Jesus says in Matthew "it is easier for a camel to enter through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to go to heaven". But what about all the rich people mentioned in the bible? Solomon, Kings David, Abraham, job, we're all wealthy people. Also, what does the bible mean by rich? How much money must you have to be considered rich?

All people that are rich in Christ because it's by grace through faith in what he did alone for salvation...they all go to heaven for sure!

Ephesians 1:7 (KJV)
[SUP]7 [/SUP] In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Jesus also said right after that "...but everything is possible with God." Even mankind could fit a camel through the eye of a needle. This gross, but we are speaking 'possible' not 'easy'... If we made a tube that fit through a needle, and ground the camel up into a fine juice, and used a pump, we could fit a camel through the eye of a needle. But the warning is that it is MUCH harder for a rich man to go to heaven.

If you are afraid that you own too much, you probably do. Try to do some charity ;-)

I think there is not any limit of amount of "so rich you cant be christian", it always depends on where you live, how high are payments in your country/city etc.

The best indications should be that you own so much that you cant give it up easily, like the rich man from the Bible. It can be two cows in Africa or a mansion in USA.

the sleep of the labouring man is sweet whether he eat little or much, but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.

As a serious answer..... Jesus was speaking to the fact that many people are more committed to their wealth, and gaining more, than they are to God.

We are to devote ourselves to God, and living like Jesus did...

If we don't use our wealth and blessings in His "service", for lack of a better word, then we would be the camel trying to go through the needle's eye.

Well, even the richest of all can walk by God. I point towards Solomon (before his fall) :D
However, if we trust in our money more than anything else, it becomes an idol to us. I believe the context of this scripture is saying that those who have money or any idols for that matter as their god (higher than God in their eyes and life), will find that it's much harder.

Excellent insight :)

Ephesians 1:7 (KJV)

amen!

and this is exactly the gospel we preach:

Although I am less than the least of all the Lord’s people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the boundless riches of Christ, and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things.
(Ephesians 3:8-9)

no one in heaven is poor :)

One of the potential problems with being rich in this world is that it is so easy to rely on ourselves and what we can "do" instead of what God in Christ has already done for us. Our reliance and faith is placed wrong. Our life is in Christ only.

I think it all depends on how someone got rich I:E did they work of it did they get an inheritance , some one left that person a lot of money ? this would be ok BUT , ( did they steal it , or gamble to win it ) if this is how they did then NO unless they were sinners and they repent of sinning then they would.

Maybe we should look at the eye of the needle that Jesus was talking about.

The only way that a camel could go through was after all his load was removed. How does this apply to the rich man? It is interesting that Jesus told the rich man that he was to sell what he had and give it to the poor to enter heaven.

The rich man can go to heaven but he has to stand on his head for the first 100 trillion years of eternity in order to pay for the riches he had on earth. ( meanwhile the streets of heaven are paved with pure gold ) ( must be somethin' more to this riches thing then meets the natural mind of man )

You are on the right track.

Buying one-self's way to Heaven would indeed be difficult, the intent Jesus meant to be IMPOSSIBLE, since there is only one way through Jesus to Heaven.

That discards all Kosmos paths cherished by mankind, I.E., earning a wat into eternal bliss through distribution of one's wealth, which is actually God's wealth awarded to mankind. It would be like buying up assets by someone using the credit of a someone who has a fortune promised in a will before the Grantor has passed. The relative small credit in the NOW might persuade men, but in the sense of Eternity might not account to anything sufficient.
