There are alot of misunderstanding about the new covenant, some believe we are in it now because of Yeshua's death and resurrection. It sounds good, but Yeshua renewed God's original covenant to Abraham. By becoming the final sacrifice for sin.
All I ask is just read the following scripture with prayer and study and let God show you what it is.
Ezekiel 37:15-23 15) Again the Word of the Lord came to me, saying,16) "As for you, son of man, take a stick for yourself and write on it: For Judah and for the children of Israel, his companions. Then take another stick and write on it. For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel, his companions.17) Then join them one to another for yourself into one stick, and they will become one in your hand.
18) And when the children of your people speak to you, saying, "Will you not show us what you mean by these?"
19)"say to them, "Thus says the Lord God: "Surely I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel, his companions; and I will join them with it, with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they will be one in My hand."
20)"And the sticks on which you write will be in your hand before thir eyes.
21) "Then say to them, "Thus says the Lord God: "Surely I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, wherever they have gone, and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land.;
22) "and I will make them ONE Nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one King shall be King over them all; they shall no longer be two nations, nor shall they ever be divided into two kingdoms again.
23) "They shall not defile themselves anymore with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions; but I will deliver them from all their dwelling places in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them. Then they shall be My people, and I will be their God.
Here's how we know that this isn't happened yet is the last verse. But hang on there's more.
Jeremiah 31:31-34
31)"Behold the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah
32)"not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a HUSBAND to them, says the Lord.
33)"But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My Torah/law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
34)"No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, "Know the Lord, for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.
Now from reading this, it coincides with Ezekiel and shows Israel is not in this place yet, especially verse 34. Now look at Isaiah
Isaiah 2:2-4 Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the Lord's house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And all nations shall flow to it.
3)Many people shall come and say "Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord. To the HOUSE of the God of JACOB; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths." For out of Zion shall go forth the Torah/law, And the Word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4) He shall judge between the nations, And rebuke many peopl; They shall beat their swords into plwshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore.
It is clear that this does not happen till Yeshua returns and becomes King of Kings and proclaims His kingdom. Especially reading verse 4
Hebrews 8:8-13 8) Because finding fault with them, He says, "Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah
9) "not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord
10) "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord; I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God and they shall be My people.
11) "None ofthem shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, "Know the Lord, FOR ALL SHALL KNOW ME, from the least of them to the greatest of them.
12) "For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more."
13) In that He says, " A new covenant, " He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
Now look at this, Hebrews here is a direct quote from Jeremiah, and as we can see, Israel physical or spiritual has not become to the point of not needing to teach one another.
First God is saying He will restore Israel(Ephraim) and Judah back into Israel from among all the nations in the world, which has never happened. It started in '48' but has picked up in the last 20 yrs. but will not complete until Yeshua returns.
Then Jeremiah, Isaiah, and Hebrews all describe the same thing about healing Israel, Torah being in there heart and mind and no more war and God wiping away there iniquities.
We know this hasn't happened because Israel has alot of idolatry going on and is commiting alot of sin right now before the Lord.
And finally we see that the new covenant that hebrews is talking about (that is directly quoted from Jeremiah as I've put above ) did not go into affect at the cross as some believe, because otherwise hebrews when quoting Jeremiah would have stated that it has now been completed instead of showing it yet to be done. Especially since Hebrews was written after Yeshua ascended into Heaven.
So in verse 13 we know the first covenant is becoming obsolete(not yet done) it is growing old ready to vanish away, and when Yeshua returns, He will activate the new covenant with Israel.
Here is a clear case of how scripture backs up scripture. Especially when the NT quotes the OT. Shalom
