Someone said something on forgiving at another forum that I haven't really thought f before:

Forgiving doesn't have to mean that you free the person of their responsibility of what they did wrong, it simply means YOU don't hold them accountable for it. However, they will have to face God just like everyone else, for what they did, even if you forgave them.

YAAAHHH!!

by George I think he's got it ;)

Matthew 6
28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

Back to forgiveness:
Hebrews 10:30

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

30 For we know Him who said, “(A)VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY.” And again, “(B)THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE.”

If we decide to not forgive but manage what we judge others for we are taking on something very, very big. It is God's place to do that.

Matthew 6:15
But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions

whats interesting is that we have within us to do as He has asked us to forgive regardless, it all starts with a choice to forgive. As with all theology of theology it is so easy to forget the meat and stay on the milk thinking cause we know this that the other we are excused for not walking in His righteousness and can claim "defending the truth yada yada yada"in being just flat out rude,
as if,
how easy we can overlook scriptures that hold the gospel true to heart for each and everyone of us to do as He has asked, not forced us.
Have trouble forgiving? just acknowledge that to God and ask Him to assist, He is faithful to do it, question is are we willing to humble ourselves and do it His way and stand in His righteouseness or just come up with self justifying excuses why not to.

Sanctification is the process, better we humble ourselves than have God humble us, that can be a bit uncomfortable when He has to chastize us.

comes a time we need to get off the milk and chew on something solid

Col 3:12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender feelings of mercy, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering,
Col 3:13 forbearing one another and forgiving yourselves, if anyone has a complaint against any. As Christ forgave you, so also you do.
Col 3:14 And above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfectness.
Col 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which you also are called in one body, and be thankful.
Col 3:16 Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Col 3:17 And everything, whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.
It's not much of a choice, is it? The Lord Jesus forgives us of ALL of our atrocities. After we have recieved this forgiveness from HIM, how can we possibly get excited over our petty differences?
Before the Lord shows us what forgiveness is, we don't really know.
Before the Lord shows us what Love is, we don't really know.

God Bless You

The way I see it, Truth (the Word of God) really can hurt and offend people. Even our own flesh constantly tries to get ways to counter it and sneak away from it, because it is sharp on all creatures. If the Word of God causes bitter reactions from men, then so be it. What we are to be careful with is that we, our person, does not offend people or become stumbling blocks.

Good word.

to be totally honest...a handful of self appointed truth crusaders were responsible for that...two of them are now banned...

hopefully now we christians can use God's word for mutual encouragement and instruction instead of recklessly trying to commission it as a weapon for use against each other...

A hardy amen to that.

Hypothetically speaking, what good is spending countless hours studying doctrine / theology when it's obvious to everyone around you that the Lord does not dwell in your heart?

Blessing to you AnandaHya and all! To me forgiveness is just empty talk, when there are no deeds behind what we say.As most of you already know! Some do not even seek forgiveness because they do not believe the one they need forgiveness from will do it. They know Jesus will,so they just ask him.

But they have forgotten on very important point! ( Matt 18:21-35)
The act of saying please forgive me! If they then do not, then that becomes there problem not ours,as long as what we say we truly mean! And we know we do mean this by showing this to that person as well. Words mean so much to us as believers because we do not say things we do not mean,or we sure should not do that!!

There is to always be purpose in our words, meaning action associated with what we say. That is why we are believers! LOVE not only speaks, but shows, as does faith, and grace etc... ( james 1:22) We forgive because we ourselves need to be forgiven. We should give what we ourselves need. Can I judge another?? I can do this, but what right do I have in doing so?

I was not given Jesus in me to judge you,I was given Jesus in me to Reconcile us all to Christ! ( 2 Cor 5:18-21) To cause or to effect a thought to occur to each one of us of how we ourselves wish to also be treated. That to me is why words have purpose, and why I use them, to show Jesus is alive and not dead in me. Blessing all!!
