Do you know how to install and apply themes for Cinnamon 1.4? I'm still getting the hang of the Terminal.

Do you know the best way to manage the boot manager for a dual boot win 7 and linux system? I'm also installing Mint Linux.
I was using GRUB GNU and I had Ubuntu at first, but when i uninstalled ubuntu and installed Mint, GRUB decided to flop on me. Right now I just have my Win 7 Partition working.

Use the disk management tool in Windows to delete the partition with Ubuntu, then install Mint. That's what I did. :D

It won't recognize the file system, but it should list it as a logical partition. I used XP when I did this, because Linux Mint install failed (darn optical drive). I used the disk management snap-in in MMC to delete the partition, so it reverted back to free space. :D

Just us grub as your boot manager, it's probably the best. When you want to remove your linux install, rewrite the mbr using 'ms-sys' which is Linux program for writing a windows mbr

I also use Slackware. I started out (years ago) with SUSE. I have also used various 'flavors' of UNIX (at work).
:)

I can find my way around UNIX/LINUX pretty well -- and will be more than happy to offer assistance... (if, when, and as time is available)
:)

If you use Linux - and need help with it - please feel free to PM me if you believe I may be able to help you.

I do not mean to take anything away from the OP -- I just took this thread to be good for:

~ Folks who know something about Linux to offer help to those who might need or want it.
~ Folks who might like some help with Linux could become aware that it was available here.

So - if you know something about Linux and would be willing to help others -- speak up!
And - if you need help with Linux -- speak up!

OP - I did not mean to hijack your thread...

:)

This thread is the closest I could find to my issue. I, like many other members here, am having issues with the Flash upgrade. My original install of MS Windows XP Pro is hopelessly corrupted, so I have been using Knoppix, a version of Linux on live CD. I have tried many times and sought out many forums for advice as to how to upgrade my Flash, but I seem to be stuck with Version 9.x. Youtube is still useable, but barely. Today when I tried to enter chat, I got a query box about mic usage, but the system froze before I could click anything. Another attempt got me into the room, but then it froze again. I would be surprised if anyone could offer a fix to this, other than buying a new computer, but it would be cool if someone could.

Thanks :)

Attention Linux User's... Get-A-Round to getting flash to work. Step 1. right click in the chat room and go to global setting. 2. Look to the left and look for global security settings and click on that link. click on the web cam icon tab. 4. Then click on christianchat and highlight it. 5. Click on always allow and exit. This will allow the chat room to hear you and see you.

Hi Daddycat. :)

Rest assured, that even if your OS is corrupt, there is a fix for this - although it entails a format + reload of Windows. Unfortunately, it's hard for me to service your system through CC forums.

Why is it your Flash cannot be updated? If you're willing, I'd be able to connect to your PC remotely using a certain program to try to correct the Flash Player problem. But as for your OS; I'm afraid you will need to re-install Windows XP, unless you're using a PC with a good recovery partition, in which case you can use the built-in recovery to restore the computer to it's factory condition.

Feel free to PM me if you like!

How linux-savy are you?

I believe that the best you are prabably going to be able to do with the Live-CD is load the upgrade from a memory stick after booting up Knoppix.

(I have and use a Knoppix Live-CD disk, and I like it!)

If you have decided to and are anywhere close to installing a 'permanent' version of linux -- then, by all means, go ahead and do that - t will make a lot of things easier...

I have flash 10 (and it *does* work with the CC chat rooms). I have had problems with later flash versions on my system (Slackware Linux) - so I am not using any later versions at least until they come up with one that does not cause problems...

I know there are fixes.... But I'm afflicted with inertia :p

OK seriously now...

My original XP install (came with the system) I found out was pirated and not MS approved. So I don't have the thing on CD to reload into my memory. However, I did acquire (and I have no recollection how or when at this point) an official MS Windows XP disk. I tried to load it, following the instructions that came with it, but the CD Rom drive didn't recognize it. Or didn't like the taste of it. I don't know. All I know is it didn't work at all. Should have, didn't.

Of course if I could get XP up and running again I could update Flash no problem, as I always did before. With Knoppix, after much hunting on forums I was able to find a procedure for getting Flash 9 installed. There was no Flash at all on Knoppix startup. So I was able to work around that problem. But V9 is so outdated now that lots of stuff is starting to fail. I downloaded the appropriate V10 file and tried to do the same thing with it but it never works. So I stick with what works! (silly me)

So anyway, much ado (keystrokes) about nothing.

If this fills in the gaps I left out before, cool. If there are questions, hit me up with em.

Thanks,
DC
