I know the verse where it states that Jesus is the exact representation and image of the invisible God (paraphrased poorly), but what does it truly mean to be the "Son" of God?

If Jesus is God, and there is only one God in 3 persons, He is not a created being but always was, is, and will be, correct? Is Jesus Lord and Creator?

GM777, God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are known as the Trinity. The word "tri" means three. They are also referred to as the Godhead. God is without beginning and without end. He is Alpha and Omega. Alpha means "first" or "beginning." Omega means "last" or "ending." He began this earth, he will end this earth. He will create a NEW heaven and a NEW earth.

Jesus is the Son of God. He came here to earth as a human and lived a perfect, sinless life, and he died on the cross for the sins of the world. He took all our sins upon him, all the pain, all the diseases, all inflictions in life upon himself!! I find that amazing. Jesus sits at the right hand of God's throne in his kingdom.

The Holy Spirit is the combination of God and Jesus. It is the spirit that comes to new believers and newly baptized people. It is the "still, small voice" that Jesus talked about.

Hope this helps answer your question!! :)

Greetings GM777.

Yesterday I uploaded to YouTube a very informative lecture given by D.A. Carson regarding the question "What Do We Mean When We Confess Jesus To Be The Son of God?"

I hope it can help the discussion here.

John 1 says of the Lord Jesus, the Son of God: 'All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made.'

"I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." ... Galatians 2:20

Apt quotation from Galatians.

Blessings.

In addition the the obvious reference to Jesus being God, I think it is to put focus on the fact that the kingdom is His
("inheritance").

. . . but what does it truly mean to be the "Son" of God.
"He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven."

- Matthew 16:15-17

Jesus is the power by which all creation occurred........the Holy Trinity......is surely a difficult thing for mankind to comprehend.

God the Father: God OF man who desired a personal relationship with His people

God the Son: God AS man, who took upon Himself the form of man to establish His salvation plan for man so that He could have that personal relationship He desired.

God the Holy Spirit: God WITHIN man........the realization of that personal realtionship
