Efl says:
I'm not sure I understand what you are asking. God isn't waiting on us. And the OP is not the type of "wait" you are thinking of I think.

Ok, if you are referring to "waiting" as in a waiter in a restaurant.........then........ok........

But the Scripture in the OP is very misleading then.........for it refers to "waiting" as a "time-thingy" and not a "service."

(just saying)

Oh, God is "waiting" on us just as the Scripture says..........in vs. 9) The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Anyway, it was a good OP..........

The word "longsuffering" in 2 Peter 3:9 does not mean God is "waiting on us". It basically means "patience" or "forebearance". It would mean God is delaying His final judgement. God isn't waiting for something He is holding something off.

Psal 37:4
Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
Delight is the secret to wait in the Lord, serving, praising, honoring Him works at perferction...Sometimes difficult, but works....:Dyeah...

Let me explain in an example what is meant by "wait upon the Lord":

Two people both need a job. Person one prays to God for a job, sits in his chair and waits for the phone to ring. Person two prays to God for a job and goes out and fills out applications. Person two then goes and fills out more applications while waiting for his phone to ring.

Who is actually "waiting on the Lord"?

Obviously person number two because he is actually doing his part. He is actually glorifying God because the Bible tells us in Proverbs 19:15 "laziness casts one into a deep sleep, And an idle person will suffer hunger.". If we don't act upon "waiting on the Lord" we suffer hunger and enter into a deep sleep.
i love you.

"He once kinda Shared with me He was expecting angels some decades back." He Might be Surprised they avoided full trampling of enemy millennia back.

Ty for a good inspiring OP. I do think that some of what "waiting on the Lord" means is: living in expectation of His working. I think we often jump on board with certain things that WE think are "good" or that we think are going to help the Kingdom, but we sometimes forget to inquire of the Lord. Saul is the perfect example of someone who didn't wait upon the Lord, when he went ahead with the ceremony without Samuel. He thought it was for the best, but was outside of the will of God. Elijah is a perfect example of someone waiting upon the Lord, when he went where he was told, and STAYED THERE until God told him another place to go. When we are "there" (read about Elijah to understand where "there" is) God blesses us. Faith in action is not always about charging ahead. Sometimes it takes more Faith to stay where we are and wait for Him to give us our next "there".
But when He tells us where to go or what to do, we have to act, or we are displaying a lack of faith in His command. We won't be blessed if we hang around after GOD tells us the next "there".

Also, waiting requires dependence. If you wait upon the Lord, then you are depending upon His action. Waiting upon the Lord is the same idea as depending upon God in all things. Our pride and rebellion tells us to be independent, but as the Bride of Christ, we are no longer our own. We are of His household, and (if God filed a tax return) we are written down as His dependents.

As mentioned in a couple posts back we get "confused" sometimes. We either jump ahead of God or we just do nothing. I think waiting on the Lord is the "happy medium". We are listening to God but we are also taking some action. It's a combination of "sitting" and waiting and "moving" and waiting. It requires both the quiet "wait" time in prayer and the "following" God where he leads.
