I read the four gospels first before anything to get a better understanding of Jesus and his nature, and then read acts and so forth and it's a good thing I did because had I not if I read how God appeared in the old testament I would have misunderstood him.
There is no one set way to study the bible but one thing you must know is that you cannot read it without an open teachable heart. If you go into it with your own views and doctrines set in stone then that is all you will see when you read the scriptures. The mind has a funny way of only seeing what it wants to see and many mistake this as the holy spirit.
Three people can read the same verse and get three different meanings from it. The bible is like an onion or the earths crust it has many layers and many read only the first layer because they already have their own beliefs and views set in stone so even if the truth was shown to them in the bible they would be blind to it

Another thing I have found is that the bible is like a spiderweb it is connected through and through I often times have to cross reference a single verse with other scriptures that are related and connected to it to truly understand the meaning of that verse but that is only something one who can chew the meat of scriptures should attempt it would be overwhelming otherwise.
Alsop find a topic in the bible that interests you that helps a great deal, I used to love reading Psalms because I called it the book of encouragement I was always uplifted by Davids heartfelt prayers and songs and i found a kindred spirit in him much of what he said and felt I did as well and even sometimes would say something on cc and read psalms later and be amazed because David had said something either exactly the same or very similar.

Also bible prophecy is something I am fascinated with and study deeply not to understand the end times and the rapture but simply because it is a subject I can search and study with great interest. There are plenty of subjects one can devote themselves to like angels spiritual warfare the very nature and attribute of god and Jesus and the holy spirit and other things as well. There is no one way to study his word as he teaches guides and speaks to and with his children differently because we are all different

Sister melly4jesus,The very first lesson the Lord took me to,is to understand how Holy Spirit does the teaching.( 1 John 2:27)Since grace is instructing(Titus 2:11-12) Then learning when and how to speak was my first lesson.( James 3:1-18!!!)Wisdom is also many times silent!

For wisdom in ones own words, can both hold ones own peace, and give another great peace!( James 3:13-18!!) Words as you know can do one of two things, for self and another, they can bring one life or death!( Proverbs 18:19-21!!) And there are two things one can never take back, one is time, and two is ones words.SO!!!( Col 4:6!!!)

For me sister this was lesson number one because I had a large problem with being very blunt!! (Using bad words to shorten my language!!) What I have come to find out sister is that when, not if, but when, you allow Holy Spirit to led you in your tongue( rom 8:14-15) then he will help control your feeling and emotions.( gal 5:22-26) verse 23!!! SELF Control!

And then you will, as I have, mature in both grace for both yourself,as we are a work in progress( Phil 1:6) and for others as well, gaining great knowledge through our Lord Jesus!!( 2 Peter 3:18!) Now for you this may never have been a problem,so find out what has been.( 2 Cor 10:4-7) Using God's own Word against ones own sorry flesh works wonders sis!! LOL Hope this helps you.

Not sure what the "soap method" is, but just be aware that there is a difference between reading the Bible (primarily for devotional purposes) and studying the Bible (in order to grasp Bible truth, particularly Gospel truth).

So yes, you could begin by reading the Gospel of John (always a good idea), but then you will need to study it verse by verse and word by word. If you have not invested in a Strong's Exhaustive Concordance, you should do so. Furthermore, although many people will suggest that you read paraphrases and modern language translations of the Bible, you would be wise to stick with the King James Bible (the Authorized Version) and search out the concordance for words which are not clear. Also, a KJV with marginal references will help you to see how one verse or one word relates to others on the same subject. Finally, memorize Scripture as you go along, since that is critical in your spiritual warfare (which will be unavoidable).

Hi melly4jesus,

I hope you will know that Jesus is 4 Melly !!!! That is the witness we all should have so others can hope in Him too for all things.

Romans 8:[SUP]31 [/SUP]What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?[SUP] 32 [/SUP]He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

Go before that throne of grace and trust Jesus Christ as your Good Shepherd to help you to understand and apply His words rightly in the King James Bible.

James 1:[SUP]4 [/SUP]But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.[SUP] 5 [/SUP]If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.[SUP] 6 [/SUP]But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.[SUP] 7 [/SUP]For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.[SUP]8 [/SUP]A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Hebrews 4:[SUP]12 [/SUP]For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.[SUP]13 [/SUP]Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.[SUP] 14 [/SUP]Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.[SUP]15 [/SUP]For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.[SUP]16 [/SUP]Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Read it cover to cover just like a book. If I remember correctly, if you read 5 chapters a day you will read the whole bible in one year.

Note- it is so important to read even the stuff most would consider boring- like each name in the geneologies. Try to sound them out, because things will pop out at you for better understanding, but you can't make those connections if you skip reading 'puzzle pieces'.

Just make it part of your daily, and yearly routine. Read the Bible straight through every year.

I read it through eSword, and when studying it, also see what some well-trusted scholars wrote about that part. It sure beats the olden days when that required one bible, several commentaries, and a few Bible aids just to get the same info. (Approximately 2 feet of books surrounding you on a sofa, and heaven help you if you had to go to the bathroom urgently. lol)

I read it chronologically the first time, being more interested in its historical points rather than actually eating from it (bread of life).

For new Christians, it is recommended to start with Romans. You may find it interesting to read about the letters to the churches too. Then, the gospels. You may want to read Deuteronomy and Leviticus last, if you get bored easily :)

Melly...The only advice i can give you is to be led by The Holy Spirit Himself:)...He will lead you, He will open your Spiritual ears...Before you read anything, ask the Lord to lead you, when something pricks your ears, STOP and ponder, the word of our Llord is our daily bread, it feeds us, even a small crust will keep us from starvation...Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with ALL your heart, and lean not on YOUR own understanding, in ALL your ways acknowledge Him, and He WILL direct your paths:)...xox...

Some advise from book of Joshua1;8 8."This Book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shall meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shall make thy way prosperous, and then thou shall have good success".
