AS a woman who does wear A head covering because I feel God has led me to cover. I also haev long hair. But I feel that if I have a covering on my hear be it a scarve etc. That It is a constant reminder of who I am and to be a Light in the world of darkness. It reminds me to be humble and Christ like to the world and it also remindes me that I am to be Submissive to my husband that GOD has blessed me with. Just my humble opnion.

without going over board on philosophical whatnot.
I would like to ask a simple question.
My girlfriend used to have long hair.
But, she cut it short now (the length of what a male hairstyle looked like).
I kinda like it.

Is that mean she's dishonoring God and therefore, should not enter the church?
Should she and I be punished?

Again, my question might sounds like a sarcasm.. but I can assure you it's not..
It's a legit question and I do want to know your thoughts about this.

Thanks.

Dodolah - not at all. Even men can have long hair if they want to. Samson did, God never complained about that. Men look at the outward appearance, God looks at the heart.

1 Corinthians 11:4-15
Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.

But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. For the man is not of the woman: but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels. Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God. Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?
Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

So I was wondering what everyones take on this is, do you believe women should wear a covering on their head out in public or not? If yes why? and if no why?

Lostinnarnia and I have discussed this and reached our decision on it, but we just wonder what others think.

If you pay attention to verse 8 it talks about how the man is not of the woman, but the woman is of the man.(talking about how God took and made a woman from the man, made Eve from a rib of Adams and all that).

Also probably the most important and key verse is 15, talking about a womans hair is her covering. Before that in verse 5 it talks about how it's a dishonor for a woman to not have long hair, or a head covering.

Basically the verses say that the man is the head of the household, the woman, etc. as is stated in many other books and verses in the Bible, and how all things belong to God. So the hair is the head covering for the woman, it doesn't mean that a woman should go and literally put some sort of covering on her head just to go out in public.

In fact, it says in verse 15 that for a woman to have long hair is GLORY. It's given for a cover.

So ok I'm done rambling about this now, just wondering others take on this topic/subject. This is just mean for discussion, not to cause any arguments or anything. Lets all respect one another and their beliefs.
If it was raining outside and the woman didn't cover her head would she be covered because she has hair?

If you will notice, I was asking...I wasn't saying for sure..so no need to get sarcastic or anything like that. Also, I already said before this needs to be considered "closed" as I'm tired of others arguing over it rather than giving their opinion on if it's to be taken literal or not. I'm not going to argue with you, as I've seen you argue on pretty much most of the threads on here.

Resisting the urge to post at length on the main topic, I feel the need to respond to so many people mentioning Sampson. Sampson is not proof that it was okay for man to have long hair. That would mean God contradicted himself since in this very passage God says that even nature teaches us that it is a shame for man to have long hair. As for Sampson. Read Numbers 6 about the nazarite vow. If a man wanted to take such a vow it involved a number of regulations but, in the context of this discussion, the most important part of the vow is in: verse 5 which states that during that vow you could not cut your hair, verse 9 which states that if he violated his vow, even if by accident, his head was to be shaved and start over, and verse 18 which states that at the end of his vow he again had his head shaved and his hair was offered as part of the burnt offering. In the case of Sampson, Judges 13:7 states that he would be a nazarite from the womb unto the day he died. His hair was not to be cut because he was a lifelong nazarite and had nothing to do with God approving long hair for all men. Why would God approve it for all men and then contradict himself by saying it is a shame for man to have long hair.

at Corinth, pagan temple PROSTITUTES shaved their heads (both male and female).
Paul is simply telling those who were newly converted, and any other women with very short hair that in order to SHUN even the very appearance of evil, COVER YOUR HEAD, and preferably grow your hair, as the hair is the glory of the woman.

covering a bald head covers the SHAME of the old life of prostitution.

rightly divide the Word (who is it speaking to? when was it written? what is the subject/object?)

Yeah, 'Stand-up', men love to argue and our pride makes us arrogant and deaf to other peoples arguments. We will bellow and scream because we are very passionate that what we as individuals believe is right. Try another posting about how men love to argue incessantly. Thanks for the posting though, it's an interesting topic.

For this cause ought the women to have power on her head because of the angels. 1 Corithians11:10

Now I heard Chuck Smith ( who I wouldn't recomend anyone to listen to) try to explain this verse and he said, " I wish Paul wouldn't have put that in there," because Chuck Smith didn't know what it meant. Now abviously that is put in there for a reason because the Bible says that all Scripture is given by inspiration of God. I mean abiously a women has more protection if she wears one. It says at the end that if any one be contious we have no such constoms, so right away poeple throw it out the window and say I don't agree with it so it don't matter.

I think that this has to do with the relationdship between the marriage and the church. Married women covered their heads to show submission to their husbands. The question was whether, when a woman prophesied in church they should remove their covering to show that the prophesy was not under the authority of their husbands. The answer was no, that God worked through the proper relationships of marriage not around them. I think that the modern equivilency would be if a woman was to remove her wedding ring when she prophesied in the church, indicating that during the time that she prophesied she was not under the authority of her husband.

*sigh* this is such an old thread, and it was never meant to offend or whatever. At the time, I had questions, I never said anything about men loving to argue and stuff....I respect everyone okay so lets just make sure we note that. Maybe my wording was off I dunno, this is so old....I was going through so many things then, and unclear about many things in the Bible then. Sorry you took it wrong...those whom did that is.
