Proverbs 9:12 - If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, And if you scoff you alone will bear it.

Hope that we can include Ecclesiastes here, because it is also proverbs of wisdom, technically?

death-burial-resurrection.png

Ecclesiastes 7:1 A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth.
Ecclesiastes 7:11 Wisdom is good with an inheritance: and by it there is profit to them that see the sun.
Ecclesiastes 7:12 For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.

Gospel of Solomon? :D

Proverbs 31:10-31New Living Translation (NLT)

A Wife of Noble Character

10 [a]Who can find a virtuous and capable wife?
She is more precious than rubies.
11 Her husband can trust her,
and she will greatly enrich his life.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.

I'm in a Bible study on FB and right now we are studying Proverbs, chapter by chapter. I am discovering so many gems, and I'll bet there are many here who have verses they love from Proverbs which have influenced their lives.

Here was my verse for today!

Prov. 18:2 "A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion."
Having walked down this road, my prayer is that each day, I walk away from opinion and foolishness, towards Christ and his wisdom!"

I would love for people to share some wisdom they have gleaned from Proverbs. It doesn't have to be long, maybe a testimony, or a few words of insight.
OH! (Smiles with delight) I look forward to going through this thread ... I love proverbs :D

One that came to mind begat from the one you posted above is PROVERBS 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.

"It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife,
but every fool will be quarreling." Prov. 20:2

This seems like almost a warning for this forum. I try to avoid quarreling more and more these days, although sometimes I do get drawn into the fray.
A similar Proverb that helps to direct my footsteps here is this one ...

Prov 21:9
"It is better to live in a corner of the housetop
than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife."

So ... tsk ... yeah ...lol. Don't leave the website (house) ... just change location in the house (thread) :D

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
fools despise wisdom and instruction. Prov 1:7

It ought to be impossible for any Christian not to "like" a proverb, no matter how much it hurts the flesh.
Proverbs 14:30 (KJV) [SUP]30 [/SUP] A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.
That is a very cool proverb ...

It reminds me that we are born with a heart of envy (original sin) and ergo the perishing body.

It reminds me also of the grace of God which granted us a new spirit and heart (a sound heart) of flesh (where God abides) that promises life.

"The reward for humility and fear of the Lord
is riches and honor and life" Prov. 22:4

Is this applicable to New Testament believers? There are so many in countries being persecuted for being Christians, far from riches, honor and even life. Or perhaps it is speaking of metaphorical riches, honor and life? The blessings of being "in Christ?"
HEB 12 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Let us look beyond this short and perishing life towards the riches, honor and life that await us in heaven or his new kingdom.

As Paul said ... if Christ only died and did not rise again then how pathetic we all are! But since he did rise again to be with God in his kingdom, so will we have the same.

In my fathers house are many mansions ...
If I go to prepare a place for you, then I will come again that you may be where I am ...

This life is OUR cross to bear

i have kind of a different view on proverbs from many christians apparently...i don't see its wisdom as all that profound...and i don't think it was -intended- to be especially profound...

when i was reading proverbs i had trouble with the fact that the vast majority of it is simply common sense that everyone should already know...

then i paid attention to how many times proverbs refers to a parent instructing a child...and i realized that solomon's intention was actually to write a book for instructing children and young people on the -basics- of wisdom...it was designed as a guide for teaching your children common sense...

so solomon really never intended for it to be a 'best of' collection of his most wise sayings...instead it was more like 'wisdom 101' or 'wisdom for dummies'

the fact that proverbs seems profound to many people nowdays really says less about the book and more about how 'common sense isn't common' any more...
I see this differently ...

The word is alive!

To the babe in Christ a verse will be milk ...
To the mature Christian that same verse will be meat.

A favorite of mine from Proverbs.......

Pro 30:4
Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?

When i hit a rough patch in my life i would listen to proverbs on audio and walk on the treadmill every evening at the local gym .

Truly a proverb I have learned a lot about here ... every time I get in between two people I always regret it ... done with the best intentions it is still unwise. Lean NOT on your own understanding ... There is a way that SEEMS right to man ... Jesus said "who made me mediator between men?" ... nods ... He understood the wisdom of that proverb well.

Do not answer a fool according to his folly,
Or you will also be like him.

Answer a fool as his folly deserves,
That he not be wise in his own eyes. (Prov 26:4-5)
