Maybe we should look at the eye of the needle that Jesus was talking about.

The only way that a camel could go through was after all his load was removed. How does this apply to the rich man? It is interesting that Jesus told the rich man that he was to sell what he had and give it to the poor to enter heaven.
[h=1]Matthew 19:16-22New King James Version (NKJV)[/h][h=3]Jesus Counsels the Rich Young Ruler[/h]16 Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good[a] Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”
17 So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good?[b] No one is good but One, that is, God.[c] But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
18 He said to Him, “Which ones?”
Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ 19 ‘Honor your father and your mother,’[d] and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”[e]
20 The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept from my youth.[f] What do I still lack?”
21 Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

The key to this passage is in the Rich young ruler's question.

What GOOD thing must HE DO to inherit eternal life. He is basically trying to work his way to heaven by his acts and goodness. Jesus is proving to him that he in fact didn't and CAN'T keep ALL the law. The rich ruler DIDN'T love his neighbor as himself or he wouldn't be so Rich!

Jesus was teaching him, and us, that eternal life was ONLY possible through Him. His wealth was never really the issue, it was his attempt to EARN salvation by his own deeds.

Matthew 19:24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Once a prosperous young man gets entangled with business affairs, or whatever it is that has caused his accumulation of wealth, that also hold the highest place of his priorities. Once wealth has been obtained, it becomes a greater job to maintain it, then it was to obtain it. The riches of God's kingdom take second place to the physical life that he is enjoying temporarily with his riches.

The term, "the eye of the needle" is in reference to a small door that is in the gate of a city, and this is the only door that is allowed to be opened after dark. For a camel to pass through the gate and enter the city, the camel must be completely unloaded, and forced through. Thus the comparison of the difficulty of the rich man. This rich man must first unload his wealth, thus, we have this proverb that is quite common in the East. In the Babylonian Talmud, they use an elephant, rather than a camel.

This young man is definitely seeking the advantage of man's world, and the kingdom that this world gives, rather than coming to God through Christ as a small child, with his complete love for the Father.

If one is concerned about being rich then one maybe shouldn't dream about being rich. But plenty of rich people (especially in sports) are Christians and use their platform to bring people to Christ. Tim Tebow and Steph Curry and prime examples of this, and that's just in sports. It's very easy, though, to let that consume you and take over of you.

Jesus says in Matthew "it is easier for a camel to enter through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to go to heaven". But what about all the rich people mentioned in the bible? Solomon, Kings David, Abraham, job, we're all wealthy people. Also, what does the bible mean by rich? How much money must you have to be considered rich?
Mat 19:16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
Mat 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
Mat 19:18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
Mat 19:19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Mat 19:20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
Mat 19:21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
Mat 19:22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
Mat 19:23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 19:24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Mat 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

1Ti 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
1Ti 6:7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
1Ti 6:8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
1Ti 6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
1Ti 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

1Jn 3:17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
1Jn 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

As long as there are people in need, the saints have to help them, for God loves people, not making the saints rich.

God would love all people to dine on the finest steak, and lobster, and live in a huge mansion,as long as that could include everyone.

But we do not live in such a world, and the world wants to take, and heap,to exalt themselves.

The world does not play fair, for they will not limit themselves on the amount of money they take, and heap, which because of their unfairness, people lack, and suffer, and go without, which as long as that condition occurs,we have to help people.

If the world played fair, they would only take so much, and with the rest do much good, and everybody would benefit.

The business man, lets say Walmart, although they all tend to fall in to this mold,it is the people that made them rich, and how do they reward them,by upping their prices, giving them lower quality, and lesser quantity, that is how they reward those that made them rich, which all things are basically a business, whether sports, music, movies, and television, and other things, and they want money without limit, ripping, and gypping, with little concern for people,as well as people in the Middle Class, heaping whatever little bit they can.

The world does not play fair,so there is going to be multitudes of people that need help, and as long as people need help, the saints have to help them, and only go by their needs.

I think it all depends on how someone got rich I:E did they work of it did they get an inheritance , some one left that person a lot of money ? this would be ok BUT , ( did they steal it , or gamble to win it ) if this is how they did then NO unless they were sinners and they repent of sinning then they would.
Ummm, my family did both. Great-grandpa created eight family businesses, and became rich that way. The oldest son eventually took over the businesses and continued the wealth. The rest of the family did the polo ponies/charity balls/rehab mansion thingy. And sure enough, I didn't come from the first born of the first born so my branch of the family made their own wealth again. And out of all the kids (and most of us are in our 50's-60's now, so we're old kids) about half made their wealth in their own ways and half of us opted not to get on the make-money bandwagon.

Nothing wrong with wealth. You don't have to be a scoundrel nor a pampered baby. I just grew up in a family that learned a multitude of ways to get rich, so was taught the mindset. I simply wasn't interested anymore than polo ponies, balls, and rehabbing old buildings tickle my fancy.

I really wish people would stop assuming rich is a sin or disease. It's a state of not-worried-about-paying-bills.

Actually that's an old wives tale, and, in this case, pretty old, just not old enough.

Right. And the meaning of the Jesus teaching is that it is impossible for a camel to do that ("what is impossible... is possible for God"). The invention of some kind of gate, were it would be in fact possible for a camel to go through (unloaded), messed up the meaning.
