them, you are no longer truly Christian. Five Doctrines are especially important;

1. Scripture = The Holy Bible is the inspired and authoritative Word of God.

2. God = The One True God is infinite and eternal, revealed in Three Persons; The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.

3. Jesus = Jesus is Eternal God as the second Person of the Trinity. In the incarnation, He took on a human nature , being born of a virgin. He died for all humankind's sins and three days later physically rose from the dead.

4. Humanity = God created human beings in His image, and they are morally accountable to the Creator.

5. Sin and Salvation = Every human being is born into the world in a state of dire sin and is estranged from God. People can do nothing to merit Salvation before God. SALVATION IS BY GRACE ALONE THROUGH FAITH ALONE, BASED SOLELY ON THE ATONEMENT WROUGHT BY JESUS CHRIST.

Some Cults & False Religion Sects

Satanism, Christian Science, Latter-Day Saints or Mormans, Jehovah's Witnesses, The Masonic Lodge, All Islam Sects, The New Age Movement, Religious Science, Astrology, Spiritism, Transcendental Meditation, Wicca/Witchcraft, Zen, Roman Catholics

The Roman Catholic Faith vs Biblical Christianity

Features that set the Roman Catholic Church apart from other Christian Churches include the following beliefs and practices.

To belong to the Roman Catholic Church, a member must accept as factually true the Gospel of Christ as handed down in tradition and as interpreted by the churches Bishops in union with the Pope.

Matthew 15:1-3, 23:27-28, Mark 7:6-9, 7:13

Belief in the infallibility of the Pope in his giving of definitive rulings on matters of faith and morals.

John 4:23-24, 10:3-6, Romans 3:19-26

Belief that individual salvation is achieved through both faith and works.

Romans 8:1-4, 9:30-32, John 3:16-26, Acts 4:12

Belief in purgatory as a place where souls go after death for Spiritual cleansing and growth before going to Heaven.

Luke 16:19-31

Belief that the saints who should be venerated, are able to act as intercessors between God and man.

John 16:12-15, 10:27-30, 14:26-27, 16:7-15, Romans 8:26-27

Belief that the virgin Mary, The Mother of God and Queen of the Church, was conceived without orignal sin, retained her virginity throughout her life, and was assumed into Heaven.

Get your facts straight, and watch who you're calling a heretic. You're just as likely to make someone else's list as they are yours.

For starters:
Spiritism and Astrology are practices, not religions. Christians have practiced them before. This isn't to say that they are good or useful, but that they are not 'cults' or 'religions'. They are things that some cultists and religious people do.

Mormon is spelled with os. There is no a.

"Masonic Lodge" is a type of building. Freemasonry is not a religion, it is a fraternal order based around philosophy and ideas; people of any theistic faith can become Free Masons, including Christians.

Transcendental Meditation is not a religion, it is a technique that can be used in any religion or without religion. The ancient Hebrews used their own form of meditation and TM has been shown to have beneficial physiological effects.

dude you keep falling for the deceivers

1 Spiritism and Astrology are banned in the Old Testament under pain of death.
2 Freemasonry is occult religion and they have their own funerals - they misrepresent the Bible
3 TM may open the path to possession, so might drugs

Gonna have to agree with Greatkraw on a few things.

Traditional Christian meditation is quite different from TM. If I recall correctly, in TM one tries to empty your mind. In Christian meditation one focuses your thoughts on something, typically Christ or some Christian virtue you wish to attain.

Freemasonry is a cult, they're also somewhat anti-Catholic. In fact, if you're Catholic you're not allowed to join the Masons.
