Really, work, sleep, hygiene, God? Where does "love your neighbors fit" in? What is it about God, if you don't even take the time to enjoy what he gives you?
There is this pretty purple flower that grows around here. The entire plant is about the size of my thumb. It's not native to the area, so it's considered invasive, but it's just so darn pretty. If you look at it closely the tiny little details God put into it are truly amazing. (Want to capture it on camera, but the camera doesn't do that close.) It's just a weed that takes over lawns at parks around here, but God made it just to enjoy. And he put it out of its original habitat, in part, so I could find it. (I really like the different shades of purple in flowers.)
If I worked, slept, showered/shampooed/shaved, and spent time only in God's word, I would have never seen that flower. If that's all I did, I'd also wouldn't do anyone else any good.
If your only purpose is to give up without swapping it for something good, it is useless. It's also ignoring what God has already given us to enjoy. I may never have seen a feathered dino, but I see tiny purple flowers that shouldn't be there.
God doesn't say, "give up" like that. He says, "Give in!" Give in to what he wants, not austerity!
