Could be the Quran, the Torah... but it's not my place to say which is more important; to me, they are on even ground.
But you've inspired me to ask: what is it that led you to exalt the Bible as the religious text of all-encompassing importance? Have you found irrefutable proof of God's existence? Or were you taught by somebody you trust?
Hi SkepticalCynic
So what are you skeptical?
Or cynical?
I'm willing to speak to the skeptical
But I'm not willing to speak to the cynical.
Could one be both?? I've never considered this. I don't think so. I think you have to choose.
Also, I don't think you mean the Torah, which is the first 5 books of the bible. I think you mean
the Tanakh, which would include the books of the Old Testament which are also accepted by Christians.
Your questions are very interesting. But, but by no means original. Every skeptic person wonders if Christians believe in their heart or if they're just following somebody's laws and rules. Maybe of a person, may a church.
Now, if you want to have a serious discussion, I'm willing - if you're here just to by cynical, then I'm not willing.
I'll say this quickly. People hear about God somehow. Maybe from going to church when they were little. Maybe from someone who spoke to them about God. So they have this "concept" of God. Thing is, at some point in life, one must have to decide whether or not 1) God exists 2) How to find that God.
To you all the books are on equal ground. I do not accept this. The Old Testament (Jewish) is good. The New Testament (Christian) is good. I consider the writings of Krishna as collected by Baha u llah to be of some worth. But, of course, Krishna did not say he was God, as Jesus did.
As for Muhammad, he was a man and a violent one at that. The Quran was written 700 years after Jesus died. Islam does not worship God but worships Muhammad, a man. Anyone reading this book will know immediately that it is a religion of man and goes against God and the Natural Law.
The Old Testament is valid because it shows God's plan for man and foresees the Messiah, who is Jesus Christ.
There is ONE small thing, skepticalcynic, that spearates CHRISTIANITY from all other religions:
The resurrection of Jesus Christ.
No one else was ever risen from the dead.
What you should be doing is trying to figure out whether or not the resurrection really happened. If not, go your merry way. If so, I think you would become a Christian immediately.
Most people on this thread will tell you that they had some kind of personal encounter with God through Jesus Christ.
That's why He's a personal God.
I'd like to leave you with the suggestion of reading 1 Corinthians Chapter 2 and especially 1 Corinthians 2:14-16.
I know this is circular reasoning and I'm using the bible, that you don't believe, to prove something - sorry about that, but I DO believe it!
