It is not true that Jesus is the only teacher. In fact, there are many words and many occurrences of the words teacher (59 times), teaching (51 times) and "I teach" (97 times) for a total of 207 times in the New Testament. For example, none of these passages are about Jesus, but rather those who are called to teach:

"Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body." James 3:1-2
To teach or not to teach? That is the question:

Hebrews 5:12 ¶ For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
Hebrews 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
Hebrews 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

My feeling is we are responsible because to whom much is given, much more is required.

James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

If I can make the world a little better by teaching, shouldn't I do some good or should I self preserve myself by not being many teachers?

Jesus said the answer to that, I believe:

Matthew 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

Yes, we will be held to a higher standard and judged.

The one doctrine that Walter Martin held is that Jesus wasn't eternally the son of God which is a teaching that I have a problem with.

Eternal Sonship of Jesus | Theopedia
He believed each person of the Trinity was eternal (wished the article would make that clear) but it looks like according to his quote he did not see an eternal Father-Son relationship...just a relationship between the three Persons.
Good people have sided on both sides of that aisle. I favor the eternal Father/Son relationship.

I think it's the Holy Spirit inside of us that teaches us all things but we open our mouths to speak His words..( well..that's the intent anyway )....and there is the ministry gift that the Lord has given to us in the body of Christ...and one of them is a teacher...they have a special anointing to teach...sometimes just on certain subjects...but the anointing inside of us is the real one that teaches us all things...

The ultimate teacher is the Holy Spirit but He works through others to get the truth that is in us to come to our minds. He bears witness to the truth when spoken inside of us.

1 John 2:20 (KJV)
[SUP]20 [/SUP] But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

1 John 2:27 (NASB)
[SUP]27 [/SUP] As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.

There are thousands upon thousands of preachers who faithfully preach the word, week in week out.
And 1000's and 1000's who teach/preach, half truths and down right lies! :p

But if Jesus said we aren't teachers, we aren't teachers.
READ the context:

Matthew 23:1-12 (KJV)
[SUP]1 [/SUP]Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, [SUP]2 [/SUP]Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: [SUP]3 [/SUP]All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. [SUP]4 [/SUP]For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. [SUP]5 [/SUP]But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, [SUP]6 [/SUP]And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, [SUP]7 [/SUP]And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. [SUP]8 [/SUP]But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. [SUP]9 [/SUP]And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. [SUP]10 [/SUP]Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. [SUP]11 [/SUP]But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. [SUP]12 [/SUP]And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

The topic wasn't BEING TEACHERS, but LOVING TO BE CALLED BY THE "TITLE" TEACHER.

Teach as a servant of God, not as a pompous titled master teacher, believing you're better than others.

It's sad what people will do to get outta being a obedient servant. No wonder there's so much spiritual ignorance in the church.

It helps further to study His Word

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness,
(2Ti 2:15-16)

Beth moore came here 10+ yrs ago, so we did make it to an event where she was speaking in Manila. Recently however, there have been ppl questioning her writings and teachings like her predicting uniting sectors in Christendom, and knowing Christ by 'romancing' Him.. This is just one such review of false claims explained... there are also those sayng she is adorable but dangerous.

Jesus' deciples too argued who of them was the greatest.
In response Jesus washed their feet. Teaching them humility.

And even then each one of them betrayed him.

The greatest teacher ever, Jesus', was the most loving, most humble, most righteous. Jehovah himself resurrected him as our king for a given period of time.

I'll definitely put them on my list. Thank you. I purposely avoid the windbags like John Hagee, Joel Osteen, etc. because they strike me as narcissists who are more concerned with their "mega church" being filled up like a concert than they are preaching a good message. They seem very theatrical and fake to me. Again, JMHO.

Can you give me he chapter and verse?
Eph 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

Enough said. Gifts from God to His church.

Too many claim the gift but God does not confirm it in them. Self appointed to the ministry and self appointed teachers. A recipe for disaster.

You got your own verse with the context from me, isn't that enough? IDT 20 scriptures would appease you anyway, you got yer mind made up.
You can’t use Scripture to contradict the words of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ says we are not to call ourselves teachers (Matt 23:8). We all teach a little, but we are not teachers.

That is not the reference pertaining to the topic. The verse you are thinking of means "masters" and it uses the word "not many".

King James Bible
My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
James 3:1 Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.

It could possibly mean "of the teachers of the Jewish religion".

Are you worried about condemnation? It is actually a mistranslation that means "judgment".

Romans 8:1 ¶ There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

I would argue the other way. You are burying your talents in the sand which you will be judged for if you don't:

Matthew 25:25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.
Matthew 25:26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:
Matthew 25:27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.
Matthew 25:28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents

I think people who don't want to teach are burying their talents.

I also think they are avoiding this verse:

Hebrews 5:12 ¶ For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

You are also not where you should be in the Christian life:

Hebrews 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

If you don't teach, you haven't grown up.

Save the "Don't teach" verses for the heretics, the confused and the babes.
