To rebuke does not mean to point out every sin we see; it means to bring sin to a person's attention with the purpose of restoring him or her to God and to fellow humans. When you feel you must rebuke another Christian for a sin, check your attitudes before you speak. Do you love the person? Are you willing to forgive? Unless rebuke is tied to forgiveness, it will not help the sinning person.

Luke 17:3-4 NLT

So watch yourselves!

“If another believer sins, rebuke that person; then if there is repentance, forgive. Even if that person wrongs you seven times a day and each time turns again and asks forgiveness, you must forgive.”

To rebuke is to correct, it is cousin to restoration.

Brothers if see one overtaken in a fault, you which are spiritual restore such an one in the spirit of meekness, lest you are also tempted. Gal. 6:1

Revelation 3:19
(19) As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
Proverbs 3:11-12
(11) My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:
(12) For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.
Psalms 6:1
(1) To the chief Musician on Neginoth upon Sheminith, A Psalm of David. O LORD, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.

great thread biggiestomp

my 2 cents is
its never in what we say but in the manner and spirit we say it, to hold ourselves accountable first and foremost to the teachings of Christ Jesus, not feigned love to speak harsh words to another claiming "defending the truth yada yada yada"

fruit of the spirit - God expects the fruit to grow, comes thru humility

For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. (James 3:7-8).

No cunning, persuasion, or influence has ever been able to silence it. Nothing but the grace of God, excision, or death, can bring it under subjection.

Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words: That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not. (Psa 64:3-4)
