I agree it's strange, a difficult saying.

The whole law is fulfilled in one word, in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Actually Dan, that is not true.
which is not true?
the sentence "The whole law is fulfilled in one word, in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself”?

or "I agree it's strange, a difficult saying."

the KJV puts it this way "For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself"?

a possible interpretation. One thing that may be interesting is that Paul says what the "word" or "logos" is. That is, he lists a commandment.

"logos" can be a single word, or, often, a saying, statement, command.
Greek Concordance: λόγῳ (logō) -- 45 Occurrences

The KJV translates the same word, in the same form, here as "saying" Luke 1:29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
and
John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed.
It is not an issue my dear for we are not basing everything on this verse but believe this affirms to the Love according to GOD and not man... so to represent what is written in a different light and not use the Light of the Lord is futile... and really not going to undo what is written through out the Old and New Testament.. Faith in Christ is Faith that worketh by Love.. and nothing can prove otherwise when the Holy Spirit is ones guide and comforter reminding of all Truth.

Hi Dan, let me re-post it for you to make it easier to understand.....

The whole law is fulfilled in one word, in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Actually Dan, that is not true. There are two great commandments. One is our love to God (Exodus 20:1-11; Deut 6:5; Matt 22:36-40) and the second is love to our neighbor (Exodus 20:12-17; Lev 19:18; Matt 22:36-40) Love is indeed the fulfilling of the entire Law. However, if we are breaking any of God's commandments it shows us that we do not have the love of God in us. Only by faith that works by love is God's Law fulfilled in us who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit and is why we need to be born again......

Matthew 22:36-40
36, Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? 37, And he said unto him, (1) Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38, This is the great andfirst commandment. 39, And a second like unto it is this, (2) Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 40, On these two commandments the whole law hangs, and the prophets.

Romans 13:8-10
8, Owe no man anything, save to love one another: for he that loves his neighbor hath fulfilled the law. 9, For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not covet, and if there be any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 10, Love works no ill to his neighbor: love therefore is the fulfillment of the law. (this is the 2nd great commandment of love to our neighbor)

James 2:8-12

8, Howbeit if ye fulfill the royal law, according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well: 9, but if ye have respect of persons, ye commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors. 10, For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is become guilty of all. 11, For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou dost not commit adultery, but killest, thou art become a transgressor of the law. 12, So speak ye, and so do, as men that are to be judged by a law of liberty.

If you are knowingly and willfully breaking any of God's commandments you do not have God's love in you. This includes your duty of love to God in the first great commandment. If you break the 4th commandment you are not fulfilling your duty of your love to God. God is calling us to repent and believe the Gospel for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand....

Hope this is helpful.....

Think about this...God had to "make" a new covenant with us because we couldnt follow the "old".
The new covenant was not made for you unless you're an Israelite

Jeremiah 31:31 KJV - 31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

Hebrews 8:8 KJV - 8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:

Unless you are an Israelite the covenant is not for you, that's why you people don't see the need to keep His laws and commandments.

Do not let the son of the Gentile, who has joined himself to YHWH, speak, saying; YHWH has utterly separated me from His people. Nor let the eunuch say; Behold, I am a dry tree. For this is what YHWH says: To the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths, and choose those things which please Me, and hold fast to My covenant: I will give to them, in My House, even within My walls, a place and a Name equal to that of sons and of daughters; I will give them the Name of The Everlasting: YHWH; which will not be cut off. Also the sons of the Gentile who join themselves to YHWH, to serve Him, and to love the Name of YHWH, to be His servants--everyone who keeps the Sabbaths without polluting; defiling, them and who holds fast to My covenant--I will bring them to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My House of prayer..."

Hebrews 4:1-11, "Therefore, since a promise of entering His rest remains, let us fear so that none of you should come short of it. For this message was preached to us, as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not benefit them, because they did not share in the faith of those who obeyed-- However, we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: So I vowed in My wrath, They will not enter into My rest, although the works were finished from the foundation of the world, For He spoke in a certain place of the Seventh Day, in this way: And Yahweh rested the Seventh Day from all His works. And in this place again: If they will enter into My rest. Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, Again, He designates a certain day, saying in David: ''Today,'' after so long a time, as it has been said: Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts. If Yahshua (ben Nun) had given them rest he would not have spoken afterward of another day. Therefore, there remains the keeping of the Sabbath (word G#4520) to the people of Yahweh, For he who has entered into His rest (word G#2663) has also ceased from his own works, as Yahweh did from His. yes, going with what is written through out the Old and New Testament!

for me, that means every passage has to fit.

of course, we don't want to use a single verse to support the teaching. There is the very similar passage in Romans.

Hi Dan, let me re-post it for you to make it easier to understand.....

You're saying that it is not true that the whole law is fulfilled in one word, in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself”?

for me, the whole Bible has to fit together. To say that a passage isn't true wouldn't work for me.

Dan,

Firstly I have never said any passage of scripture is not true. Only your interpretation of the scripture is not true....

For example you take part of a scripture that says; Owe no man anything, save to love one another: for he that loves his neighbor hath fulfilled the law. It does not say this is fulfilling the whole Law .. It is talking about our duty of love to our neighbor.....

Your interpretation is that if you love your neighbor you fulfill all of God's Law.... correct?

However this is not the meaning of the scripture. The context of the scriptures from Romans 13:8-10 is that this fulfills your duty of love towards your neighbor. Thou shalt love your neighbor as yourself... It is not talking about the first great commandment of your duty of love to God which is also a requirement for salvation.

For example if you take your interpretation we no longer have any duty of love to God and are now free to break all of the commandments which show our duty of love to God by by not having other Gods, idols, using God's name in vain and breaking God's Sabbath. You do not believe that you can break your duty of love towards God do you?

Let's look at what we are saying above in the light of the Words of Jesus.............

Matthew 22:36-40 (The two great commandments of love that fulfills God's Law)36, Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? 37, And he said unto him, (1) Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38, This is the first and great commandment. 39, And the second like unto it is this, (2) Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 40, On these two commandments the whole law hangs, and the prophets.

On the two great commandments in Matthew 22:36-40, Jesus tells us; on these two great commandments of love hang all the Law and the prophets and this is what Romans and James is highlighting when they talk about love and the 10 commandments......Duty of love in the 2nd great commandment.......

Romans 13:8-10
8, Owe no man anything, save to love one another: for he that loves his neighbor hath fulfilled the law <Which Law? The Second great commandment Matthew 22:39-40>.

This is also the 2nd great commandment of love to our neighbor as written in Matthew 22:39-40.....

Jesus says; On these two commandments hang all the Law and the prophets. The 10 commandments are our duty of love to (1) God and (2) Our neighbor because love is the fulfilling of God's Law in us who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit.....

However, if we are breaking any of God's commandments it shows us that we do not have the love of God in us. Only by faith that works by love is God's Word fulfilled in us who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit and this is why we need to be born again......

Hope this helps

Romans 13:8-10
8, Owe no man anything, save to love one another: for he that loves his neighbor hath fulfilled the law <Which Law? The Second great commandment Matthew 22:39-40>.

This is also the 2nd great commandment of love to our neighbor as written in Matthew 22:39-40.....

Now if thou dost not commit adultery, but kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. 12, So speak ye, and so do, as men that are to be judged by a law of liberty.

There are two great commandments. One is our love to God (Exodus 20:1-11; Deut 6:5; Matt 22:36-40) and the second is love to our neighbor (Exodus 20:12-17; Lev 19:18; Matt 22:36-40).

Hope this helps
well, breaking it down,

Dan,

Firstly I have never said any passage of scripture is not true. Only your interpretation of the scripture is not true....

For example you take part of a scripture that says; Owe no man anything, save to love one another: for he that loves his neighbor hath fulfilled the law. It does not say this is fulfilling the whole Law
I believe that's where we see it differently.

.. It is talking about our duty of love to our neighbor.....

Your interpretation is that if you love your neighbor you fulfill all of God's Law.... correct?
yes

However this is not the meaning of the scripture. The context of the scriptures from Romans 13:8-10 is that this fulfills your duty of love towards your neighbor. Thou shalt love your neighbor as yourself... It is not talking about the first great commandment of your duty of love to God which is also a requirement for salvation.

For example if you take your interpretation we no longer have any duty of love to God
I see it differently. Loving your neighbor (the image and glory of God) is the "nuts and bolts" of loving God.

and are now free to break all of the commandments which show our duty of love to God by by not having other Gods, idols, using God's name in vain and breaking God's Sabbath.
not break, fulfill.

You do not believe that you can break your duty of love towards God do you?
no.

"Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ."
is the law of Christ somehow different from the law of God? I don't think so.

Paul to the Corintians, "If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord."

If you know the Law of The Most High, you would know this;

Leviticus 19:34, "‘Let the stranger who dwells among you be to you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself. For you were strangers in the land of Mitsrayim. I am יהוה your Strength."

and this;

Numbers 15:15-16, “One law is for you of the assembly and for the stranger who sojourns with you – a law forever throughout your generations. As you are, so is the stranger before יהוה. One Torah and one right-ruling is for you and for the stranger who sojourns with you.”

Exodus 12:47-49, “All the congregation of Israel shall keep it. And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the Passover to יהוה, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof. One law shall be to him that is nativeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourns among you.”

Isayah 56:1-7, "This is what YHWH says: Keep the judgments, and do justly; for My salvation is near, soon, to come, and My righteousness to be revealed. Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who lays hold on it; who keeps the Sabbaths without polluting; defiling, them; and keeps his hand from doing any evil.
When the strangers were with them it only means that they must keep the Laws of TMH because he did not want them to lead the Israelites astray. When He told them to go in and take a nations land tp possess that land what did He tell them to do? and why?, He said kill every thing associated with that nation. Because He says the strange needs to follow the rules that He gave the Israelites He never told them they were part of the promise. Please show me in scriptures were He told any other nation that they were promised salvation.

Hello Dan,

Your post above does not break down anything, or have you addressed the scriptures in post #s 3433 or 3423.

Let's look at some other scriptures that are on this same topic that tie in with Matthew 22:36-40 that may help.......

(Jesus is quoting from Deut 6:5 and Lev 19:18)

Jesus says we have (1) a duty of love to God as well as a (2) duty of love to our neighbor in Matthew 22:36-40 and on these two commandments hang all the Law and the prophets....

Now let's look at the message of Jesus to the rich young ruler. I believe this is the same message that can be a blessing or a curse to you because you hold the same belief that if you only have to follow the 2nd great commandment of love to your neighbor...

Matthew 19:16-26

16, And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? 17, And he said unto him, Why call thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandment(s) <Plural more then one referring to the two Great one love to God and neighbor>. 18, He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, 19, Honor thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. < Jesus first quotes our duty of love in the 2nd Great commandment> 20, The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? <The rich young ruler followed this commandment but deep down inside he knew he lacked something> 21, Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. 22, But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. 23, Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. 24, And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 25, When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? 26, But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

This was the message to the rich young ruler because he believed he practiced love to His neighbor which is the second great commandment and this is what you believe, but Jesus tells him Go sell all that you have and give it to the poor and come and follow me. The rich young ruler went away sorrowful because he had great possessions.....

What is the meaning?

The rich young ruler believed he was following God because he was obeying God's 2nd great commandment which is our duty of Love our neighbor. He quotes the commandments the are our duty of love to our neighbor but deep down inside he knew that something was wrong, so he went and asks Jesus, What must I do to that I may have eternal life? Jesus then shows him that he loved his possessions more than God and was not obeying the 1st great commandment and duty of love to God. His God and idol was his possessions which he loved more than God.

Was the rich young ruler in a saved state?

But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. He was sorrowful because Jesus showed him he was not really following his duty of Love to God (1st great commandment) and goes on to say... Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

If we break one of God's commandments of love on which all the Law and the prophets hang, we stand guilty before God of breaking all of them... If we reject God's Word then God's Word will judge us in the last days..

Consider very carefully God's Word my friend and today if you hear his voice follow him who through love is calling you..

Hi, I am trying to keep God's Holy day in the correct way, I do not go to a church because there are only two churches in the village in which I live and although I have been asked to join one of them, they do not keep God's Holy day on a Saturday.

I wondered if any one else have the same problem, and if so what you do.
The reason for Sunday church goes back to rules about the Sabbath. There was a prescribed distance that people were allowed to walk during the Sabbath. They then gathered together the day after it to worship together.

I think you are confusing the people who were directly occupying the land, the Amalakites and the nephal with gentiles, and clearly you don't want to see it because it was in those verses I supplied a number of times, here I will show again the will of Yah.

you shall love him as yourself

As you are, so is the stranger before יהוה

he shall be as one that is born in the land

Also the sons of the Gentile who join themselves to YHWH, to serve Him, and to love the Name of YHWH, to be His servants--everyone who keeps the Sabbaths without polluting; defiling, them and who holds fast to My covenant--I will bring them to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My House of prayer

not everyone who is a descendant of Yisra’yl who belongs to Yisra’yl...; but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham's seed

if you are of Messiah, then you are seed of Aḇraham, and heirs according to promise

in every nation, he who fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him

If you know the Law of The Most High, you would know this;

Leviticus 19:34, "‘Let the stranger who dwells among you be to you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself. For you were strangers in the land of Mitsrayim. I am יהוה your Strength."

Numbers 15:15-16, “One law is for you of the assem bly and for the stranger who sojourns with you – a law forever throughout your generations.

Mat 15:24, “And He answering, said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Yisra’yl.”

Jeremiah 31:33, "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Yisra’yl: After those days, says YHWH: I will put My Law (Torah/Instructions) in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts, and I will be their Strength, and they will be My people."

Romans 9:6-8, "However, it is not as though YHWH's plan had failed. For it is not everyone who is a descendant of Yisra’yl who belongs to Yisra’yl. Nor, just because they are his descendants, are they all Abraham's children; but: In Isaac will your seed be called. That is, it is not those who are the children of the flesh who are YHWH's children; but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham's seed."

Psalm 105:6-9, "O seed of Abraham His servant, You children of Yaaqob, His chosen ones! He is YHWH our Father! His judgments are in all the earth. He has remembered His covenant forever, the Law He commanded for a thousand generations; Which He made; ratified, established, with Abraham, and vowed by His oath to Isaac. He confirmed it; let it stand, to Yaaqob for a Law, and to Israyl for an everlasting covenant."

Galatians 3:27-29, “For as many of you as were immersed into Messiah have put on Messiah. There is not Yehuḏi nor Greek, there is not slave nor free, there is not male and female, for you are all one in Messiah יהושע. And if you are of Messiah, then you are seed of Aḇraham, and heirs according to promise.”
Acts 10:34-35, “And opening his mouth, Kĕpha said, “Truly I see that Yah shows no partiality, but in every nation, he who fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.”
Revelation 7:9-10, “After this I looked and saw a great crowd which no one was able to count, out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes, and palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Deliverance belongs to YHWH who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

Isaiah 56:6, "Also the sons of the Gentile who join themselves to YHWH, to serve Him, and to love the Name of YHWH, to be His servants--everyone who keeps the Sabbaths without polluting; defiling, them and who holds fast to My covenant--I will bring them to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My House of prayer..."

That is a pharisee law. Not a Law of Yah.
