As some of you may already know, my lord and savior Jesus Christ has saved me from my sins and with this forgiveness, his will is what I'm striving to uphold. Far from perfect, I just listen as he whispers. I've been led to open this post to help me understand what the unforgivable sin might be.
I read some posts in another part of this site with many ideas of what the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit might be. I'm not a bible expert but have begun to read more often in the past few weeks. The reason I'm writing this is because of a book I read many years ago entitled "He Came to Set the Captives Free." This book tells of the spiritual world we cannot see but is fully surrounding us everyday. The story is of a very powerful witch (demonically possessed) who with the help of a Christian nurse was saved.
She tells of the amount of power she had and how she could use it. She attacked churches in spirit form and many other things. Now, if a woman such as this is forgivable, which she was forgiven, but the battle took a long time, what is the unforgivable sin?
One way to be unforgiven is to refrain from giving forgiveness. Is it possible to accept forgiveness from Christ and yet hold on to hatred or anger toward someone else for things committed against us? The king and the servant parable answers that question. With as much as the servant was forgiven, he would not forgive his fellow servant and once the king heard of this he was still cast into prison. Once again I'm not sure the exact bible references for this parable, maybe, someone could help me with that.
Now as far as the unforgivable sin goes, will the anti-Christ be the one who truly commits this sin? Doing signs and wonders while claiming to be Christ would instigate a true blasphemy of the Holy Spirit and those who take his mark will condemn themselves before God. For no one with his mark shall make the kingdom.
May God bless you, I love you as our Father has loved us all.

I honestly never thought about this before, but from what I have read and understood about God, is that he does forgive every sin. Even the one the AntiChrist makes. It doesn't mean that he will go to heaven though, but if he asks for Gods forgiveness, God will forgive him. Remember when Christ was Crucified, every sin upon him was laid. I believe that is who Christ is. I do believe every sin even this one will be forgiven if they only ask for it.

When someone accepts Jesus as their savior they are a new creation in Christ Jesus. Previous sins are washed away period! These sins are remembered no more so we need to rise above them with God's Help through the Holy Spirit that is then dwelling in us as a comforter and teacher. Does this mean we are no longer sinners? Yes in a sense. We still have a sin nature and we still commit sins. The word says that he who says he has no sin is deceiving himself ( or herself lol). Now.... where do we go from their. Well God 's desire is that we walk a straight path fully within his will. Who does this? Nobody. But if we have accepted Christ we find that some of the things we used to do we no longer feel comfortable doing. This is the Holy Spirit within us ministering to us. We may sometimes quench the spirit and when we do His voice will get softer and softer. In time we wake up and get back on track. "Sorry Father I screwed up" God is faithfull and just to his word and forgives us. Some make it sound as if one is heading straight to Hell if they step out of line. Amazingly enough teaching that was even with good intentions can be out of line itself. Living a life that is not pleasing to God does rob us from a life fiffled with the fruit of the Spirit ( see galatians 5) but will not send up to Hell even though we may experience hell on earth so to speak. The Unforgivabe sin? Yes, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Anyone who is still seeking God's face even though they may be a wretch I feel has not committed this unforgivable sin. Look at so many cases in the bible of those who walked away from God and/or his will and came back. Look at the guy in 1 Cor 5..what a mess. Look at David's life. Look at Peter... he was pretty bold until it came to the hardcore facts and then he rejected Jesus. Some say he probably still hates to hear roosters crow today if there are any in Heaven. God is real. Jesus is real and he is our advocate...The Holy Spirit is real and he is our comforter and teacher. Where sin abounds grace abounds much more. We are only perfected IN CHRIST!! Not by works but through his grace and love by faith. The enemy has been defeated as far as eternity goes and we have been set free from the law of sin and death. Death where is you sting? Th eenemy is sly and wants to drag us down by deception. Deception can only be deception if a lie and a truth is mixed. We as God's children have been born into Gods' family. Jesu sis our brother and friend. We do good works out of our love for Him and, yes,w e blow it sometimes. Paul said the good that he would do he does not and the things he would not do he does but it is no longer him that does it but the old nature within him. Any Christian concerned about committing the unforgivable sin has not comitted it. Cast down imaginations that try to exhalt themselves against the word of God. We are Chidren of the King and let no man nor spirit try top tell us differently. Th ewar has been won...IT IS FINISHED.!!!

I agree with Passinthru, if you have your sins forgiven you are saved... What separates us from God is our sins, so when Christ used his blood to atone for us, and we call upon Him for forgiveness we are bought and payed for...

As for Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, it might be as simple as defining the words... And reading not just the verse but the verse before and after...
Blasphemy: the act or offense of speaking sacrilegiously about God or sacred things; profane talk.
Matthew 3:28-30
28 Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.”
30 He said this because they were saying, “He has an impure spirit.

Matthew 12:30-32
30 “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. 31 And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

The unforgivable sin would be rejecting Jesus atonement for us. Those who recieve the mark of the beast will have already rejected Jesus.

I agree with this post. The other part of this is that they saw all of the Godhead working, in Christ, and attributed ALL of God to Satan. They were in the presence of Christ Himself, who ONLY did what His Father in Heaven willed, and did all of these things through the power of the Holy Spirit. It is ONLY in this circumstance that it is said that THESE particular people in THIS exact circumstance, IN THE VERY PRESENCE OF ALL OF GOD WORKING IN FRONT OF THEM, attributed God Himself to be Satanic. There is no coming back from that.

The upside is that there is no possible way for ANYONE to ever be in that circumstance again until Christ returns, but then, instead of having emptied Himself(retained nothing) and having become man, Christ will come with all of His power intact.

Just out of curiosity, what do you believe the answer is? The only reason I ask, is because many things can be interpreted from many different views. When I don't understand something the bible has presented, I seek God for the answer. I trust that He will make sense of it for me. I could share my interpretation, but I've learned that by doing so, interpretation is open for debate. Always keep that in mind when seeking His answer to your question by other humans.

Hope this helps? Be blessed. He will give you the understanding you need at the right time.

Wrong you can reject Jesus and be forgiven, however you cannot reject the Holy Spirit as many churches teach, To reject the Holy Spirit is signing your own hell ticket.

Let me give you an example first. There are two guys talking at an AA meeting, waiting for it start. One guy says to the other, "I have been sober for one year now, I really think I can quit for good this time." And the other guy says, "I'm just doing this for some court deal, I hate being here, and I have no intention of quitting, I'll drink whenever I feel like it."

Now what is the whole purpose of the AA meeting? To quit the sin of getting drunk, right? The first guy was there because he genuinely wants to quit. The second guy grieved being there and the purpose of being there, he just wanted the benefit. Some people come to church because they don't want to go to hell, but they grieve being there and the purpose of it. They don't want to be holy and good, they have no intention of trying to rid their life of sin. This is grieving the Holy Spirit.

And since this is a spiritual thing, you have to want to be spiritually clean and holy, if you don't want that, and God will not allow evil into heaven, it will never work, and is therefore an unforgivable sin. How can someone who hates holiness and the Holy Spirit live eternally with the Holy Spirit? If you hate what is holy, how can you be made holy? To want to remain in evil is unforgivable. This is far different from someone who is trying to quit sinning but fails here and there. It really comes down to intention.

Yes it is the intention, many get baptised thinking that they are okay. because that's what the preacher says, get your head dunked and you can steal rob and cheat on your wife, but hey I have been baptised.

It is impossible for a true Christian to blaspheme the Holy Spirit! Here is how you know. While Jesus was casting demons out of a blind and dumb man, He told the surrounding crowd about that unforgivable sin . . .

Matthew 12:31-32 "Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come."

Mark 3:28-29 "Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation."

Notice that ALL sins except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit are forgivable. Then John the Baptist tells us about another unforgivable sin . ..

John 3:36 "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."

So someone who refuses to believe in the Lord Jesus will never be forgiven!

But wait a second, isn't blasphemy against the Holy Spirit the only unforgivable sin? That is what the Bible says, so a final rejection of the Lord Jesus and blasphemy against the Holy Spirit have to be the same sin or there would be TWO sins for which man would not be forgiven and there is only one!

No one comes to Jesus through his own volition. God the Father, through His Spirit, draws us to His Son (John 6:44, John 12:32). The Holy Spirit then witnesses in our hearts that Jesus is the Son of God, to the point that we absolutely know it to be true down into our innermost being. If we stand against the Holy Spirit’s irrefutable witness, we knew we are turning against the truth. That is what happened to those Pharisees. Jesus was standing before them casting out demons. Meanwhile the Holy Spirit was witnessing in their hearts, saying:

Matthew 17:5 "This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him."

The Pharisees knew Jesus was the Christ from the Holy Spirit's witness in their hearts. When they spoke against the Holy Spirit’s irrefutable witness they were calling the Holy Spirit a liar. In so doing, they blasphemed the Holy Spirit. The unforgivable sin is rejection of the irrefutable witness of the Holy Spirit in our hearts by which we know without question that Jesus is the Christ.

In the Islamic Dome of the Rock (on the temple mount in Jerusalem), is a major inscription in Arabic that reads: "God forbid that he should have a son." That declaration is also in the Koran. So here is the question: Did the prophet of Islam commit blasphemy against the Holy Spirit? The answer is obvious and the Bible says his fate and the fate of his followers will be . . .

Revelation 14:9-11 "If any man worship the (Leopard-Bear-Lion Islamic beast) beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb."

Revelation 19:20 "And the beast (Islam) was taken, and with him the false prophet (Muhammad) that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast (666), and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone."

That God has no son is a major tenet of Islam and there are 1.6 billion people in that false religion today. We need to pray for Moslems. If they don’t turn to the Lord, their fate is a spiritual tragedy of unimaginable proportions.

How the above verses apply to Islam is explained in the book, "Islam in the End Times," downloadable free from www.ellisskolfield.com. For more details on testing spirits, read "The Shining Man with Hurt Hands," another free download from the same site.

The Bible is very clear that there is no salvation except through Yeshua the Messiah. If we reject Him we will not enter eternal life, but you are right that we can repent from that. Sin against the Holy Spirit as I understand is to reject the teaching of the Spirit and put our own “human spin” on it. That is why so many churches are in trouble today. The flesh is winning the war against the spirit and that is sinning against the Holy Spirit.
