A question. When Jesus sent His disciples out and gave them power (Luke 9:1) was He giving them the Holy Spirit then or did they not receive the Holy Spirit until pentacost? Where they saved already? I know, that's 2 questions. Thanks for any responses.

Miracles are worked by God, who is Spirit. I'm not a theologian but Jesus had the Spirit without measure and so the Spirit was with His followers while He was on earth. I can at least take it that far...when He died though, the Spirit went, so He told them to wait for the Spirit to come. It's mysteri ous for sure!

I suppose there will be a discussion of "on" versus "living in."

That's a good question and one I've also thought about. Since Jesus said the Holy Spirit would not come until He left... AND He even said it would be GOOD when that happened., (which was a WOW moment when I saw it written in the Bible)

I believe that 'no' those who were Jesus disciples were not signed...sealed believers. They had the knowledge of the truth but they were not born again.

They cast out demons., they even healed but the were not yet born again. Judas was also doing those things., Judas was not born again.

John 7:37-39
[SUP]37 [/SUP]Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink. [SUP]38 [/SUP]He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, [SUP][a][/SUP]from within him shall flow rivers of living water.

[SUP]39 [/SUP]But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believed on him were to receive: [SUP][b][/SUP]for the Spirit was not yet given; because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Acts 1:5-8 [SUP]5 [/SUP]for John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized [SUP][a][/SUP]in the Holy Spirit not many days hence.[SUP]
6 [/SUP]They therefore, when they were come together, asked him, saying, Lord, dost thou at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?

[SUP]7 [/SUP]And he said unto them, It is not for you to know times or seasons, which the Father hath [SUP][b][/SUP]set within his own authority. [SUP]8 [/SUP]But ye shall receive power, when the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Question 1 : No ; Question 2: No and the same with the 70 he sent. He gave them for this Special Time the Power, but not the Holy Spirit.

they had the Word of God Jesus is the word . He Jesus gave them authority to do when HE sent them out it was in the Name of Jesus that they did those works . The Holy Spirit was with them , just not in them as John 14 & 16 says , Jesus speaking.

They were saved before Pentecost. They received the Holy Spirit in John 20. Pentecost as the scripture clearly states was a filling with power.

Far too many folks handle the word of God carelessly. Treating Holy Spirit baptism and Holy Spirit filling as interchangeable terms.

When Jesus sent out the 12 and also the 70 disciples, he did give them power to do miracles, and they were justified by grace through faith (other than Judas, who was never saved). However He gave them the gift of the Holy Spirit after His resurrection, and He gave them the fulness of the Spirit on the day of Pentecost. That was when they received the power of the Holy Spirit not only to preach the Word with power, but also do signs, wonders, and miracles.

Jesus had a church with the disciples.. the first NT church before pentecost. In Matthew 18 we see the process for resolving sin issues in a church. Jesus says to 'tell it to the church' regarding the issues.

This is before pentecost.

People were saved by grace thru faith in Christ before pentecost.

At pentecost..the already established church was empowered. The Holy Spirit was now present in the midst of the local assembly at Pentecost. The Comforter sent.

Before pentecost.. Jesus and His disciples were doing NT church activities and ordinances

They all were believers. He gave them power, which meant he gave them the authority to perform miracles. Pentacost is further down the road after Jesus left. That is the point where they received the holy ghost., just after he departed. Acts' 1; 4-8 tells you what happened.

God gave the disciples the Spirit when the 72 were sent. Jesus gave the disciples the Spirit when He breathed on them at the end of John.
The Father sends the Spirit in Jesus' name. That's in John 16.
