This blog is for understanding because some out there say the commandments do not exist or apply today. My understanding through out the scriptures is that they do. Jesus says to obey mans law as a way of honoring God unless that law contradicts God. Now can a mans law contradict God if God's doesn't apply. Plus if God's law does not apply then we would have to follow the anti-christ laws when he establishes them here on earth and we would still go to Heaven, but we know also from scriptures that we can not follow the anti-christ. Let me know your thoughts, thank you and God bless.

The commandments do exist for us today. They exist in the command of Jesus to love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength and to love your neighbor as yourself. If you look at the 10 commandments, you will see that for you to do both of these things, you'd have to obey the 10 commandments. :)

Exactly where i am getting at. I believe they do also cause nowhere in the new testament does it say He eliminated them. He came to fulfill them through love. There unfortunately are some and i have even seen them on this site saying we no longer have to follow them, but that is contradictory to Jesus teaching.

John 14:15 "If you love me, you will keep my commandments...

Some people emphasize the word 'keep', try emphasizing the word 'will'..it changes everything! :)

Yes, many believe and say that Jesus did away with the law, but Jesus specifically said that He did not come to do away with the law.

Matthew 5:17-18, The Message Translation, Jesus speaking, says, "Don’t suppose for a minute that I have come to demolish the Scriptures—either God’s Law or the Prophets. I’m not here to demolish but to complete. I am going to put it all together, pull it all together in a vast panorama. God’s Law is more real and lasting than the stars in the sky and the ground at your feet. Long after stars burn out and earth wears out, God’s Law will be alive and working."

The Bible says all over the place, in both the Old Testament and the New that we are to keep God's Commandments. In my opinion, anyone who doesn't realize that must be spiritually blind. The sinful nature does not want to obey God so it seeks for excuses not to have to do it.

Yes and the ones who say that they don't apply forget about the scripture where God says, "I am the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow." He does not change, and Jesus says in the new testament, "There are others I must bring into my fold." That doesn't sound like He is to conform to us, but we our to confirm to His way.

The problem is, that is NOT what the Bible says,

John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Yes, and they use when it was written for some of their excuses. I don't know how many times i have heard the bible was for back then and does not apply today it is out-dated. Which is where some of these very far off based new aged religions are coming from now.

When I was watching Bride Wars oh so long ago, there is a comment made about a Vera Wang dress. She said, "You don't alter a Vera Wang to fit you, you alter yourself to fit Vera Wang." Or some such thing. :) The minute I heard that, I thought, "Most Christians don't believe this about Christianity. You don't alter the Bible to fit you, you alter yourself to fit the Bible. Yet, this is not the mentality of most believers. They find ways to dance and hide and are constantly searching for loopholes."

By the way, that's why TO LOVE GOD is a command in the first place...

Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Now yes its true that if you DO love Him, you will keep His commandments, but He isn't going to force you to love Him and He isn't going to make you love Him... that's a choice that only YOU can make. And if you are not keeping His commandments that's proof you do not really love Him as you claim to do.

Christianity has flip flopped so badly. I remember back in the 80's all the fire and brimestone talk scaring people who you don't give this, if you don't do that you are going to hell. By the way they talked every one was doomed. That still happens but not as bad. Now it is more changing of the word to fit lifestyles. They even teach in this new age religion that i read Oprah was apart of that they teach that Jesus is not the only way to Heaven. Scripture though shows different.

We must also remember that just cause you still sin every once in awhile that you do not love God. He knows your heart and that you are trying to keep the commandments. Jesus said if you say you do not sin, you are lying.

"If you love me, you will keep my commandments. (Joh 14:15)
I guess it depends on the translation?

“If ye love Me, keep My commandments." KJ21

If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments. ASV

If you [really] love Me, you will keep (obey) My commands. AMP

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments." CEB

Jesus said to his disciples:If you love me, you will do as I command. CEV

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments." ESV

“If you love me, you will obey my commands [or If you love me, obey my commands; [SUP]C [/SUP]this may be either a declaration or a command]. " EXB

If ye love me, keep my commandments. KJV

“If you love me, obey me; and I will ask the Father and he will give you another Comforter, and he will never leave you." TLB (includes verse 16 as well)

“If you love me, show it by doing what I’ve told you. I will talk to the Father, and he’ll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you. This Friend is the Spirit of Truth. The godless world can’t take him in because it doesn’t have eyes to see him, doesn’t know what to look for. But you know him already because he has been staying with you, and will even be in you!" MSG (includes verses 16 and 17 as well)

“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments." NASB

“If you love me, keep my commands." NIV

“If you love Me, keep My commandments." NKJV

“If you love me, obey my commandments." NLT

There are many, many more, but I think this is enough for now. :)

Right. The Bible says if we say we have no sin, we are lying, and it also says if we say we know Him but keep not His commandments we are liars.

But I believe that we cannot change if we do not first admit we are sinners. That's what the Law is for, it convicts us of sin... we see the Law, and we see Jesus Christ Himself and we realize we are far from what we should be. Then we ought to feel contrite for our sins. Then the Holy Spirit works on us to change our hearts to become more and more like Jesus.

That is why I believe that when it says that if we say we have no sin, we are lying... really applies to that first stage, because we cannot ever make any progress unless we first recognize the fact we are sinners. Then, if we carry on just living as we did before, while claiming to love Christ, we demonstrate that we never loved Jesus in the first place.

However, the Bible does also say Little children do not sin... but if you do sin, you have an Advocate Jesus Christ. The Bible says the righteous man falls seven times but gets back up... that means we will often have to weep at the feet of Jesus for our sins.

But it all has to do with our motivation. A genuine Christian is continually striving to become more and more like Christ, because he or she loves God and His ways. A genuine Believer will never take sin lightly.

The Apostle Paul said not that I count myself as having attained perfection, but I continue on striving towards it.

Exactly that is what it all boils down to is we have to strive to become like him, as long as we are trying to be like our Lord then we are doing what we are suppose to be doing. As for kids when do you stop and no longer consider them to be free of sin, because it also says in the scriptures that the children will be insobordnant and full of sin to and in need of correction. Which comes into the widely mistranslated and quoted verse in the bible. Where people say, "Spare the rod and spoil the child." But that is not what the scripture says at all. Proverbs 13:24 He who spares the rod hates his child, but the one who loves him disciplines him diligently.
