We as Christians do spend most of our valueable time praying but how effective are this prayers we often make. I have notice that soo many Christians believe prayers is all about talking to God.

Prayer means an act of communication with God. When I mean communication, it means you are not only the person to talk to God, He also have something to say to you.

Most of our prayers is really making God very angry because we kept on talking to Him not minding if He also could talk. By so doing, we are making an idol out of Him.

Prayer also is a type of faith where you pray (communicate) with an unseen God yet believe He will answer you.

To truly have an effective prayer life, you need to talk to Him as a person you know. Talk to Him the way you talk to a well respected father and also very importantantly, wait to hear what He have to say.

People don't know God desire to talk to them much more than the way they want to talk to Him

I don't think God gets mad at us when we pray, even if we are not very good at it.
I think it makes Him sad when we don't pray.

Praise and worship is also prayer but to music.

Some prayers might just be a simple "help me" they have no more influence
on God than the long complicated ones.

I think the main thing is to be honest and heart felt. Don't "talk" to God because
you feel obliged to do so, talk to him because you want to.

I tell God all sorts, I will be walking along and say something like "hey God did you
just see that". Or "please don't let the bus come until I get to the bus stop".
You would be surprised at the answers/replies which come to mind.

I don't see God as remote, someone you have to plead with and wrong your hands.
I see him as Jesus walking or sitting besides me and we "chat" together.

I agree. Quite some time ago I posted a thread about this............it is among my Blogs. Don't remember the exact Title, but it is something like .... "When you pray, do you listen?"

Our prayers to God are a "two way" conversation. Now, I do not believe that there are specific words/prayers we must recite for God to approve of our prayers........any prayer that is sincere and contrite is acceptable to God, even, as someone said, if it is as simple as "Help me dear Lord."

(see if I can get the link to my Blog)

Effective prayers are when you allow the prayers and God's answers to change your heart and mind to confirm with God's desires. Instead of making an idol God that confirms to you and your wishes.

[for me anyway] prayer is in no wise a two way communication, that God has something to say to us; rather we can behold two examples in (Luke 18:1-14): the first example deals with that we should always pray, and not give up; the second deals with our attitude toward God: in pride or humility; and which is justified.

For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.
1 Peter 3:12

The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
James 5:16

Do you follow Christ and walk in righteousness? God will listen to you.

God hears the broken hearted, even when they are covered with sin and iniquity

He picks them up and washed them clean with the blood of the lamb.

If he only heard the prayers of those "who walk righteously" we would all be lost.

He hears the prayers of all His children. However, how he answers the prayers depends on if your heart is in line with God's will or if your heart lusts after this world.

Yes, it's opening our heart to him and praying for his will not just for things we want. He has a perfect will for us and works all for our good. If we pray for his will then all is well.
James 4:3
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

Yes, Paul taught is to pray constantly (1 Thess 5:17 RSV). But what it the purpose of prayer? Is it to constantly ask for things? That is part of it, but mainly it's to make friends with the Lord and walk with him throughout our lives.

I know that's very important to pray and Jesus teaches us how we should pray. But to make an effective pray is difficult...I always feel that something is missing when I pray...

Thank you for the text!

I don't know where you got the idea that he gets angry when we talk and pray to him and don't listen very much but this is not true, yes he would prefer we listen but he doesn't get angry. prayer is a communication with God it's a bonding of two separate hearts one mortal the other immortal he treasures the conversations with his children he is delighted to find those who love to talk to him who constantly are in communion with him.

You would be surprised how how heart leaps for joy just from hearing from his children how his heart skips a beat just to hear a true heartfelt I love you from us. And the more we are communion with him the more we naturally learn to listen for some the listening part takes longer to learn than others but in the end you cannot have a deep and personal bond and prayer life with him without learning how to listen because it just appears naturally it's the fruits of being in close communion with him. What makes an effective isn't based on our listening skills which can be good or bad depending on several factors like how close we are to him life's situations and how we are doing mentally emotionally and spiritually, if that is what depended on effective prayer I can only imagine how things would have been for the apostles who were persecuted and even had doubts and fear in their hearts yet their prayers were powerful and why?

Because they had a close bond with him because regardless of any kind of weakness they may have had( yes even the listening skills) he didn't. I could write an entire sermon on the subject of prayer but I think for now this post will do

When you pray can you tell there is a connection with God? or do you feel sort of like your talking to thin air?

God gets angry that we talk to Him? We're making an idol out of God? I'm not feeling this.

When people think they know how God feels and think they know what he thinks this kind of thread appears. I am not saying that we cannot know how he feels and thinks at some level but just as people think they know God when in reality they know nothing of him so is such a thing like this.

we have to remember to be very careful when we make posts or threads in teaching of the things of God because if one takes on the role of a teacher they are all the more responsible for both the damage and the healing their words do
