I understand the need to monitor the content, but I wonder if it could be some kind of clearance of members with good reputation so that they didn't have to wait for approval when posting threads. It will make the site more dynamic and easen the work load of the mods.

It can be so that the members approved have to sign or agree on certain terms of conduct before getting the final approval.

I asked that same question a month ago but no response. You are right, timely threads are more dynamic and keep the flow of the conversation going. If a thread has to wait too long before it's approved it may not be relevant anymore. To be fair though, the one thread I created since the new format only took 5 minutes to get approved but I love your idea that members of good reputation be trusted enough to waiver the requirement for approval. Besides, if that didn't work out then the waiver process could simply be scrapped and revert to a total approval process. It is a good idea that has merit especially for the long-time residents. Have the approval process for only new members that remains in place until certain criteria is established regarding their character and reputation.

The issue with 'good reputation' systems are determining what qualifies, and offending users that may feel they have been unfairly left out.
Also it creates an issue with new users wanting to know specific requirements, time, etc... and other conditions that users rarely ever are given the answer to, so it would remain a constantly asked question with no answer ever provided.

Though i wasn't even aware of this new requirement. I rarely create threads, so it's no surprise, but i Am surprised i haven't heard it mentioned sooner.

Still seems overkilled topics get approved, though, so yeah.

Since I don't have access to that part of the Admin controls I'm kind of taking a shot in the dark on this. It is entirely possible that new thread monitoring is an all or nothing sort of thing. In reality the bulk majority of new threads are approved but unfortunately it's the small minority that can create a nightmare on our end if they aren't caught prior to posting publicly. All it takes is a couple of hours where none of the staff are on site and suddenly there are 150 troll threads cramming up the forums (yes this has happened a couple of times in recent months).

I think an approval for thread posting is a good thing

we have all seen those spam threads and we don't need to see them anymore
