The spiritual meaning behind this passage is that the things God told the Jews were unclean, He has now made clean.

This also includes Gentiles as Jews were in the old covenant forbidden to go out and associate with Gentiles as we were considered unclean as well. The Lord our God made all the unclean things clean under one new better covenant of grace.

I see! :D

Well, this puzzles me, I must confess, because chicken is far from being clean...! And rabbits (not hare) puzzle me too...!

I can understand, however, that pig is not a healthy meat to eat. But chicken is not much better than it, in terms of "cleanness"...

I know a lot of people with the same thoughts on chickens. I used to raise them. Had 70 at one time.
I used to know a guy that raised rabbits to eat, he was from Germany.

The process today our quite different than a few decades ago. But hey to each there own.

Here is the only restrictions in eating under the new covenant:

Acts 15:20
But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, andfrom fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

1 Corinthians 10:28
But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof:

Hebrews 13:9
Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

1 Corinthians 8:8
But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.

I posted #17 not to undo what God has done but to show the wisdom of God.

It has been suggested that the tribes of Israel were always wandering and camping out for extended period of time. The Lord in his wisdom knew that that could not or would not clean or properly prepare the foods
That they would encounter on there journeys so instead of a itemized cook book the Lord in his wisdom set a standard by physical identification.
Notice that this law had been lifted once Israel was stable and settled.

In fact, the way chicken are "raised" today is not the best one, I believe...! In terms of health, I say.

As distasteful as it may seem (pun intended) humans are likened unto animals in the Bible especially when we are seeing what is clean and unclean depending on the sacrifice. We must relate all things with the spirit, and not carnal only! Fins and scales, split hooves and cuds all have spiritual meaning, so in truth, Acts 10 correlates with the spiritual condition of Cornelius's heart toward God. I was thinking about this thread in the last hour, and it was as if God was telling me that the rhetoric of numerous posts concerning physical animals, and discussing the carnal aspects thereof is quite displeasing to God Almighty. Romans 12:1

>>>All I want is to do God´s will, as I´ve been avoiding pork, etc. However, these verses and others through the NT seem to point that dietetic laws no longer apply. <<<

You are not doing anything wrong per se. You are growing in understanding and that is GOOD! The dietary laws were given specifically for instruction of being PURE and HOLY... the implication is to be free of food born disease... Eg., shellfish=red tide toxicity.

God didn't give a health science class about bacteria, virus and parasites because there was no "technology basis" there... yet we can trace a myriad of currently KNOWN scientific truths back to the scriptures... eg., shellfish=ted tide toxicity.

It is my firm conviction that in the current TIMES... the majority of "good" food available for hundreds of years.. is now being systematically polluted and endangering our health via "modern technology"... because men think they are smarter than GOD.

"And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood. And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth." Revelation 12:15-16

Octopus have no scales. All scavenger and predatory birds were unclean. Chickens are scavengers so I wonder why chickens were considered clean.
Chickens are not "scavengers" they are "foragers" which "range about" to forage for food. Scavengers are specifically CARION EATERS such as vultures, eagles, magpies... etc.

>>>>>....guess what these practices were adopted and still are used today..............gods wisdom who knew.<<<<

EXACTLY... gets kinda tiresome how people hold to "god just arbitrarily forbade such and such has no relevance today... we have the new covenant!!!":(

Chickens will also feed on dead animals. I have even watched them eat the afterbirth of calves.

Hermit, Afterbirth is NOT carion... yes I have seen chickens do this too... IN THE BARNYARD... they will pick the amnion gel and bits of placenta off newborn calves and kids if the Momma will let them... which is rich protein. Certain breeds are also very aggressive "mousers"... and I imagine you might have witnessed that also. Chickens are OMNIVORES whose primary diet is bugs/grass/grain ... with a ranging forager feeding habit. They are not Birds of PREY or CARION eaters... which are specifically CARNIVORES the taxonomy is very specific both scientifically and scripturally.

Ah, ok. well, that explains a lot. I had just always assumed they were of the scavenger variety. I guess I was wrong. That certainly clears up why they would not be considered unclean. Thanks for the clarification.
