I think the divorce rate among Christians is 51%, it's higher than that of the unsaved world. As far as those attending church being less likely to divorce, most adult church attenders are on their second and third marriages, especially the pastors. I think its still better to be with someone you are equally yoked with spiritually. It's just a matter of keeping an open mind in knowing that an unsaved person can become a saved one so we have to be careful about discounting them.
I don't believe a word of this. 'Most are on their 2nd and 3rd marriages'? Please!

actually, christian couples who pray together have a much lower rate of divorce. : ) there are multiple studies that show couples who pray together, study the bible together have much, much lower incidence of divorce and report higher marital satisfaction.

depending upon the studies the rate is in single digits, with some studies reporting less than one percent.

true story.

sadly, it's reported that only 4-6% of christian couples actually do that. something to think about.

Christians who pray together do not have a 1% divorce rate nationwide gypsygirl. Goodness, that's not true though it would be GREAT if it were.

First of all no study like that even exists at nameonline.net. Secondly, even if it did exist the author of the article you linked to asserts the scope was a private, non-scholarly, and limited to a single city.

Thirdly, the result is in complete contradiction to public scholarly studies that looked at the same thing.

If you want accurate statistics on this issue, they're available in the Journal of Marriage and Family (a scholarly peer reviewed social science journal).

The studies there clearly show that people who seriously practice a traditional religious faith have a divorce rate markedly lower than the general population and the single greatest factor is religious commitment and practice as a family (e.g. prayer, religious study, etc...) that runs less than half that of the general public.

Still why do you think the rate is so high? I think too often we just look at a band aid, not a complete fix. We need a fix as this creates millions of broken homes. To fix we must first identify the root problem.

Any ideas of the cause of this?
The cause is the false Gospel that is preached.

If both parties were truly redeemed from sin then they would be serving God in love, purity and truth and divorce would be out of the question. Unfortunately this is not generally happening and people are being presented with the "confess, trust and receive" message which eliminates heart purity from salvation. Thus with no true heart reformation taking place divorce is often an inevitable outcome.

I think the reason that divorce rates are lower among those who attend church is because, even though the Gospel message being preached is false, there is still a certain level of morality upheld. People in general have a form of godliness and this does restrain sin to some degree.

Yeah I also believe that couples that really know Yah, His Message and His Salvation would be much more likely stay together because the distracting things of the world would no longer be distracting...

Lol im single and never married because I have one rule/standard, my spouse would have to be into Yah as much or more than me... because if not, I know it would never last.

I know you have heard the divorce rate among Christians is close to the divorce rate of the world, around 50%. This is misleading information. 50% is the rate of those who simply claim Christianity; 30% is the divorce rate of Christians who actually attend a Church. That is 20% less likely to divorce if you attend church.
As long as the false gospel is being preached saying divorce and remarriage is OK then we cannot expect Christians to all of a sudden acquire the fear of God and awake from their spiritual drunkenness.
Many are happily on the broad path to destruction believing that they are going to heaven because their pastors tell them that is the case.
God is not mocked. Remarriage is adultery. Adulterers shall not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Really? I've never witnessed such a church. If they exist, I wouldn't attend. It's important to highlight the seriousness of sin and the complete and utter holiness of our God.

The divorce rate among christians is astonishing and shows just how far Satan has penetrated the church.
