did Adam Clarke say tongues were different languages?
a miraculous gift?

or did he mean unintelligible noises?
I've never seen an Op change the subject and derail their own thread before........

can TRUE PROPHETS give false prophecies (MAKE ERRORS)?
This does not compute. Although their lives may be or have been in a state of "weakness" or "disrepair", God uses those situations to make them whole again or to show His true power through their weaknesses during their prophetic time. God seems to prefer people with flaws, but by no means does He give false information.

Maggie I can't see how you can say that a prophet of God is providing wrong information....

True prophets make errors
1 Kings 19:13-18 [SUP]13 [/SUP]And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah? [SUP]14 [/SUP]And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away. [SUP]15 [/SUP]And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria: [SUP]16 [/SUP]And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room. [SUP]17 [/SUP]And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay. [SUP]18 [/SUP]Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

Jonah 1:1-3 [SUP]1 [/SUP]Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, [SUP]2 [/SUP]Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. [SUP]3 [/SUP]But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.

Abraham lied about his wife, Moses’ smoting of the rock prevented him from entering into Canaan, David sinned with Bathsheba and killing her husband, Peter separated himself from Gentiles and sat with Jews, the apostle Paul called high priest a whited wall, Paul and Barnabas argued over John Mark and had to go their separate ways..... And the list goes on and on.........

I think the problem is "WHAT IS a prophet?"
What in plain honest words is a prophet to you?

Ummmm...... I don't know..... Not much is written about what they did wrong. Maybe I was presumptuous for thinking if they did some of the things that was written purposely, the possibility of prophesying incorrectly was there. After all, they lived in carnal flesh just like you and me. Just noting they were by no means perfect.:)

Often times someone who ends up, with their head on a platter, thrown in a well, hiding from the queen, thrown in a lions den, life threatened.

Often times it isn't someone with a fleet of personal jets who sleeps in the luxury suites and hauls in a huge seven figure income from a flock who has an average salary just above the poverty line.

Sorry Stephen, but the Bible states thus

Deuteronomy 18:21-22, "And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him."

Isaiah 8:20, "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them."

The Lord never said they would be perfect.

Murderers and thieves also fit that description. I really want to know, what is a prophet?

You are correct. He now speaks through sons.
are you one he speaks through?

Hebrews 1
1Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. 2And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. 3The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven. 4This shows that the Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is greater than their names.
John 1:10-12

10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

Yes. I am. Are you now admitting that you do not believe?

wait, wait, wait...can we slow down, or back up, please?

because I want to be v-e-r-y sure I don't misunderstand this.

who exactly do you say you are, amazed?

to as many as received Him gave He the power to become sons of God. Even to them that believe in His name.
Do you believe this beloved? That I am a son of God?

that's not a determination for me to make.

universalism, which you preach, is soundly unscriptural, though.

i was basically checking you don't think you're THE Son of God.

could you use a larger font, at all?

tongues, when exposed for the unbiblical practice it is brings the whole modern prophets house of cards down with it.

so do you feel up to answering the questions?

Please don't attempt to blur the line between murderers and prophets.

Please see my earlier post. God used their shortcomings to show His perfection. He didn't give them false information, that would be nonsense.

So even though you did not ask a question in your post , the answer is NO.......you cannot assume that because they made the errors you mentioned that any of their teaching was untrue. I think that is what makes them so Prophetic, that people would see all of the errors that you posted in these prophets and still know by the end result that they were INDEED prophets of the One True God.

On the whole and as a whole ,as Christians, we need to spend a whole lot more of our time speaking TO and WITH God and a whole lot less time speaking FOR God.

That is not an attempt. It's simply not a good definition of what a prophet is. Thieves and murderers also give good gifts to their children. I asked a simple question. How about we please don't turn it into something it's not.

I'd like to know what is a prophet?
