I had been messaging a mentor from a different site. I was telling her about a situation and when she responded to me last night, she told me she was feeling Genesis 22 come to mind and it seemed like God wanted me to read about the test he put on Abraham. She told me to spend some time w/ God, read that passage and pray. She said to spend some quality time w/ God and see what he has for me. Her email was MUCH longer and meant a lot to me but, i won't go into that.

I read Genesis 22, even though I knew the story. After I finished reading, I prayed asking God what test is he putting me through? What is he expecting me to do about the situation I'm in. I kept coming up empty handed, so, finally, I tried something. I am that person who will give something to God then take it back bc it's extremely difficult.

So, last night, w/ my left hand outstretched while laying in bed, i prayed something like this. Jesus, I give this person to you, take them completely into your hands, please transform their life and please do whatever in your power to bring them to yourself. Please transform them mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. I give them to you but please please don't hurt this person (I had also shed a few tears while praying that prayer) --- Also from what the mentor stated, she said God doesn't just want us to focus on his plans in what he shares w/ us, he wants us to focus and worship him too. So, after praying that prayer, I initially felt, i don't know how to explain it, but, almost relaxed and kinda like peace.

But, then I continued (usually, I only pray about this one situation), but, I spread my prayers out, while praying for others, thanking God for answering other prayers and just helping me along.

Not all my questions were answered when I prayed last night though.

When I asked God what did he mean by a test and what test, I didn't get any answers besides what I did try. I know I need to keep praying on this bc God may not reveal the answer to me right away.

I guess tests from God can look different per each person right?

I know I've been put through other tests lately and it's hard to distinguish different things.

But, I want to follow through on what this mentor is saying but, how else can I figure what type of test God is either currently putting me through (that i don't know about even tho I am going thru something difficult) or what he wants me to do because I don't know.
I had been talking on and off with this mentor from a different website. I explained a situation to her and she said she was hearing Genesis 22 about how God tested Abraham. She challenged me to spend some time with God and read that chapter and she prayed that God would speak to me.

You asked Jesus Christ to not hurt a person? Wow. Just... wow!

I was just sharing a story. I was hoping to hear from others how or if God shows them if they're going to be tested or if they just go through it. I don't know. I'm ust new to a lot of this. It's difficult.

You do not have the authority to hand another person over to Christ.
That is their own choice.

and either way how is giving someone to God a test?

I have no idea. I have given several people over to God.

I have no clue. Like I said, I was just sharing a story and what I tried.

Apparently, I did it wrong, so forget it. I was trying to reach out in faith. I felt that's what I was supposed to do but, apparently not. Forget it.

I'm not trying to test God --- I had the idea that God was trying to test me w/ something but, again, I guess I got the completely wrong idea from this entire thing so, nevermind. I'll start at square one tonight and start from the beginning.

I'm trying to listen to God. Trying to follow him. Trying to do what he wants me to do. Since I don't know what that is, I was just trying and I was just trying to share my experience on here.

And apparently, everyone thinks I should know that what I was doing isn't right. Well, no, I didn't know that bc I often give people to God.

Frustrating not knowing what to do.

you say you are trying to reach out in faith. What are you reaching out for?

An answer to what the test is about?
I don't see a test from reading your post, could just be me though, I am known to be a bit slow. :)

Have you read your Bible from beginning to end? Have you asked for understanding? Seek the Truth where it is found my dear.

Do not take it personally, we do not know your background, we just have the story you written. Maybe if you will give some details on why are you having a mentor, mentor in what, what are you trying to achieve or... I do not know.

I just emailed the mentor back bc maybe I got it all wrong. She said the chapter coming to her mind was Genesis 22 about God testing Abraham's faith. So, I thought that maybe God was trying to test my faith somehow but I didn't know how. So, being that I was struggling w/ a specific situation and I had no answers, I initially just tried to pray and give this situation and that person over to God because I felt it was something I should do.

I didn't mention the entire situation, only part of it bc i don't want to share it all but, I did feel like God was testing me, as he's been testing me on and off.

Like I said, maybe I have this all wrong even though I was trying.

Now mania, I don't know how long you have been a Christian but from what I have read it can't be to long. Even the last two words in your post#7 where you said, "Forget it." shows immaturity even though some here are trying to help you. Your focus should be on getting to know Jesus Christ by reading that Bible which will help you grow.

Sure, your suppose to pray for people but not in the sense of testing God to see if He will do what you want. In fact, my wife is on her way home right now driving and I just prayed for God to keep her safe and get her home safe. I don't look at it from the perspective of God testing Abraham in sacrificing his son like you mentor advised you. Do you know what "sanctification" means mania? Please let me know what it means?

And the main way God speaks to us is through His word the Bible. You speak to Him in prayer because afterall prayer is simply talking with God. One more thing to keep in mind, often times where we pray especially for others you may not see the results of your prayers. That does not mean you stop praying for them. I look at it that when the end comes and were finally in heaven and in the new earth I want to be surprised by the results of my prayers.

And there is one more piece of advice I would like to offer you. Do you know how I know God answers prayers? It's when "REALTIY" proves God to be right. Think about that?

IN GOD THE SON,

Everything in our life can be a test. I would not concentrate so much on what is and what is not a test. Just live according to your best knowledge, rely on God and everything will be ok :)

It's a shame that this mentor of yours didn't suggest that you read and dwell on the Song of Solomon or some other uplifting passages instead of studying about a test of Abraham. I would be very leery of relying on someone to tell you what they believe that God is telling you to study.

I think some of you need to be more in tune to the calling and voice of God and stop all the backlash. I figured out what the test was that God was giving me. He was testing to see if I would give up my "Isaac" and I did and right after I did, I felt a release and a peace and I feel like everything will be taken care of in time.

And to the person who said it sounds like I haven't been a Christian for very long, yes I have been. God has spoken to me often. I knew what I was talking about til a good majority of you confused me and made me doubt everything. Good job BTW.

By the way most of you responded to me which sounded a lot like u making fun of me or not knowing what I was talking about, shame on you.

Learn how to respond to people w/o making fun of them or with the backlash most of u gave me. Its responses like yours that would drive a lot of non Christians away. Instead of responding in love and with questions instead of in hate.

To GuessWho, are you even a Christian??? From your response it doesn't sound like it.

And to wwjd kilden, where did u hear that we can't give a person over to God?? It doesn't have to be their choice if you're praying for them.

Get your facts straight people!! If u don't know what you're talking about, don't respond. Its a great way to confuse people.

This was what I was responding to. Is that not their own choice(or God's) ?
Can you show me a bible verse in which someone gives someone else over to God?

PS: You are in a public forum, don't expect everyone to have the same view as yourself (or each other)

I don't expect everyone to have the sane views but I also don't expect people to hate on me either for a post

I'd say Genesis 22 is a good example where God tested Abraham to sacrifice Isaac over to him and he followed thru and was blessed. After I gave my friend over to God to release him from my mind I felt peace and a release. Same difference. Think about it! I know God will take care of him and will transform his life on his own timing.

Let me ask you this. What if some day, God asks you to do something. And you say, well, what you're asking me to do is not in the Bible so does that mean you're going to completely ignore him or are u going to step out in faith and do what he asks? What if what he asks you to do is in a different context then what you're looking for like in the Genesis 22 story? You'd need to pray about it like I did and let God open your heart and see where he leads. Thats what I did!

So, what this all boils down to was that you needed to surrender your worry about this person to God?

:)
