Is hell a place of torture, for ever and ever?
This is preached for centuries, that the wicked will be tortured for ever in burning hell.
This is just a scare tactic bringing people to join by fear,by the precept of men.
hell is simply the grave where the dead goes, for Jesus was also in hell for 3days.
Pslm16:10For thou will not leave my soul in HELL; neither wilt thou suffer thine HOLY ONE to see CORRUPTION: tHIS IS THE REASON WHY GOD RAISED HIM UP ON THE THIRD DAY. fOR CORRUPTION STARTS ON THE FOURTH DAY.

God is not a cruel being that burns the wicked for ever and ever, this is just giving God a bad name; He is a loving God that loves good and hates bad,for the sake of the good he must do away with evil, not preserve it in hell, but to totally banish evil from the universe.
The wicked will go to hell (the grave) then resurected in the second resurection then judged, then cast into the LAKE OF FIRE,to burn to ashes. They will be no more.

How can one live happily in heaven while your loved ones are burning in hell screaming and yelling night and day for ever and ever? In the case of lazarus, this is just a description explained symbolically, One can not hear the ones in hell screaming from heaven; what kind of place would heaven be? It would be a terrible place.Dont advertise your God as being a cruel God.All the wicked will have a chance in the 2nd resurection, they will be judged according to their works, and if they dont make it then; that only means that they are realy, realy bad,and they dont need to exist, for the sake of the good ones.To make evil
of non existence for ever. HISTORY.

Hell will always exist. We are sent there for a period of time each time we sin. The only way to stay there forever, I think, is if we never repent of our sins.

I want to say I totally agree with what this man just said. there is no hell. I have done extensive study on the subject, read in multiple versions of the bible, read a few books on the subject. I have a strongs concordance and I know the meanings of the words Hades, Sheol and Gehenna which are the 3 words translated hell in the KJV of the bible.

Another subject that would help would be "the character of God", geez a merciful God would have no use for a place of eternal toment. It makes no logical sence. therefore logically there is no hell and theologically there is no hell. Its basically leftover supersticion from the dark ages, its understandable but incorrect.

That being said I want to say this.

Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. James 1:17

ALL things good and perfect come from God. Therefore that is where I want to be. Where there is plenty of good and perfect things. Amen?

And if we reject God? And we dont want anything to do with Him? We will get exactly that. The problem is we will go where God is not. That place has no good or perfect things. Correct? That...is hell.

However we also know that God is life. Therefore no God, no life. Therefore in hell you do not live forever in torment but you will cease to exist. In darkness. Forever. This is also biblical and there litterally dozens of verses that prove this biblically.

One other thing that should be mentioned is the fact that in order to recieve eternal life you have to be born again. If you are born again you are NOT going to hell. If you are not born again you do not have eternal life therefore how is it that they will live forever in torment? hmm!!??

the doctrine of man being born with an imortal soul is a Catholic doctrine and is NOT biblical. we protestants PROTEST these kinds of eroneous doctrines and that why we are called protestants. Unfortunately Modern day Christians are mostly illiterate as far as biblical things are concerned so most dont know what they believe and they just follow the crowd.

however that aside, if we dont have an imortal soul the question again is how can I burn forever in hell?

You see no matter what angle you look at this subject the doctrine of hell makes no sense. It makes no sense. Hell is an eroneous supersticious doctrine that unfortunately many still believe in.

Will believeing in hell change YOUR personal destiny? Absolutely not. But you would be wrong theologically and Jesus is truth. Therefore its better you KNOW the truth. Amen?

Fact: there is no hell, unless of course you are saying hell is "the grave" ,which is the correct meaning of the word. In that case you would be correct there is a hell. Hell is...."the grave" end of subject.

Rev. 20:15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

Rev. 20:10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night FOREVER AND EVER.

So verse 10 says forever and ever in the lake of fire, then 15 says those whose names are not in the Book of Life are cast into the lake of fire. So it is Biblically established that whoever is thrown into the lake of fire is in forever.

So I would have to say, Yes, hell is a place of torture. Shalom

LAke of Fire sounds like torture to me.
Being separated from God, life and any other thing done under the sun ever again sounds like torture to me.

Remember God is going to melt this earth, only to create a new heaven and earth. Even the Lake of Fire where death and hell are thrown into will be melted and done away with. Evil will not exist ever again.

It's a tricky one isn't it?

9And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a loud voice, "If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10he also will drink the wine of God’s wrath, poured full strength into the cup of his anger, and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name."

revelation 20:10
10and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Yes God is love, yes his mercy endureth for ever but bible also teaches of his other side that is called wrath, wrath of the lamb is going to be terrible on the wicked who has not received the grace of God that has been given to us.
Bible says i have a mansion in heaven,i havent seen it but Jesus said i am going to prepair a place for u,and i stick by it..
someone asked me how can u rejoice in heaven for eva when u know there are billions of soul being tormented in hell..I dont know, and i dont have an answer to it but what i do know is God is goign to wipe away my tears, there wil be no more pain,no more sorrows up there i dont know probably i will never know those ppl ever existed i just dont know but some how he is going to remove all my pains and we will enter into his joy for ever amen

some people preach on hell with absolute anger and in judgement but i think its a subject that preachers are to preach in knees in brokeness and thru prayers, cuz i think spirit of God is very sensitive in this matter, why cuz i guess his heart breaks for every soul that goes there and preachers by hundreds preach on hell with right words and cream and yet no brokenness..
Father poured out his wrath on Jesus, what he stopped Abraham from doin to his son,God completed it by stabbing his son to save the one who beleives on his son,cuz he is dead no more,HES ALIVE!..
I say this cuz the gosple has only been in my country for 55 years, and its an honour to be found by God in a nation where ppl worship the things of this world, can u imagine how many generation in my country died wid out hearing of his grace...thank God we have heard his grace and i pray that we all grow in him,cuz still there are so many place where gosple has neevr been preached, its not time to slack out but to be excited in the Lord

Jude 1:7
(7) Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

Sodom and
Gomorrha are an example of what will happen they are not burning today the punishment is eternal but not the punishing

Matthew 25:46
(46) And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

J
eremiah 7:17-20
(17) Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
(18) The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.
(19) Do they provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?
(20) Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.

This is talking about Jerusalem when it was destroyed under Babylon because of their sins it says the fire would not be quenched, but yet the fire went out this is what will happen. The fire will be on earth and He will create a new earth so that means the fire will go out. The punishment is eternal not the punishing.

2 Peter 3:10-11
(10) But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
(11) Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
Revelation 21:1
(1) And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
I like those big words. Very powerful. It is the Word of God, none the less. Thank you for that. Yes I have read those words over and over and over.

but what about these words
Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be NO MORE DEATH, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the FORMER THINGS are passed away.

Rev 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make ALL THINGS NEW.

Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and the murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolators, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: WHICH IS THE SECOND DEATH.

Death means to not be alive.

I do believe in the lake of fire and all the ungodly and wicked will be thrown in there. A place none of us want to go, but I cant see them being tortured forever. However the scriptures say that they will be tormented forever, so how long is forever ?

What about this one

Exodus 31:16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.

Wasn't that covenant replaced with a better one (Christ) Perpetual means forever as well, but we are not under that law any more. Confusing isn't it?

This is not physical death, this is spiritual death, completely seperated from the presence of God eternally, on top of burning forever.
If we are dead and that's it, then what is the consequence for our sins? If we are dead then we don't know it, therefore we don't suffer for our sins. So if I live for God and go to Heaven I win. If I live in sin and when I die that's it, I cease to exist, then I win also for I don't know I'm seperated from God because I'm dead and don't exist anymore. Wow, the Bible puts alot of wholes in that whole concept.

]
That covenant has not been replace in any way. No where in scripture does it say it has. Yeshua renewed that covenant. When God says forever, that is exactly what He meant. Shalom

When we die it is not over! And the second death doesn't mean it's over either. Read the Scriptures that are posted on this thread. FOREVER! People will be tormented FOREVER. So I believe Hell is real and that people will experience hell.
Here is something you may not have considered. Jesus said, Matthew 10:28 "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. God is the one who can destroy both soul and body in Hell. Satan or mankind could never put you in Hell.

Jude 7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as and EXAMPLE, suffering the vengeance of ETERNAL FIRE.

Last time I checked "eternal" was another word for forever. Shalom

Is hell a place of torture, for ever and ever?

God is not a cruel being that burns the wicked for ever and
ever,this is just giving God a bad name;

The wicked will go to hell (the grave) then resurected in the
second resurection then judged, then cast into the LAKE OF
FIRE
,to burn to ashes. They will be no more.

that only means that they are realy, realy bad,and they dont
need to exist, for the sake of the good ones.

''wakeup''.

* You need to do a study on Gehenna and Sheol to start.

* You need to understand it is NOT once forever, but over and over again, Generation to
Generation.

* Hell is the punishment for evil people and evil societies. War is Hell. An inferno like the
World Trade Center, or Hiroshima or Nagasaki is Hell, and the Lake of Fire. In just the
short history of the U.S., what generation has not seen a war?

Revelation 21:8
But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

Definitely sounds hotter than here in Arizona!!!

Hell is real, for the bible says so. I'm sad for those who will be left behind. I don't want anyone go to hell. :(

P.S. Heaven is God's kingdom, where there is peace and no suffering; His perfect kingdom. I know that he will wipe away my memories of hell, fear and all things of sadness, like those I know that might be left behind. I will probably not remember them at all. It saddens me now, as there are some I love who are not Christian, and I don't want to see them left behind and I don't want to be separated from them :( :( :(

Hell/the Lake of Fire is a place of destruction for mortals (man) and a place of eternal torment for the immortal (Satan and his fellow fallen angels). The destruction is an "everlasting punishment" because, unlike physical death that we all will experience, those who go to the second death will never be raised again. The destruction is permanent (everlasting). Immortality is a gift that God gives to His children following the resurrection and thus one we will enjoy eternally, not the natural condition of man.
