"Not all who cry out Lord lord"...."Whoever calls on the name of the Lord.."

How do you reconcile these verses?

Matthew 7:21 states:"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.

and

Romans 10:13

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

I'm not trying to stir up trouble. I just don't understand.

To those same people he also says "I never knew you" ... because the will of God is that we believe on His son Jesus Christ as our atonement. So believe in Jesus as savior and you will be doing the will of God and He will know you.

Re: "Not all who cry out Lord lord"...."Whoever calls on the name of the Lord.."

Jesus did the "will of God"...and delivered us from this present evil world

Galatians 1:4 (KJV)
[SUP]4 [/SUP] Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:

It is God in us that gives us the will and the ability to do His will.

Philippians 2:13 (NASB)
[SUP]13 [/SUP]
for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

The Will of the Father is to believe on Jesus.

1 John 3:23-24 (NASB)
[SUP]23[/SUP] This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us.

[SUP]24 [/SUP] The one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. We know by this that He abides in us,
by the Spirit whom He has given us.

The good works we do are from "being in Christ"..being led by the Holy Spirit. Notice God has prepared them for us. We walk them out as we live our lives dependent on Him.

Ephesians 2:8-10 (NASB)
[SUP]8 [/SUP] For by grace you have been
saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
[SUP]9 [/SUP] not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Because it's lip service and no true intention. Just like getting baptized in water and thinking that your okay. But in reality your heart has not changed, that's why it's called being born again. Your whole life changes and the sins you once enjoyed now disgust you. Water can't do that only by faith in the work of the cross is this possible.

By what basis do you become a Christian?
From joining a church? From signing a church roll? From being baptized or from believing in your heart that Jesus is Lord?
Don't worry. You aren't trying but this post will be pages long before it is retired.

As with most of the Bible, you cannot "cherry-pick" verses. Go back to the beginning of Chapter 7 of Matthew and start reading there.

Then go to Chapter 25, of the same book (same letter) and read about the sheep and goats.

It is all one letter, and it was never intended to be read as we try to read it, verse-by-verse, attempting to make a selected verse taken somewhere out of the middle of the letter, stand all on its own as some kind of a profound proclamation.

If you want to read the Bible a little more correctly (though STILL not chronically correct) go find a copy of THE FLAT BIBLE. It will make arguing with people here more difficult because The Flat Bible contains no breakdown into the chapters and verses we have come to love in our "shortcut reading", but it will help you focus on the entire intent of each writer.

It must be read in content as with any other document you can't read half and surmise the whole.

Yeah, Man! Why is it that this is only common sense with anything else we read, but we just can't seem to grasp the concept when it comes to the Bible?

Because people will pick and choose what they want to believe and what they have been taught since knee high to a grasshopper. But, what it really boils down to is that man wants to be his own God.

I'm not trying to stir up trouble. I just don't understand.
There is only one difference between the two verses, the leading of the Holy Spirit, and not allowing the Spirit to lead them.

Those who claim Christ, and allow the Spirit to lead them, will do what God requires of them, pleasing God,and show the characteristics of the Spirit, which then they are not under the law, which means that the law cannot touch them for prosecution.

Those who claim Christ, but do not allow the Spirit to lead them, wanting the flesh to be in control, will not please God,for they that are in the flesh cannot please God,and will not show the characteristics of the Spirit,so they are under the law,and the law can touch them for prosecution, and they are not doing the will of the Father.

Which the Bible says they have a form of godliness;but deny the power thereof, and are ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth, and lovers of pleasures, more than lovers of God.

The Bible says those that name, the name of Christ, must depart from iniquity, but all people that claim Christ,do not do this,so to call upon the name of the Lord,is also to allow the Spirit to lead them, doing the will of the Father.

That is the difference, allowing the Spirit to lead them, and denying the Spirit to lead them, which the parable of the ten virgins is an example, that 5 made it in the resurrection, and 5 did not, because the 5 that made it,had oil in their vessels, with their lamps, which means they were led of the Spirit, with the Spirit teaching them the word of God,and 5 did not have the oil,for they denied the Spirit leading them.

All who call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved, but that also means allowing the Spirit to lead them, and departing from iniquity, which all people do not do.

YES.

Thank you.

"'You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.' And, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"

That sums up the entire law and everything the prophets worked to accomplish. Personally, i fall back on this verse a lot - this concept makes the law very, very easy to understand.
