I believe when we try to "apply" the letter of the word without the Spirit bringing the reality of it through and to us.

Romans 7:6 (NASB)
[SUP]6 [/SUP] But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter.

Here Paul uses circumcision as an example.

Romans 2:29 (NASB)
[SUP]29 [/SUP] But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God.

2 Corinthians 3:6 (KJV)
[SUP]6 [/SUP] Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

BTW...are you feeling better? I know you had a high temperature the other night.

I am feeling 1000 percent better thank you. Just have a nagging cough.

We serve in newness of spirit in that we don't keep the law to make God happy but we serve in love and desire. Not that the "letter" doesn't mean what it says and the letter is good and we still can't attain to it but STOPPED trying to please God that way and now we serve him in newness of spirit.

When Paul was speaking of the letter of the law I believe he was referring to the OT law, not to the instructions that had been given to the church. We are to follow the instructions given to the church.

uh

what you quote from I Samuel above, concerns Israel wanting a king...it is not talking about the period of the judges

why are you jumping all over the place?

the book of Judges actually explains itself quite well...what you are posting here...I'm sorry...just does not make any sense and is not accurate

where does it say that the Judges were resisted?
Wanting a king like the other pagan nations of the world because of their jealously of other surrounding nations. It ended the period of Judges when there was no outward representation .They rejected God(not seen) as their king rather than walking by the faith of Christ the unseen, eternal.

The first century refomation restored it back to a time when God reigned from heaven by a work of his faith that he worked in the believer. No longer using the Jews as shadows and types. This brought a tribulation for them called the trouble of Jacob, same tribulation as today.

What time period do you think it was restored to if not the period of Judges? ?

Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;

Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them "until the time of reformation."Heb 9:6
