I was talking to my mom and she says suicide and blasphemy of the holy spirit are both unforgivable sins. I asked her if she lied and died where would she go and she said she would go to heaven because she's a Christian. She says Christians would never take their own life, but I disagree. I mean I am a Christian and attempted suicide. I mean when you are really depressed its so hard to lean on Jesus. What do you guys think?

Suicide is the ultimate selfish act. It is all about "me", how "I" don't like what is going on. Tough luck to all those left behind trying to figure out what went wrong, who might blame themselves, or who will mourn "my" departure.

I agree in most cases. What would you say to the person who's dying a horrible death and know they are going to die anyway and are tired of the pain would that be selfish or sick and tired of pain?

I have been deliverd from depression and other symptoms like ADHD and socalled Bypolar. I think these are just names that doctors give because they don't know what else to call it.

Personaly I think that they are caused from the demonic realm.

I don't know your life but maybe you have let the door open for the enemy.

I advise you to get down on your knees and ask God to reveil whatever it is that is causing you to be depressed and be willing to give anything up. because there might be something in your life that is causing the devil to hinder you. It might be in you music, movies, maybe you have a grudge on someone. etc

I could be like everyone else and just tell you to keep hanging in there but I was in your shoes and I know many others that were and prozake is not the answer. If you are going to take a pill take fish oil.Your brain is made mostly of fat and those omaga 3 supplements help aid in brain function.

Whatever you do don't commit suicide that is exactly what the devil wants you to do.

Yeah.. there are kind of two views that are popular about salvation--

One is that if you don keep up good works.. if you fall away.. you lose salvation. The other is that a saved person will not fall away.. and will not rebel..

Neither, from what I know from the bible are right!

The problem with both of these views.. is there is an element of your own mix into salvation.. like somehow you earn it.. or have only made a conditional agreement with Jesus.

The truth is.. salvation is a completely free gift. Unearned, unmerited and unfavoured. John 3:16 explains this.. John 5:24.. heaps and heaps of verses.

It isn't a life long process.. it happens instantly the moment a saved person has entrusted their salvation with Jesus. Eternal life begins right then and there.

Of course.. this is a genuine.. from the heart trust in Jesus. And there will be some kind of fruit arising from have the Holy Spirit inside themselves.

But.. we have a free will in decision making.. and we can always muck up and do bad stuff because of our fallen nature.

The unforgiveable sin? Well this is rejecting salvation.. not accepting Jesus and then falling away.. or denying Jesus.. it is unforgiveable because the sin is never forgiven in the first place.. because the person never got saved to begin with!

When you rebel against your mum and dad.. do they no longer be your parents? NO!! They may distant themselves from you.. or you from them.. but the biological connection remains permanent till death.

Now.. Jesus' commitment to you is greater than that of parents.. because He has died for your sin and indwells you with His Holy Spirit! It is not bound by death.

SO

A christian will never fall away? NO! They may.. alot do.. but their salvation stays secure and eternal - because they had nothing do with the salvation given them.. except only asking for it.

Jesus is the preserver of our salvation.. not us.

So.. suicide will never seperate someone from God and send them to hell.. because the person cannot affect the salvation given them. It is Jesus guarding our salvation not us

(1Peter 1:23) Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Jesus gives us eternal life...

eternal.. means eternal! Never ending.. it is His promise! How can we break a promise given to us by Jesus? If we could .. we would have a TON of power.

It is the fact that salvation is secure that can lead to people sinning less... I know from many cases believing salvation is not secure just bring the person in further bondage to sin. It is like-- how do you flee addiction.. by believing you are condemned or worthless if you continue in it? Or that you are free from it.. dead to it.. and there is no condmenation for it?

But he that shall endure till the end, the same shall be saved Matt. 24:13

committing suicide is not enduring to the end.

keep pressing on.

I wouldn't want to explain it To God. Suicide is like burying your talent and you know what happened to the one who did that.

Also destroying what God made just for you, a body.

Not to mention you would be completing Satan's work, he wants us all dead. God would not be pleased I guarantee it.

And that is an understatement. Not that you couldn't repent in the last few seconds of life but would you be sure you repented, or thought you did?

well i think u should trust in God 100%
whatever is ur problem..cant be bigger than GOD'S POWER. As Christian u should know that..if not just leave all ur problems in HIS hand
HE will show what HE can do.
God Loves U and HE has plans for ur life dont let satan destroy it by giving u suicide's thoughts.

This subject seems to come up so often. I agree suicide is a sin. But I also know that it is in some cases the result of a severe mental illness. For those that have never known this be greatful to God. We were very blessed that when my daughter became mentally ill that she did not succeed. In her case it was an illness. God protected her and I am so thankfull to him. She is treated now and doing well. I do believe it is a sin for some, But be carefull about passing judgement to quickly. This is one that belongs to Our lord Jesus to decide.
God bless, pickles

When you're really depressed look to others who are in a worse situation than you are, that usually works.

Suicide, or self murder is like any other sin. Christ's blood covers it. If a believer suicides he will barely get into heaven as if by fire.

Suicide does not automatically result in hell. Certain circumstances (eg. mental illness such as depression) can diminish his repsonsibilty for such an act which means that not all suicides are mortal sins.

This is a difficult situation, my Mother committed suicide. Is she going to hell? I don't know. Is she going to Heaven? I don't know. Only God know the heart and only God knows if she was fully sorry and repented before she died. I will leave this one up to the ultimate judge. But it is not the way to go. I am not God so I can't judge.

But if someone is thinking about this then they need serious help because this is something God does not want anyone to do. Seek some kind of Christian counseling or some kind of help. It is not worth the risk.

I ask the question, have you ever been in that state of mind? I mean REALLY?...as this stance of yours seems to be entertained by so many people. When someone gives advice or council to another is it not more affective if the one giving advice truly knows and understands what that person is experiencing?
I was of the same thoughts and opinion as you until I experienced it first hand and believe me, selfishness and attention have absolutely NOTHING to do with it. Some may argue that depression (and all sickness) is demonic. Medically they say it is a chemical imbalance in the brain, a shortage of Serotonin, (at least that is how it was explained to me by my GP)

Yes many people are attention seekers and usually they are the ones that are always threatening to commit suicide, but those who are in danger don't normally speak about it, they may attempt to hide the fact that inside there is turmoil and before you know it they do it much to everyones surprise. Have you never heard people who's friends/family members have committed suicide say: "It was so sudden I never realized" or "he/she seemed so happy" etc
Yes it's a lie of the devil but untill one has been there one will never truly understand.
Does that person lose their salvation?...not sure.

I totally understand what you are saying Graybeard. I have been there myself. I suffer depression but I deal with it. I do believe true depression it is a chemical imbalance. And no, I do NOT believe it is demonic in any way at all, it is just life. Depression is not demonic any more than my cancer is. Depression is real. Yes we all get depressed at times and this is not the same type of depression. People who has not had real depression just does not understand.People are going to say a lot of wrong and opinionated things about something they don't know or understand. Just let people say what they are going to say and don't worry about what they say. I have been there but I always keep Philippians 4:13 in the back of my mind. God is my strength. GBU

Actually, some people genuinely believe that others would be better off without them. I think it's very unfair to make sweeping judgements such as this.

I do not believe suicide will send anyone to hell, and like maddog said, it is unfair to say that it is selfish.

it is giving up, it is loosing oneself, it is failing to continue living yes, but it is not selfish...

whats selfish is (rich) people spending more time working than with their kids
people choosing pleasure over God or friends
putting others down to feel good

suicide might hurt those near the person, and ruin more lives, but I do not think it will condemn to hell... I don't think people who commit suicide think clearly anymore. Hasn't most people wanted to die at some point? ... Imagine having that feeling every day, every hour, every second.... that can't be a good way to live...
