'A man is only as good as his word.' Or 'A man's word is his bond.'

So I'm going to type this out as fast as I can and then place my cell in time-out!! Lol!

Recently I heard an intriguing story that reflected upon myself. Without too much detail; two people were looking into purchasing land adjacent to their own for more property so cattle may graze. They met with the owner and they agreed in a fair price; shaking hands. Another farmer heard of the pending land sale and offered a higher price. Now the original buyers have no clue what's happening; and it appears a bidding war has begun.

This has made me think upon; a man's and woman's word.

Numbers 30:2
A man who makes a vow to the Lord or makes a pledge under oath must never break it. He must do exactly what he said he would do.

Proverbs 2:20-22
Follow the steps of good men instead, and stay on the paths of the righteous. For only the Godly will live in the land, and those with integrity will remain in it.

Matt 21:28 Parable of the Two Sons (Keeping your word.)
But what do you think about this? A man with two sons told the older boy, 'Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.' The son answered 'No, I won't go,' but later he changed his mind and went anyway. Then the father told the other son, 'You go,' and he said 'Yes sir, I will.' But he didn't go.

This has been a reflection upon my own life!! Meeting up with someone in town, exchanging numbers and telling them I will meet them for coffee but never do. Or promising my daughter to paint her bedroom wall a different colour and three years later; oooops!!! (It appears to still be the same colour! Lol!)

So how do you all feel about contracts, handshakes, or being completely honest in all aspects?

Now you need two pieces of ID and a credit card before being accepted at your word...

Lol!! Isn't that the truth! Trusting others has become a thing of the past, honouring someone's word...I can't remember where the scripture is Book of Ruth I believe; where they would give a sandal off their foot for property. Maybe if that transaction happened today?? People walking around with one shoe and one blue foot in the winter! That definitely seems to be a difference between OT and NT.
