I'm 19, I've been raised to be a Christian
Hi, JesusxIsxAlive - I've not read any other responses cos I don't want to find myself answering or commenting on anything that's been posted.

First, a lot of believers struggle with addiction. And I don't just mean the biggies ('biggies' that we put at the top of our lists like smoking or getting drunk) - what you experience in one sense is not anything new, but neither is it to be ignored. Some problems God heals instantly, others find release only with time, others are battles we continue until the day of our death.

Part of staying free from addiction is staying away from the temptation - and you may need believers to help you to do that. You may need to sit down and be counselled (but, in my own experience, that is less likely to help). Sometimes our bodies crave stuff and we struggle with it all our lives.

I could write here 'Stop doing it!' or 'Show some will power!' but you and I both know that sometimes it's as if we're in a channel that we can't get out of. But, although we may fail, we must keep trying, keep striving to do what's right, keep getting people to pray with us and for us to make some different choices.

In my early years (being so old, I am quite dead to a lot of the old stuff), I found that activity for God helped me not to slip back into my old ways.

Now, are you saved? If you died tonight, would you be with the Lord? I have never subscribed to 'Once Saved, Always Saved' (if you know what that is) - I've seen too many make a shipwreck of other people's salvation with it. But neither can you lose your salvation.

If you continue to be striving to follow God, no matter what mistakes you make and addictions you stumble over, you are still with Christ. It *is* important that you continue to strive to follow Him, though - and that's the only thing I want to bring to your attention. Continue to follow Him and, as I've said above, try to be wise as to how you can stay away from those things that would make you stumble.

'All that the Father gives to Me will come to Me, and him who comes to Me I will in no wise cast out. For I am come down from Heaven not to do my own will, but the will of Him Who sent
Me. And this is the will of Him Who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the Last Day,' (John 6.37-39)

'Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, so that you come behind in no gift, waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will also confirm you unto the end, that you might be unreproveable in the Day of our Lord Jesus Christ.' (1 Corinth 1.6-8). (and this the corinthian church!)

'Being confident of this very thing, that he which has begun a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ' (Phil 2.6).

'Who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our doings, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.' (2 Tim 1.9)

He has perfected for ever those who are being sanctified (Heb 10.14)

Lets just say this.. Yes God is powerful and can do all.. You need to work with him because you have freedom of choice. Faith with out works is dead the bible say that.. So if you have faith that you will go to heaven and you work on trusting praying obeying God and fasting etc. Then you will be good..

Eg. If your teacher said hey I give you all the answers study and you will get 100%, but you just have faith you will pass with out the answers, and never studied and you don't know what's on the exam you can't expect a 100%.

9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men[a]10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

But here is the good news of the Gospel in one beautiful verse.

11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Looks like they had a change of identities!....they were at one time called these other types of people..

.BUT now in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of God.....now they are called sanctified ones.....washed ones...justified ( declared righteous ) ones......what a great salvation we have in the Lord Jesus.....:)

I think far too much emphasis is laid on freedom of choice. God is able to make us choose Him with no difficulty, Indeed why else do we choose Him?

But brother, what about in Matthew? I've always been worried that applies to me

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

hiya, sweet pea :)

i just wanted to call your attention to what the Lord Jesus said there...
notice He tells these people "I never knew you".

not 'I knew you once but then your behavior caused Me to become displeased so you're out'.

i am praying that will bring you some measure of comfort and assurance. ♥

If you are worried about something, ask the Lord about it.

Ask again and again. And again. Until you know the answer.

Luke 18:1-7
[SUP]1[/SUP]And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
[SUP]2 [/SUP]Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
[SUP]3 [/SUP]And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?

Hello beautiful ones,

I'm still on milk trying to get to meat and I'm actually crying typing this because I've asked this question so many times to so many people over a period of years and I feel like I'm doomed and forever trapped in my own mind so I'm sorry for the rambling:

I'm 19, I've been raised to be a Christian, I'm not sure how old I was but I think between 14-17 I became born again and accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord, Saviour and one true God and have been water baptised BUT I have a problem with addiction, backsliding over and over again and then confessing over and over again, and I slip back into my old ways... I pray to God to soften my heart so I can stop being so sinful, I pray for God to help me because every time I say sorry to God, I can't FEEL the apology within me and I'm aware of this so I'm scared that I haven't been forgiven. When I call Him, I know He hears but it's as if He doesn't want me to go to Heaven because He doesn't help me to stop sinning. I KNOW this is not the case and it's all on my part and I feel ridiculous for even typing that, but I'm SO confused in this walk that I have no idea what conclusion to come to.

If I (God forbid) die today, will I go to His kingdom or to hell? I don't know what to do anymore, I just want to WANT to praise God and have Him be a big part of my life and not sin and it's so hard because it's like I can feel God calling me and calling me every day of my life but I can't reach Him and I can't reach Jesus. I have maybe 1% of mental clarity and the rest of the time I'm on autopilot so it's hard for me to actually think.

Thank you all and Jesus bless you!

The fact that you acknowledge your sins and want to stop them shows you are part of the body of Christ and walking the right path.

Nobody is going to hell who is still continuing to struggle with giving up certain sins, it is only if you continue to do those things willingly with no intent to want to stop that should worry you.

That however is not the case with you as you have mentioned how you want to stop but still struggle, and Apostle John in 1 John 5 talks about this exact situation. He is speaking there of sins that don't lead to death are those that have been repented of, and confessed sins a person still struggling with to stop.

Matthew 7:21-23 please do not listen to the responses that these people trusted in their works to save them........

That is a bad rendering of that passage as it says nothing along that line, a person would have to read into that passage to come away with that, and it also is not against works being done as of works of the faith.

Why Jesus told these to go away "He never knew them" is because these people thought they could serve Him and continue to serve their deliberate sinful lifestyles as well.

In other words they had no intention to give up their old self (sinful deeds), they tried to serve to masters which Jesus says can not be done.

The reason why think this has to do with trusting in works instead of Jesus is because of verse 22, but the point is these people are pleading with the Lord, not trying to earn salvation by works.

They were wondering why they were being sent away since they served Him, and Jesus gives them the answer and He does not say because they trusted in their works. He said they continued to work iniquity, which is the same as continued to be deliberately sinful !!!

Keep moving forward asking for His strength to overcome your issues, and surround yourself with others who can be strong in helping you as well !!!

1 Corinthians 3 explains a man's work being burned, but he himself was saved. Works mean nothing for salvation, only rewards at the Judgment Seat of Christ.

First, you're quite correct.

However :))), if you look at the context, the foundation that has been laid that Paul is talking about is the foundation of Christ in the fellowship in the area. Paul seems to be saying more that we should be careful how we build upon the foundation of Christ amongst the believers in the place we meet together.

But the principle does hold true for individuals, I believe, even if a secondary application.

You are right to an extent as works do not earn salvation, but the works a person does is proof they are saved and abiding in Christ.

1 Corinthians 3 that you bring up if you notice the works mentioned are those that build on the foundation of Christ, meaning these are works of the faith or faithful servitude.

These are not works of the flesh !!!

You can not build on the foundation of Christ with sins, that in the Word of God is called trampling on Him underfoot.

A person who is a faithful believer but does not do much besides be a standard congregation member is not going to receive many rewards if any, however those who accept the calling to be full time ministers and/or evangelists will receive many rewards.

Verse 17 is where works of flesh (sinful actions) are brought into the equation and given a strict warning !!!

This passage is a reference to the Judgment Seat of Christ. We will be judged on what we did once we got the foundation settled. My sin will never be accounted for here. See 2 Cor. 5:6-10.

The man's work was burned up because he did nothing to build upon the foundation. Praise God that the foundation is secure!

Jesus "never knew them"....they weren't sheep..unless they turn into goats ( when they do sin like I think sin is )..then back to sheep ( when they don't sin like I do )..then back to goats again

I have two thoughts. The first is that "we walk by faith, not by sight." When we die and we stand before the holy, holy, holy GOD, we will tremblingly trust only that Jesus' sacrifice to remove our sins was truly sufficient!

Do you "fear" God? In Deuteronomy 10:12 it says, "And now Israel, what does the LORD your God require from you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, and to love Him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the LORD's commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today for your good?"

Jesus said we're not to fear man who can only kill us and then can't do anything more, but that we are to fear God who after He kills us, has authority to cast us into hell. So: Do you fear the Lord? Then walk by faith in what Jesus did for you on the Cross, and trust Him with your eternal destiny.

The other thought is: RUN from sin!! Get away, separate yourself from whatever it is, whether it is sexual, drugs or alcohol, get away from them. If you have to move, move. If you have to break relationships, break them. Get away from your old connections and make new connections with the committed Jesus followers.

When Jesus said that if your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you, He was teaching us to be RADICAL in our struggle against sin in our lives. Do whatever He shows you to do, and follow Him with all your heart and soul, for He shed every drop of His blood and suffered horribly for you, so that you can live for righteousness.

He loves you with all His heart.

You pretty much said the same thing I said as this can not be sin (works of the flesh) mentioned because it is talking about building on the foundation of Christ.

The only way to build on that foundation is by the works in the faith we do, faithful servitude..........

As for your claim though about sin you are also correct if you are talking about repented of and/or confessed sins that you may have stopped or even still struggled with even though you wanted to stop.

However verse 17 speaks of the continuing to deliberately be sinful, as verse 17 is a parallel to Hebrews 10:26-27 !!!

This is what Jesus was saying by "He never knew them", as they denied Him before men by continuing to live deliberate sinful lifestyles....................Thus He denied them !!!
