Proverbs 1: 7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Sometimes we forget how awesome and powerful our God is, and when we think of how much he loves us we forget we should also fear him. Just like raising our own children, when we punish our children it is out of love to teach them right from wrong, to lead them in the direction they should go. My parents taught me to love and fear God and I pray I have done the same for my son.

We all have days when it seems like God is not there. God will never give us more than we can handle.

The fear of the Lord will lead us to keep the commandments.
Revelation 14:6-7
(6) And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
(7) Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

Amen so do I.

It is not love to allow children to get everything they want but to teach them what is right and what is wrong and to learn to put the needs of others and the love of others first and themselves last, to be servants as Jesus showed us by washing the feet of others and loving them.

allowing a child to be spoiled does not mean you love them but is a sign of hatred and ignorance and neglect. For if you truly loved them you would chastens them as God does His children.

I truly don't think I was brought up to fear my God & I certainly didn't fear him when I began my spiritual journey.
For me it was more a healthy respect.

The fear of the Lord is what brought me to Him. I didn't understand Love, to begin with. But I did understand fear. Then after He brought me to the Knowledge of His Saving Grace, He taught me about Love...

Crystal:

Hey, I don't think that is really to fear, or be scared of Him..
I think it is more of an awe in reverance..

Perfect love cast's out all fear.. I believe personally this is in reference to calvary and what Yeshua did for us... Under the Old law, people lived in fear of death for Yeshua had not defeated it...Now, we are IN HIM and the Father see's us IN HIM..
I do however believe that He honors piety and do practice it simply because He is as you said, "an awsome God"
