I'm a new christian and was reading the bible, when I came across this passage: In the New Testament (Mark 3:29) in which Jesus says "But he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation"

What exactly is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit? I'm pretty sure I have done that... I have rejected God in the past and said I hated Him years ago, when I was mad... :(. I have also thought against the bible, thinking things from there might of not happened that way and also thought that God was not all loving... I had an awful way of thinking, and a hate filled heart years ago... I had only read a small part of the bible and did not really understand it or know God's love for us..I was turning all of that around and was trying to build a relationship with God, until I saw Mark 3:29 today... I feel terrible and I have asked for forgiveness for all of that before, but according to Mark 3:29, I will never be forgiven? :(

You are forgiven and its thrown into the sea. God does not remember it any more. So forgive yourself. You are washed clean by the blood of Jesus.

If you were to denie God at death or just never believe in him when you died then you would be lost.

Beloved,
luke12:10-12 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven. 11 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: 12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.

Hebrews6:4-6 4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

Jesus specifically states that "all sins" can be forgiven through His blood – including any blasphemies against either Himself or anyone else. But the one sin that He and His Father will not forgive is a direct blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Here is the verse:
"Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation" – because they said, "He has an unclean spirit." (Mark 3:28-30)

Then Jesus once more comes down with the hammer and says:
"Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come." (Matthew 12:31-32)

Without question, this statement being made by Jesus is one of the most dire and extreme warnings He has ever given. He is literally telling us that there is one specific sin that will never, ever be forgiven – and that one sin is a direct, blasphemous attack against the Holy Spirit Himself.

Jesus even says that you can speak a word directly against Him and that you can still be forgiven – but He will not forgive anyone who will directly attack the Holy Spirit.
So what exactly is Jesus meaning when He talks about someone who is directly "blaspheming" the Holy Spirit?

The word "blaspheme" in Webster’s dictionary means to "speak irreverently or profanely of or to God, to curse or revile." Another part of their definition says "any remark or action held to be irreverent or disrespectful."

Many of the different Bible Dictionaries describe blasphemy as "insulting, cursing, lacking reverence for God, claiming deity."
Remember, God is perfect – we are not!

Another Thing I want to say Our Father has a 7,000 year Plan!! 6,000 years he has gave to Satan.

When Jesus Comes back on 777 he will teach the true Doctrine if Christianty for a Thousand years to All that have been Born of Flesh,Water,Woman.

The Fallen Angels and Satan re-fused this "to be Born of Flesh, Water,Woman" After this Thousand Year teaching
When Satan is turned back out on us is when this Unpardonable Sin Happens not now Son, "But Pray to our Father and Stay clear from the unpardonable Sin...

Why Jesus would say this is the key to understanding what speaking a word against the Holy Spirit means. The gift of His Spirit, living in our hearts, is an almost unbelievable occurence, because in this gift we have God Himself coming to live in sinful flesh, our bodies, to commune with our hearts. And in truth, it is grace from God, because it is His drawing near to us, actually becoming part of us, to make us part of Himself. As the scripture says, we are seated in the heavenly place with Jesus in God. This is a very intimate relationship between us and our Father, the basis for all that comes after in our growth into Jesus. Speaking against this is unforgivable. By the Spirit coming to live in us we have our birth into the family of God, and we become His children.

From your repentant spirit, I would say you definitely have not blasphemed the Holy Spirit. To commit the unpardonable offense, one has to fully know and understand what he is doing, to desire pure evil for evil's sake. I'm sure it happens, because Jesus mentions it, but I think it's rare because most of us are under the influence of natural or spiritual elements when we fall short.

I love that the Bible includes the missteps of the great men of God, like Peter and Paul. Peter was full of bravado, but when the crunch came he deserted the Lord. But the Lord forgave him and received him back with open arms. He even met privately with him after the resurrection, I believe to minister to him in a deep personal healing way. And then on the shore, He drew three affirmations out of Peter - one for each failing - that strengthened and prepared him for the challenges ahead.

Paul by his own admission was a blasphemer, yet God saw deeper than his behavior, to the motivations of his heart, and called him and used him mightily.

Trust in your God. He came to you to deliver, not to condemn (Jn 3.17). Your heart is tender to Him, and that's a sign that He is indeed with you, and you with Him. Let your sorrow be turned to gratefulness for the extent of His unfathomable mercy and grace, and to joyful devotion (the joy of the Lord is our strength). Don't let the devil use your past to neutralize your future in God. God called you to work through you, to do great things (eph 2.8-9). Nothing you have done or will do can change that purpose.

At the risk of running on, the following is an excerpt from a piece I wrote about dealing with past mistakes and failures. Be blessed,

p.

Let me say that if you are racked by regret or remorse regarding past decisions, now is the time to put them to rest for good. Paul told the men of Athens: “The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30). He explained to Timothy, regarding his own violent past: “Formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief” ( 1Tim 1:13). Peppered throughout the New Testament (and even the Old) there is plenty of support for Paul’s assertion that ignorance can mitigate culpability:

Sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law. -Rom 5:13

These verses and others teach that God is categorically unconcerned with the failings of our past, except as He can use them to help build us and others up now. It is absolutely crucial that we stand on the Word in this matter, because satan wants to devour us. We do not confess our sins in the manner of pagans who scourge their backs – as if they could even begin to pay for their own sins or prove their worthiness of God’s forgiveness. It took the holy Blood of the Son of God to redeem Creation. We could never earn our own salvation. We confess in simple childlike faith that He will forgive and cleanse, just as according to 1Jn 1.9.

I would think the following verse would erase any fears you have:

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 RSV

Also note that jesus said, "Who ever rejects the son of man will be forgiven, but rejection of the holyspirit will not be forgiven, neither in those days or the days to come.

He means if you live your life & reject GOD. You are condemned.

BUT you did not reject christ. & You are still alive.

Don't mis-interpret that.. ppl go on youtube & say "I DENY THE HOLY SPIRIT" & they think they are condemned.. that is not what it means.

As solomon says: Better is a living dog, then a dead lion.

Just trust Jesus, & repent from sins. follow him & be IN his will. Read his word daily.

You are certainly not condemned.

Read john 3:16 & remember the bible has no contradictions.

to the person who wrote this thread I understand where you are coming from. I find myself continually remembering a sin in my past where I was affiliated with a gang called the gangster disciples. they used the six point star as a sign, the name "disciples" for years I went on thinking that I've blasphemed the holy spirit. Things in my life have definately changed and i dont associate with them anymore. none the less I still struggle with sins. I find myself constantly reminded of this and each time it comes to mind I get bad feeling. I once had a demonic dream (or so I think) of a headless figure in a chair then It appeared to be jesus, I asked him to forgive me, reached for his hand and he yelled loudly I DONT KNOW YOU ANYMORE, then everything went black. ever since then. I've been floating all around, definately not where I should be to say the least. Where-ever I go, or whatever I do it lurks in the back of my mind..

That's not Jesus. That's a lie of the devil to deceive you. The only reason it is working is because:

A. You don't know how greatly God loves you
and
B. You don't understand spiritual warfare

I attended Victory Outreach in Los Angeles for four years and rolled with hundreds of hardcore gangsters. I met an ex-devil worshipping gangster one night walking through a hood with an ex-heroin addict from WhiteFence who used to collect taxes for the eme and even though this guy was backslidden it was obvious Jesus was calling him back in grace and forgiveness. He did some real good that night with a member of the Dead Ends that was really really lost. It was all Jesus that night with these born again gangsters. The enemy uses tactics like your dream or a bad word from someone to deceive you. He IS A LIAR! I can tell you from my extensive experience that God loves you VERY much and the only thing holding you down is the enemy and your need to grow into the fullness of Christ. Get yourself down to a spirit filled congregation and get into a life recovery program like Celebrate Recovery. Don't listen to the devil's lies and remain out of consistent fellowship with spirit filled Christians.

yeh i wouldnt let it take root in you bro, when we are forgiven God blots the sin out from as far as east is to west, He remembers no more.Devil is the accuser, comes as an angel of light even to deceive us and take us from our place of rest in Jesus. Renew your mind to the mind of Christ, Gods Word says, Gods Word stands. If you take it to God about your past He would be sitting there saying "what are you talking about, your a forgiven creation, i dont know who or what or when this happened" cause He remembers no more. Thats love bro, Gods love. Romans 8:1:)

Moon,

One of the roles of the Holy Spirit to touch the hearts of the lost and to draw them to the gospel. To "blaspheme" the Holy Spirit is to reject Him when He touches your heart. If you die with that rejection on your heart, then there is no forgiveness for you. Fortunately God always gives us more opportunities ro receive His love in Christ.

If you have accepted Christ, then you have not blasphemed the Holy Spirit and your sins (all your sins) have been forgiven.

In Christ,
John

It is possible to sin against God’s holy spirit.

The first-century Jewish religious leaders saw God’s spirit at work in Jesus as he performed miracles that honored God and attributed this power to Satan. They were more concerned about their positions and power and would keep them at any cost. It was a deliberate and willful sin. Jesus made this statement on blasphemy:

Matthew 12:31 says: “And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the spirit will not be forgiven.”

We are forgiven of sins through Jesus’ ransom sacrifice, but continued willful, unrepentant and deliberate sins against the holy spirit, blasphemy, can result in sins not being forgiven.

Hebrews 10:26, 27 says: “If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of the raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.”

God is the final Judge of wrongdoers. We all must render an account to him, and he always does what is right. He will determine if we have committed an unforgivable sin, and he can withdraw his spirit from us.
