But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Gen 2:17

Adam and Eve didn't die the day that they ate the fruit. Either God lied or he is not all knowing. I'm sorry for being blasphemous, but I believe it should be addressed.

...God didn't lie. The first death that Adam and Eve have experienced was not that of the body, but that of losing the communion with God. Unless you are in communion with God (the life-giver), you are dead; spiritually dead.

Adam and Eve did die in that very day. Perceive ye not they were made perfect and immortal? Therefore in the day they broke the only commandment to not die, they began to die and thus it was appointed to man to die at least once. From the moment you were born into this evil world ye began to die for the sins of this world. Thus man must be born again that he should not die.

Well I was always thought this..

One day to God is a thousand years to us (I believe)

So when God said they would die they did. They died a spiritual death in our day.
But if you read they only lived to be 800 and something years old..so in a way the died a physical death aswell.

But that's just my opinion.
I could be wrong though.

Prestley:

1 Corinthians 15.22 says:

'As in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive'.

Death passes on all who are in Adam because of original sin.

All in Christ are made alive in Him. The believer is now under new jurisdiction! :)

Blessings.

Why didn't he specify that. Was he at a loss for words?

Begininning to die that day, and dieing that day are two different things. He didn't say you will start to die, he said you will surely die. Did God have a lack of communication skills?

Why is it people think they know more than God and that scripture must conform to one's understanding of reality?

Ephesians 2.1 says that unbelievers are dead in trespasses and sins.

Adam died spiritually on that day; eventually he died physically also. The Lord Jesus was sinless, so He was not subject to death; but He willingly laid down His life for sinners.

Can ye not realize when Adam lost immortality he died?

Could God not say exactly what He meant to say? Your speculating what God meant to say was "you will start to die that day spiritually" as if he lacked the right words.

It is in plain words..."of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, """THOU""" shalt not eat of it: for in the day that """THOU""" eatest thereof """THOU""" shalt surely die. The name Adam or the name Eve have not even came up in scripture when this command surfaces.

Yup! This is true. :) but I was just getting at the fact God didn't lie.
They died a spiritual death then a physical death.
It was just a different time frame. Since Gods days are different from ours.

2 Peter 3:8 KJV

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

God speaks so that those who know Him understand. Adam began to die physically and he died Spiritually the same day he sinned. Read all of the curse that sin brought upon man and you will begin to see what God said and why He said it in that fashion.

For the cause of Christ
