Not terribly long ago I used my computer to record a couple of songs I had written, using a small plastic microphone. Then I posted them on YouTube and posted a link here so you could listen to them and critique them.

Now I have gone to a recording studio and recorded a couple of songs I have written and again posted them on YouTube, hoping a few of you will critique them for me. Actually, I’m hoping you’ll say you like them, but it sounds less vain if I say I want you to critique them. Here are the links:

I’m Going to Follow Jesus:

I'm Going to Follow Jesus - YouTube

Jesus Came Down:

Jesus Came Down - YouTube

Here are the lyrics to each:

I’m Going to Follow Jesus
© 2013 Robert J. Estey

1.) Too many people are chasing after things
That won’t take them where they want to go
Too many people are missing the message
Of things they need to know

2.) Too many people are climbing up the social ladder
Not aware of what’s at the top
They ought to beware because if they get there
That ladder takes quite a drop

C-1.) (No words, first verse)

3.) I’m going to follow Jesus because what he teaches
Is going to take me where I want to go
Peace of mind is better than sunny weather
We all need to learn and grow

C-2.) Jesus loves you

4.) I’m going to follow Jesus cause in the final reaches
I will be safe as I make my way
Nothing can harm me or even alarm me
Or even make dark my day

C-3.) Jesus loves you Jesus loves you

Jesus Came Down
© 2012 Robert J. Estey

1.) Jesus came down
He came to earth he healed the sick and lame
Everywhere he went he did the same
The world had lost its way and then Jesus came down

2.) Jesus Christ died
He was put up on a cross and crucified
He wanted all mankind justified
The world had lost its way and then Jesus Christ died

C-1.) Jesus Christ came down to save us
Jesus Christ saved us with his love
All of our sins have been forgiven
God showed mercy from above

C-2.) God in heaven needs our obedience
God up above knows the way
Jesus died to give a new beginning
We must follow him every day

3.) Jesus Christ knows
Crucified but from his grave he rose
He shows the way his wisdom he bestows
The world had lost its way and then Jesus Christ rose

I'm glad to see you take this step. The reverb is good, adds a lot from the demos you sent me. I think I would have turned the bass equalization higher for your voice.

I've been playing around with Audacity and video editing software, and I think I have a way to overtrack around the world, and add the tracks to a premade video. If I had a couple female vocalists, I think we could record for each other, and exchange tracks by e-mail. We could mix a dozen tracks and make it youtube ready. That would give us instruments, mixed voices with harmony.

Thanks, Ken. You are the one who inspired me to jump into this with both feet. I haven't been able to get the others in my church to collaborate with me, so I am just going on without them. I wish I could get Christian radio stations to play these two songs.

What I noticed when I got the recordings home and listened to them was how fast I played "Jesus Came Down." It needs to be slowed down a little, perhaps.

As for your project, can you make a quality recording with Audacity?

I don't get why you post music in the bible forums and not the music forums?

Just being honest. I don't care much for the lyrics especially those in
''I'm Going to Follow Jesus''
As an example the first two lines...

''Too many people are chasing after things
That won’t take them where they want to go''

better...

''Too many people are chasing after things
That won’t take them where they ought to go''

I would need to try. The buttons are there. Probably good enough for youtube, but not for CD. A lot depends on how you view the future of music publishing.

Do you mean you didn't listen critically during studio mixdown?

It's a button you can control during mixdown. It makes your voice sound more bassy. Open a track in audacity, and try effects/bass boost or equalizer, or under plugins, lowpass filter settings or DJ equalizer. It works like the bass control on your stereo, only more options. See if you like your voice better that way. I assume the guitar was miked separately? You do not want the bass changes to your voice affecting the guitar.

Because I figure ten times as many people will read it in the Bible forum as will read it in the music forum. I wanted to speak to the Christian Chat community, not just a handful of people.

Actually, he had me do guitar and vocals separately. I wanted to do them simultaneously, but he thought it better that I not.

Perhaps you would care to listen to one of the songs, "I'm Going to Follow Jesus" is my favorite, and comment.

Hi Res...funny, I was just thinking about you before I saw your thread, I did not know you where musical and that is great.
My honest opinion.....great for Evening service or around the campfire but commercially or for radio I would say a bit more voice training maybe....just my opinion, perhaps I've been watching to much American Idols lately..lol.

Sooooo let me get this straight. They all want to be in heaven so they are chasing after drugs, sex, philosophies, pleasures, religions, idols etc.?

Thanks for the input. I thought the voice was okay. I thought it was my guitar that was awful.
