If a person examines this on a personal plain, in spiritual context;

Jesus said, unless you become as one of these children, you will not inherit the Kingdom of Heaven. Even a person in his 50's who is a new Christian, is as a little child in our Heavenly Father's sight. If a person intentionally leads that child into sin, that person has committed murder; Just like Satan did in the Garden of Eden when he led Adam and Eve into sin. This is why Jesus said Satan was a murderer from the beginning. I used Adam and Eve because we can see this more clearly than the one third of the angels who fell...

On a personal level, in spiritual terms...,this is murder. And when we lived in our sin, we led someone, or many others into sin. One does not sin but what he also takes someone with him.....

But if you are speaking according to the things which seem right to a man (in your question), you decide.

we should not kill, we should not murder. does it matter what justification you use for ending someones life. is that something we should take before God in our judgement? any person could rationalize or justify why they took someones life. they could so the same to justify almost any sins they commit. we do not justify our sins, we repent of them. by the same measure in which we judge so too shall we be judged.

when i hear this kind of question i think of moses. when God decided that he would take the first born sons of egypt, he sent an angel to take their lives. we are not here to dispense Gods justice, God is quite capable of doing that. will any of us stand before God and justify ourselves and our actions? our duty is to pray for the unrepentant sinner, in the hopes that God will open their heart and lead them to repentance. if anything, we should do all we can to prolong the life of an unrepentant sinner. we know the judgement they will face and do not wish for any to be damned. no matter how horrible the sin, we should hope for the sinner. as christians we follow and enforce Gods law on ourselves. in the hopes that our example will lead others to do the same. it is not our job to enforce Gods law on others, God is far more capable than us to do so. have faith in Gods justice and understand, in the end, all things serve God

If one claims that it is, "Thou shalt not kill"... we have serious problems. Anyone eat food that isn't synthetic? What about those Israelites going into Canaan? Oh my! A contradiction!

This is an article from:

hebrew4christians.com/Scripture/Torah/Ten_Cmds/Sixth_Cmd/sixth_cmd.html
לא תרצח
lo tirtsach

Hebraic Insight...

The Jewish sages note that the word retsach applies only to illegal killing (e.g., premeditated murder or manslaughter) - and is never used in the administration of justice or for killing in war. Hence the KJV translation as "thou shalt not kill" is too broad.

Since man is made in the image of God, his life is infinitely precious-only God Himself has the right to give and take life. In the Mishnah it is written, "Why was only one man (i.e., Adam) created by God? - to teach that whoever takes a single life destroys thereby a whole world."

But murder can be figurative as well as literal. The Talmud notes that shaming another publicly is like murder, since the shame causes the blood to leave the face. Moreover, gossip or slander are considered murderous to the dignity of man. The Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers) states, "The evil tongue slays three persons: the utterer of the evil, the listener, and the one spoken about…" The Lord Jesus also linked the ideas of our words and attitudes with murder (see Matt. 15:19)

Get out your Bible and see how Exodus 20:13 is worded. King James Version will read "Thou shall not kill".

(17) And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
(18) He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
(19) Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

The King James Version is worded incorrectly in Isaiah 9:6, Romans 8:16,26, and Hebrews 6:6, so it is also incorrect in Exodus 20:13! The KJV is not the original infallible, inspired, preserved, inerrant Word of God.

Jesus is the example... Did He kill? Did He murder? Nope, so any way of making another person dead is a "NO-No"... Look at it this way, who is the Father of death and who is the Father of LIFE? Easy to see the two has NOTHING in common! Also in Afrikaans it says... "Jy mag nie DOODMAAK nie!" Lteeraly translated it says... Thou hall not make dead!... Good no more debate, you are NEVER permitted to take the life of another human being, no matter WHAT!

Jesus answered this question, right?

If one claims that it is, "Thou shalt not kill"... we have serious problems. Anyone eat food that isn't synthetic? What about those Israelites going into Canaan? Oh my! A contradiction!
Jimmy Diggs,

There are no "serious problems" with the KJV & Revised Standard Version (RSV) of the Bible having "Thou shall not kill" as the 6th Commandment. You seem confused when you bring up "Anyone eat food that isn't synthetic?" This only applies to God commanding us not to kill other humans.

As far as "those Israelites going into Canaan", ya, that was c. 1451 BC - 1,445 years before the birth of Y'shua74* and add another 600 years before the birth of Muhammad74. So for the last 1,300 years, we have worship of the One God(7_4) by the Jewish74 people, Christians, and Muslims, yet, there is alot of killing of God's children by His other children going on. How to solve this conundrum? What is God telling us today? "Thou shall not kill".

Around 29 AD, Jesus74 the Messiah74 was asked, "Which one of God's Commandments is the most important?" IESVS74 answered by quoting the Golden Rule, which technically isn't one of the 10 Commandments or the "613 extended Commandments of Leviticus". However, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is thee coolest philosophical quote ever and certain answers the question posed here as "Thou shall not kill"! Right?

"You shall not kill" - Mt 19:18 (RSV)

Laodicea,

You didn't say what Bible version you were quoting from - which one was it? In the Revised Standard Version, it reads...

Matthew 19:17-19
(17) "And he said to him, 'Why do you ask me about what is good? One there is who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.' (18) He said to him, 'Which?' And Jesus said, 'You shall not kill, You shalt not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shalt not bear false witness, (19) Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

In tmes of WAR we should defend ourselves, by KILLING FIRST! hahaha, Then we theow the command ...THOU SHALT NOT KILL... Out the window! ..So God you should rephrase this command like this.... "Thou shalt not kill, except in war, then make sure you kill first otherwise you loose the war! Even if it is your brother that wants to rob you of your coat, make sure you protect your coat, and kill him first!"
Nope! God says why is there war and fightings amongst you, is it not becasue of the lust that wars in your members? See why there is war...Becasue the lust of one desires the other's posession, and the lust of the other is to keep the posession. If you just let him have it, then there is no war, only theft! And the one stealing will rot in hell if he does not repent, and the other is blessed for not fighting, and he will go to heaven!

Thou shalt not kill EVER!!!

Jimmy, you go work out when Israel followed God and when they did not. Please show me who is the murderer from the beginning. Please show me where wars come from. And please show me who the people that does kill follow, God or Satan!

When an Israelite kills a two year old child, did Jesus tell him to do it? Who did Jesus say whose will are they doing when they want to kill, His or the murderer from the BEGINNING?

Like i say again,.. Israel shouted... Crucify Him crucify Him, and He was God! so when did they change from the murderer command to God's command from ...Thou shalt not kill,,,, Yet they crucified their GOD! When was Israel right in god's eyes? When did they know who God is? Jesus said ...If you had KNOWN my Father you would have KNOWN ME! but you know NOT my Father and you KNOW NOT ME! You want to do the will of your father... and you are from your father... John 8:44... Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Israel fell away a long time before Jesus came... They have ALWAYS murdered even the prophets! So let us reconsider their actions, and their source!

With the commandment "thou shalt not kill" we need to take all the texts into consideration
1 Samuel 15:1-3
(1) Samuel also said unto Saul, The LORD sent me to anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the LORD.
(2) Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.
(3) Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

Genesis 9:6
(6) Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

Matthew 19:17-19
(17) And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
(18) He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
