Is it good to attack sin? I find myself always attacking pride. I try not to attack people—just pride.

Ephesians 4: 30-31 "And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice."

1 John 3:4-6 "Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him."

Revelation 3:5 " [For] He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels."

When I read the bible and it's position on sin, it's obvious that God does not want us to sin. However, I have found that in and of my strength that I am absolutely powerless to do anything about it. How am I supposed to stop sinning when I'm the one who desires to sin in the first place? The flesh is truly corrupt and nothing good can come from it!

However, all is not lost, praise God!

1st Corinthians 10:13 "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it."

John 8:34-36 Then Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed!"

John 8:31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

2 Peter 1:3-4 "His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires."

James 4:7-8 "Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you."

Romans 8: 1-14
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus] who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

1 John 2: 1-10

My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

Brethren, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning. Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining. He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him."

Jude 1:22-26 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord,be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen."

Scripture is clear that (1) While it possible that there might issues in our lives that God may not be pleased with that we could be unaware of, intentional - premeditated sin is a choice.

(2) In the moment of temptation, frustration or whatever the situation might be that you are tempted to sin, you have a choice to fulfill the temptations of the flesh or to turn (submit) to the Holy Spirit, putting your trust in and focus on Him that He will deliver you in that moment of temptation with His mercy, peace, and joy for "His strength is made perfect in our weakness".

This my friends is that true nature of God's Grace: that not only is He willing to forgive us of past mistakes, He is also willing to intervine in the very moment of temptation to deliver us from possible present and future mistakes. We serve both a mighty and merciful God!

We can't but God can. You and I are powerless to do anything about it however, the bible is clear, that if we turn to the Holy Spirit in the moment of temptation, He will deliver us from that temptation. :)

Ah but Jesus did destroy sin in his body. And he can in anyone else too. He didn't need bullets, because this war is not carnal. He did it in love. He took the bullets of sin on himself so that anyone who is standing behind him will not get hit. As long as you are protected by him then you will not die, but if you are not, you will surely get hit. And the end of that is death. May Jesus bless you.

p.s and this is that NEW NATURE.

We as believers were not given the Holy Spirit to pray to, to worship or turn to. The Holy Spirit was given to fill us, guide and lead us and reveal the words of Christ to us as the truth to walk in by faith. The Spirit prays with us and for us when we do not know how to pray. If we desire any gift we ask God for that gift, and if given, it will be given to us by the agency of the Holy Spirit. We thank Jesus Christ for dying and shedding His blood for our sins and the Spirit reveals that precious truth to our heart that we might worship God the Son. When we sin the Holy Spirit convicts our hearts and we confess our sin to the Father, who is faithful to forgive us and cleanse us through the blood of His Son.

The Spirit is our tutor and our comforter. When we abide in Christ and walk in the light by faith through the promises of God, the Spirit bears fruit in our life. We have the fruit of love, joy and peace keeping us inwardly. We have the fruit of longsuffering, gentleness and goodness for others. We are exercised in the fruit of faithfulness, meekness and temperance toward God as we have fellowship with the Father and the Son through the Spirit. Our communion with the Holy Spirit is through the words of truth that have come to us through the Son. The fellowship of love that we have with the Father and the Son is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit and we have that love to love God, to love ourselves, to love our neighbor and to love one another.

We pray to the Father to deliver us from evil, to give us our daily bread and to forgive us when we sin. It is not the job or function of the Spirit to forgive us and when we need bread, the Father provides that bread and it will be through the Son who is the bread of Life. We are to eat His flesh and drink His blood to have life in us and that life is eternal and when we believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation the Holy Spirit is given unto us by promise, as the Spirit of promise. We do not believe upon the Spirit for salvation we believe upon the Son who was sent to shed His blood for the remission of sins. We receive and are given the Spirit by the Father and through the Son, so that we can know and be taught how to direct our worship both to the Father and to the Son in spirit (human spirit) and truth.

I don't recall saying anything about praying to or worshiping the Holy Spirit himself as some sort of separate entity somehow distinct from God the Father or Jesus Christ. I personally, do not struggle with the legalistic idea(s) that we must either view the Father / Spirit / Son separately as the Trinity or as a single entity (oneness).

You yourself have professed Jesus to be God Himself in the flesh. I see no fault in that. Keeping that in mind, I don't see the problem with associating the Spirit of God (ie. the Holy Spirit) with the Godhead. To do so would be like insisting that your hands somehow possess a separate will and set of motives than your brain. Scripture plainly states that the Father and the Spirit operate as one.

Why make things more complicated than they have to be? :)

Clarification is edification not complication, so that we can live in the specfics of truth and not just in generalities. God wants us to live by every word of God and to bring every thought in subjection unto obedience. Just think of the greatness of God that desires that we have every single thought to be from Him right down to the decimal point. We have much to do and we are to do it with an attitude of love and faith-rest and confidence toward God.

It looks as though we do agree on some things. :) I'm sure we both agree that bringing every thought under subjection is not an easy task by no means and one that we are incapable of doing without relying on the help of the Holy Spirit to remind of all the precious promises of God that we may now partake of due to Christ's accomplishments on the cross.

quote - Heb 12:1 'Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.'

We are so caught up as believers that when we sin we have to repent and if we don't repent we think we have some kind of problem with our heart not being right before God. This is what happens, we tell God that we repent of the sin we committed and later we do it again. Then we live in guilt or condemnation and question whether we truly repented with the right motive, because someone told us that if we truly repented we would not do it again.

This verse in Heb 12 is speaking of a sin that besets us. A besetting sin is one that is always around and clings to us like a heavy coat that drags us down and hinders us from running the race. The scriptures are perfectly clear as to what we are to do about this clinging sin. We 'lay it aside' , which means we strip it off and take it off like we would a heavy coat. Laying aside that sin has nothing to do with repenting but just put it off or take it off and hang it up. Don't let that sin do what it is doing to you, don't let it have dominion and weigh you down. Don't put that coat back on because you are running a race.

There is no guilt when you lay it aside, no one has to counsel you about repenting the right way and get you involved in all these mental gymnastics of having the right motive. Many people have gone to a brother who has a besetting sin and they get all serious and tell them they have to repent or they will have to bring it before the church. That's not wisdom or even intelligent nor does it have anything to do with the grace of God. All they needed to say to their brother was, 'Hey this thing is weighing you down, making you unhappy, just get rid of it and put it away. Getting sin out of your life should be easy not difficult. Jesus said this in Mt 11:29,30...

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

He was saying put off the sin that besets you and put on My yoke and learn of Me. My yoke is easy and my burden is light. That sin won't give you rest because it is weighing you down, but you will find rest in Me when you put Me on. - unquote

This is where we tend to disagree. To me, sin is nothing short of rebellion and it is not to be taken lightly. Yes, scripture states in several places that we are to set these things aside however, that does not mean that we should fill our days with busyness in the hopes of keeping our mind off of our weaknesses. To me this is just another form of trusting in good works and it is very doubtful that this kind of works will truly impact the lives of others for the kingdom (ie, they will not be anointed by God).

Instead, we need to set time aside to read and study His word, to meditate on his promises thus placing these promises deep inside our heart and minds so that they become a part of us, the way we think, the words we say, the things do. We need to take to both pray and listen to God. Embracing not only his love, his grace, his peace, etc but also any personal revelations concerning character flaws that He might find unpleasant that we may or may not be aware of. We especially need to understand his heart, not only toward us but also for others. That way the good works that we do will be done with the right motives, motives that God can use to create miracles. :)

We need to truly KNOW Him before we can ever truly represent Him in a world where religion is the norm.

It is very difficult to refute sound doctrine and the finished work of Christ and when believers try to do this they have no continuity in their thinking concerning the things of God and the cross of Christ. They start to subtitute the cross with the Spirit, and replace sound doctrine with the gifts. When you do that it all it does is cause strife and confusion. This is why we need to be under a pastor-teacher that God has raised up in the church so that we can be under sound doctrine and teaching that will edify believers, bring unity and help us grow in grace and knowledge of Christ

What you say might be true in certain churches but that is because they no longer embrace sound doctrine. They take sin lightly and have reduced the Holy Spirit to nothing more than a "seal", a type of rubber band or bunji cord tied around their waistes preventing them from falling into the fires of hell as they continue to flirt with disaster by indulging in the desires of the flesh. They shrug it off as no big deal when the lost scoff at them when they try to share the gospel because the lost sees them as nothing more than hypocrites (because they are). They try to reason away unanswered prayer with the "soveriegnty of God" as their lives crumble physically, financially and relationally as a direct result of the sin in their lives (you reap what you sow after all). They live complacent, defeated and unanointed lives because they have embraced doctrines of compromise taught by sinful men. This is the condition of the modern church.

Thankfully it wasn't always this way. I praise God for men like John Hus, like George Fox, like George Whitefield, like Charles Finney, like Andrew Murray who saw and understood the complacency and spiritual deadness of the church in comparison to scripture during the era in which they lived then sought God's face for answers. God rewarded their convictions with an anointing that would change the lives of millions through out their perspective generations. And I do so pray that God will do the same in this generation for those who see and understand the complacency and spiritual deadness of the modern church in comparison to scripture, who will turn to God in humility and brokenness for answers.

Father God I humbly pray that You will release that same anointing today in our generation...

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Absolutely. When we understand that true biblical freedom is not simply ignoring our past, present or future sin but rather coming to the realization that sin is indeed a choice, one that we can walk away from when we find our satisfaction in the person of Jesus Christ and his many promises for our lives rather than finding satisfaction by indulging in the desires of the flesh.

A very good point made here Ramon.
Jesus has already won the battle against sin through love, by His sacrifice on the cross.
Ive battled smoking for many ears, Ive let myself be despondant under the conviction of this, afraid
because I cannot beat this addiction.
I constantly looked for ways to overcome this.
Then Jesus showed me He already won this through His love for us, this love that is filled with obedience.
Jesus let me know that He would bring this in me.
I wasnt sure how, but Ive put my trust in His care and healing.
In the last few months, I have found myself setting aside my ciggerette.
Putting it out.
Not because of condemnation, but because of my love for Jesus, for God Our Father.
Im choosing God, over smoking.
Because I love God more than smoking.
I havnt fully quit yet, but I know in Jesus this will be healed, overcome.
Not by a attack, or condemnation.
But through love.
Do not dissmiss the fear of God, because this is wisdom.
But , the love of Jesus, has brought the desire to give up one more ciggarette each day.
Thankyou Lord Jesus, for out of ashes, you brought victory through love.

God bless.
