The Bible says that the heart is decietful and wicked. Most of the time when people say things such as "follow your heart" they're referring to emotions. Are emotions deceitful and wicked?

Emotions are neither...they follow your mind(heart). Change your thinking and emotions will follow thoughts
thoughts make up the heart(affections) affections usually guide us and direct our desires.

Proverbs:
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. (NIV)
Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life. (AMP)
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. (KJV)

Romans 12

1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

1 Peter 1:13-16
King James Version (KJV)
13Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

14As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:

15But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

16Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

So following your heart will help or hurt depending on what you set your affections on...what your mind is fixed on
whether things above and in faith. Or things below and carnal. Emotions will just follow.

Five distinct and integrated features make up the human soul and they are...

1. the mind - this is the human intellect which has the ability to think and reason with logic in an objective manner and must have a vocabulary for comprehension

2. the emotions - that part which is only an appreciator of the thoughts of the mind (example: if we are having negative thoughts our emotions respond in a negative way to those thoughts and can not act independently)

3. the volition (or will) - this is the decision maker that is subject to the imaginations and thoughts of the heart that come from the knowledge, information and understanding we have stored in the memory center of the mind

4. the conscience - this is that part of the human soul that stores the norms and standards for living which is contributed to by those we have been brought up and live with, the varied instructions we have received from others in this life and the stimuli and projections that we have perceived and subject to in this world system in which we live

5. our conscious capacity - this relates to self-consciousness, God consciousness and world consciousness (example: before we became a new creature in Christ we were self-conscious and were occupied with who we were and how we relate to everyone and everything in this life without being conscious of God... when we became a new creature in Christ (2Cor 5:17, Gal 6:15), self-consciousness passed away and we became God-conscious through the word and the Holy Spirit)

*All of these make up the human soul and relates to the heart that is in man. We were conceived in sin and born with a deceitful heart and our human soul became corrupt with a great need for redemption. The redemption that we have through the cross and blood of Christ redeems every part of the human soul so that we can be renewed in our mind, have peace and stability in our emotions, have sound doctrine and faith to make good decisions in our volition, have a new conscience to store up new norms and standards to live by through sound doctrine and grace and a new conscious capacity that is occupied with Christ knowing that He will never leave us or forsake us and that all things are of God.

With this information see if you can answer your own question!

Ps 63:1-8

1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.
4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:
6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.
7 Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.

Follow your mind, lead your heart.
The music that is now considered "cool" or popular is teaching people to follow their heart and go about your own ways, which is what the Devil, Satan, wants us to think.

He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered."
Prov. 28:26
