What's that say about all the accounts of killing in the OT at God's command to the Israelites?
Jesus answered that here as to why it is different now under the New Covenant.

Matthew 5:[SUP]38 [/SUP]Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:[SUP]39 [/SUP]But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.........[SUP]43 [/SUP]Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.[SUP]44 [/SUP]But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;[SUP]45 [/SUP]That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.[SUP]46 [/SUP]For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?[SUP]47 [/SUP]And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?[SUP]48 [/SUP]Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

It is amazing how CHRISTIANS always bring up this verse without ever actually reading it in context. Since Jesus said "enough" when the Disciples showed him TWO swords, it should be clear that he saw no need for any additional swords. https://textsincontext.wordpress.com/2012/06/17/two-swords-enough/
Many also forget that when Peter used a sword and cut off the ear of one of the servants of the high priest, Jesus admonished his use of the sword and said if you live by the sword, you'll also die by the sword.

So why did Jesus want them to have 2 small swords. To fulfill scripture that says he was numbered with transgressors.

We all have to wrestle with the OT Scripture. And along the way there are some surprises, like David being denied his wish to build the Temple because he was "a man of war and had shed much blood." The best academic work on the subject is a recent book, Fight, by Dr. Preston Sprinkle who teaches at Frances Chan's college. For an overview of the OT fighting by one struggling with it, Chapter Three of https://spurgeonwarquotes.wordpress.com/2013/04/02/living-our-resurrection-faith-following-our-king/

It is equally amazing how many pacifist believers reject the very WORDS of JESUS in favor of quoting an idol named Spurgeon.....

New American Standard Bible
And He said to them, "But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one.

King James Bible
Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

The Book of Joshua is not in the New Testament and Jesus has said that things were different now in Matthew 5:38-39 & Matthew 5:43-48 so that the Book of Joshua of the O.T. does not apply any more in applying to our walk with Him in how we deal with our enemies.
Jesus did not undo any of the commands of His Father. there is a difference when Jesus says "you have heard it said" and "it is written". both the passages you mentioned Jesus is referring to doctrines not written law. Matthew 5:43-48 has to do with love your neighbor and hate your enemy but the Father never commanded us to hate anyone. certain leaders were obviously taking scripture, twisting it and using it to make bad theology, this is IMO what Jesus was teaching against.

First, Charles Spurgeon is a brother in Christ and time-tested hero of the faith.

Second, You are biblically illiterate. You have no clue what those words of Jesus mean, hardly the mark of a disciple of Christ. Are you too lazy to read and study? https://textsincontext.wordpress.com/2012/06/17/two-swords-enough/

I can read fine pal.....and I see you have for the third time failed to answer a simple question....

So....try again...

If your wife or child is being raped and strangled in front of you what would you do.....?

We are all waiting.....

And for the record.....The bible carries weight.....the words inspired and given by JESUS and PAUL and JUDE etc. carry weight....

Spurgeon has NO WEIGHT....JESUS did not use him to give the bible....so....You quote SPURGEON.....I WILL QUOTE JESUS.....JESUS trumps SPURGEON and the verbiage is clear.......

READ it yourself and chunk the commentaries....all you are doing is regurgitating what another man believes....

Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

I know nothing about Charles Spurgeon, but last time I checked, he is NOT God. :) So his words really have no relevance here.. I suggest you stick to reading the Word of God, and stop relying on wordpress.com and CS for your info..

You can always ask Jesus Christ at that throne of grace to confirm your opinion or reprove it to speak His will on the matter.
