I have used many different bibles to study from over the years, I even have a German bible from my time spent working with young people in Austria. Although I do not use the Message bible to study from, every now I read something from there that really sums things up in modern day terms. Im just loving this introduction to the prophets, I couldn't have worded it better myself and it still stands so very true today.Prophets were never excepted back in them days, only years after did people realise who they were. But their message is still very much the same today.

" Over a period of several hundred years, the Hebrew people gave birth to an extraordinary number of prophets- men and women distinguished by the power and skill with which they presented the reality of God. They delivered Gods commands and promises and living presence to communities and nations who had been living on god-fantasies and god-lies.

Everyone more or less believes in God. But most of us do our best to keep God on the margins of our lives or. failing that, refashion God to suit our conveniences. Prophets insist that God is sovereign center, not off in the wings awaiting our beck and call. And the prophets insist we deal with God as God reveals himself. not as we imagine Him to be.

These men and women woke people up to the sovereign presence of god in their lives. They yelled, they wept, they rebuked, they soothed, they challenged, they comforted. They used words with power and imagination, whether blunt or subtle.

Prophets train us in the discerning the difference between the ways of this world and the ways of the gospel, keeping us present IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD.

We dont read very many pages into the Prophets before realizing that there was nothing easy going about them. Prophets were not popular figures. They never achieved celebrity status. They were decidedly uncongenial to the temperaments and dispositions of the people with whom they lived. And the centuries have not mellowed them. Its understandable that we should have a difficult time coming to terms with them. They are not particularly sensitive to our feelings. They have very modest, should we say, relationship skills. We like leaders, especially religious leaders, who understand our problems, leaders with a touch of glamour, leaders who look good on TV. The hard rock reality is that prophets don't fit into our way of life. For a people who are accustomed to "fitting God" into THEIR lives or as we like to say, "making room for God", the Prophets are hard to take or easy to dismiss. The God of whom the prophet speaks is far too large to fit into our lives. If we want anything to do with God, we have to fit into Him.

The Prophets are not "reasonable" accommodating themselves to what makes sense to us. They are not diplomatic, tactfully negotiating an agreement that allows us a "say" in the outcome. What they do is haul us unceremoniously into reality far too large to be accounted for but our explanations and expectations. They plunge us into mystery, immense and staggering.

Their words and visions penetrate the illusions with which we cocoon ourselves from reality. We humans have an enormous capacity for denial and for self-deceit. We incapacitate ourselves from dealing with the consequences of sin, for facing judgement, for embracing truth. Then the prophets step in and help us to first recognise and then enter the new life God has for us, the life that hole in God opens up.

They dont explain God. They shake us out of the old conventional habits and small-mindedness, of trivializing god-gossip, and set us on our feet in wonder and obedience and worship. If we insist on understanding them before we live into them , we will NEVER GET IT.

Basically, the prophets did 2 things. They worked to get people to accept the worst as Gods judgement-not religious catastrophe or a political disaster, but judgement. If what seems like the worst turns out to be Gods judgement, it can be embraced, not denied or avoided, for Gods good and intends our salvation.So. judgement, while certainly not what we human beings anticipate in our planned future, can never be the worst that can happen. It is the best, for it is the work of God to set the world, and us, right.

And the Prophets worked to get people who were beaten down to open themselves up to hope in God's future. In the wreckage of exile and death and humiliation and sin, the prophet ignited hope, opening up lives to the new work of salvation that God is about at all times and ever where.

One of the bad habits that we pick up early in our lives is separating things and people into secular and sacred. We assume that the secular is what we are more or less in charge of our jobs, our time, our entertainment, our government, our social relations. The sacred is what God has charge of: worship and the bible, heaven and hell, church and prayers.

We then contrive to set aside a sacred place for God, designed, we say, to honer God but really intended to keep God in His place, leaving us free to have the final say about everything else that goes on.

Prophets will have none of this. They contend that EVERYTHING, absolutely EVERYTHING, takes place on sacred ground. God has something to say about EVERY aspect of our lives. The way we feel and act in this so-called privacy of our own hearts and homes, the way we make our money and the way we spend it, the politics we embrace, the wars we fight, the catastrophes we endure, the people we hurt and the people we help. NOTHING is hidden from the scrutiny of God, nothing is exempt from the rule of God, nothing escapes the purposes of God. Holy, Holy, Holy.

Prophets make it IMPOSSIBLE to evade God or make detours around God. Prophets insists on receiving God in every nook and cranny of life.

For a Prophet, God....is more real.......than the next door neighbour."

There is defiantly a misunderstanding of prophets when people think all they are there for is to "foretell the future"

well, i suppose we could get to that.
i'll guess you've had this conversation before.

a couple of questions:

- are you a prophetess?
- do you recommend any known authoritative prophets revealing new things we need to know?
i'd like to look at their words.

I would suggest you google known prophets...but then TEST the spirits. A real prophet would tell you to go check anything out with God first before you took ANYTHING on board they said.

This post was to just give a good description of how wrongly they are perceived....i.e just fortune tellers.

From my own understanding and experience, many powerful anointed prophets do not seek fame or fortune, you would not of heard of them. They work behind the scenes. The 5 fold ministry...Apostles prophets etc are FOUNDATION stones, not ornate steeples or arches in full view of everyone. Foundation stones in a building are always hidden in a building. I would be careful of those in the limelight.

yes, i've heard this before.
so why the suggestion to google?

if they're hearing from God, shouldn't we have heard of them?:)
we know all the real prophets' names. they're recorded.

The 5 fold ministry

I said google because you may find writings of people who are not well known. And if they are hearing from God why would you hear of them? Would not a real prophet keep as obscure as possible? Did Jesus not tell people not to go around telling others they got healed after healed them?Even Jesus didnt want to draw attention to Himself.

Its never about drawing attention to one self, its ALWAYS about drawing attention to Him.

And if people are looking to prophets, why are they doing it? To get closer to God or to discredit them?

Here is the writing of one lady who calls herself a prophet, Wendy Alec This is is what she says about the end time prophets.....I guess you could try and test that?

Ha! Says the Lord. For surely in this age and in this season, My prophets are about to do some strange and some extraordinary things. Yes prepare. Prepare yourselves for the extraordinary for I am raising up a people, I am raising up a company of prophets who will act as an abrasion to the body of Christ, for surely there are many of My servants who will even question and wonder at the manner in which My prophets have been called to walk in these last days. For I am raising my prophets from the East and from the West, from the South and from the North. And not many are known and not many are well versed, but they are well versed in Me, says the Lord.
For these ones, yes these ones, yes, their faces are set like flint. They will not heed the voice or the system or the politics and manipulations of man or minister. They shall one by one come forth at this time. And they shall not heed or require mans favour or reward, for they are a strange and wonderful breed dedicated and holy unto the Lord. For they are neither bribable nor corruptible. For their master is neither mammon nor fame, nor favour. But their master is the Holy One of Israel. And so these ones shall arise, and many many of My ministers shall watch and stand ambivalent. And they shall come forth with a fierce countenance for they do not listen to the voice of man. For they have been trained in the desert place and wilderness. For they have been raised on misunderstanding and rejections. For they have walked being despised and passed over and have been measured by the judgements of man. And so it is they know come forh and shine like gold. They can be bought by no man, no ministry, no pastor nor elder.
For they are Mine, says the Lord. As refined by fire, they hold only to me. They speak only My words. They do only my deeds. And so it is that the first one shall rise, and I shall confirm his words with My hand. And then 10 shall arise close behind. And then 20, and then 100, and then 1000, like fire spreading across my church. And they shall raise their voices in judgement against the false systems of My Church. And they shall raise their hand even as Elijah and My signs and My judgements shall come forth.
And so it is that even My leading ministers shall stand back in wonder and receive these as My prophets for surely the fear and conviction of My Father shall fall upon them as they shall know that these are His, His alone. And so My ministers shall take heed. They shall take account of their ways and so it shall be that because of the fierceness of their rising, so my servants shall fall and repent. And so my church shall turn.
And so because of these mighty unseen ones, I shall stay my judgement. And even as Jonah stayed my hand at Ninevah, so shall my hand be stayed against this disobedient generation of My church. And so a great outpouring of My mercy shall come forth. Watch well and see this Terrible Company, for I tell you that even at this hour they rise in your midst. Take care and discern correctly that you may not be found having despised these strange and terrible ones, The Prophets of The Most High

Minor Prophets and Major Prophets and we all know the magger prophets.

You say there are no prophets today, but you would not know,

In the last 2000 years how would you know that there hasn’t been any miner prophet or even any magger prophets that have been shot down and stoned.

You wouldn’t know who God has used to accomplish his will in the little things in the last 2000 years.

Are you prophesying that there are no prophets?, have you had a vision, a dream, a revelation, saying that there are on prophets? , you must have had something because it’s not in the scriptures that there are no prophets.

There are two magger prophets in the future at least.

Revelation 11:10 And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.

Never mind the 144000 which are also first fruits like the disciples

Some prophets just cry agent’s city’s, and warn the wicked of their ways.

Some prophets just root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

God is in the little thing as well as the big things.

Since when has the so-called people of God listened to the prophets anyway, most of Gods people would say there are on prophets because, they only want to listen to the nice things smooth things, deceit

Matthew 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

And God is in the business of raising up the standard.

Isaiah 59:19 -When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.

These days someone with sound doctrine in this adulterous and sinful generation I would think would be classed as a prophet.

Isaiah 30:10 Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits.

To say there are no prophets is folly.

Proverbs 5:23 He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

if there are anointed prophets speaking for God, i don't understand why they are hiding/in obscurity?
wouldn't their message be equal to scripture in authority? so extremely important?
is their message(s) as important as the prophets and apostles in scripture?
then why aren't the words of God (they say) they have been given being distributed to the churches and added to canon?

Yes weve already been"warned" about these prophets.
Maybe this is an older prophecy because they are already here.
I like the part where they will not be well versed. Yup there here.

Im not a prophet...but i foresee a very long post coming soon :)

this part of the prophecy:

"My prophets are about to do some strange and some extraordinary things. Yes prepare"

Strange?
extraordinary?

Half the time this group type claims God never changes. So that either means Hes always
strange and extraordinary, or He's changing and im to prepare for "never" land.

So to sum it up we are looking for those who wont know the scriptures well
doing strange things. So we cant test them since they wont be well versed.
Neither will they have the ability to test themselves...but at least their heads will be
hard...nothing strange and extraordinary about that? so anyway?...................

There is one very important aspect of the love of God that they better know and practice or their ministry will fail and they will be exposed for who they are by the living God. Jesus laid His life down for sinners and for the undeserving and for the wicked. Christ was numbered among the transgressors and made His grave with the wicked and the rich in His death (Is 53). If these who have been prophesied come from God they will have the NT message of the mercy and grace of God and not one of judgment. Why do so many feel the need to make these kind of prophecies that always pronounce some kind of doom upon the church and body of Christ? God deals with those who are His and His ways are perfect and PASSED FINDING OUT!

Rom 11:33,34

33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counselor?

Yes, judgment will start at the house of God, but that is between Christ and the church and He will do it according to wisdom and sound judgment in the local church just as He did in (Rev 1-3). No one has the right to judge another in any area with any form of damnation or condemnation unless they have laid down their life first and allowed death to be worked in through the cross and God has called them to be a spectacle and the off-scouring of the earth (Lam 3:45, 1Cor 4:13). These better understand the message of the cross and Christ crucified or they just might be consumed by the fire of God's jealousy. It is fearful thing to fall into the hands of living God (Heb 10:30,31) who is a consuming fire...

Heb 12:25-29

25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:
26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.
27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
29 For our God is a consuming fire.

God deals with those who are His and His ways are perfect and PASSED FINDING OUT!

good catch Redster.
always the same M.O.
its because they plan to overthrow the church.
(as if......although many are falling for it in spite of the warnings)

Matthew 7:15
"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.

Matthew 24:11
And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.

Matthew 24:24
For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect--if that were possible.

Minor Prophets and Major Prophets and we all know the magger prophets.
no peter.
there are no more prophets today.

the minor prophets are all recorded.
they're not called 'minor' because they they're less important or in anyway different from the majors.
